The hotel is centrally located, easy walk to public transportation. It's clean and comfortable but nothing special. The staff, with the exception of one gentleman working mornings, seem to be a bit self-important; that included housekeeping. Amenities were less than several less expensive rooms we stayed in on this trip. There is no microwave, no refrigerators, one cup of coffee per person, no breakfast unless you wanted to eat at the restaurant which was equally self important with $14 french toast. Parking was expensive for hotel guests at about $35/night. It wasn't our favorite. Collapse
Second Home in Toronto

This hotel is so comfortable and the staff so welcoming - I now call it my second home when visiting Toronto. Location is great too!!! You can walk over to Yonge St and take in the city vibe, or just hang in the park across the way!

On July 30th, 2017, I booked a room on your website for a one night stay at the Ramada Plaza Toronto Downtown hotel. I received an email confirmation with the number noted above. I was driving from Windsor, ON to Toronto with my son who attends University of Toronto to search for accommodations for his second year of university. We arrived late on Monday night, July 31st, around 11:30pm after driving in from Windsor. My son waited in the car while I went to check in and ask where the underground parking was located. There was a woman working at the check in desk whose name I unfortunately did not catch. I gave her my name and said that I had already made a reservation for the night. She typed in my name and then told me that my room had been cancelled. I was surprised and shocked. She said that because I had used a debit visa to for my booking, the room had been cancelled and that the hotel was now completely booked. I asked her why I wasn't notified that my room had been cancelled but she didn't give me an answer. She said that Ramada only accepts credit cards, not debit cards. If you don't accept debit cards, then why was my card accepted on the website for the reservation? I told her I found it odd that I had not received any type of notification by email or phone that my reservation had been cancelled. She didn't seem to care and said there was nothing she could do. Not once did she show any concern or offer any type of apology on the part of the company for the lack of notification. What type of hotel chain does this? Most train their employees to be courteous and helpful to their customers and to go out of their way to make them feel welcome. Perhaps this one missed the training? At 11:30 pm, I was in a big city with no hotel room. I expressed my disappointment in her lack of concern and failure to offer any sort of an apology and her eyes opened wide and she gave me a look of disgust. How could I expect her to offer any type of apology? No where on the website does it say that debit visa is not accepted. I use it to purchase items over the internet that accept visa. I would have been more than happy to offer my actual visa card upon check in. I can somewhat understand if that is not your policy but is it your policy to cancel your guests room and not notify them??? She did offer to call other hotels in the area but I think it was more of an attempt to get rid of me. I checked the internet and found that the Courtyard by Marriott had rooms available and I went there instead. Once I checked in and got to my room, I went to the Ramada website and checked for rooms at the Toronto Plaza Downtown. Low and behold, they had rooms available for the night! Not a room with 2 queens that I had reserved but they had King rooms and others available. Why did she tell me the hotel was completely booked???? She could have offered me a different room. I was very upset. I'm hoping someone at your company can at least offer me an explanation. Collapse

Great stay. Good rooms with comfortable beds. Very clean. Shout out to their housekeeping staff. Lovely downtown, easy to get to places. Staff was good and helpful. Only drawback they do not have breakfast. Breakfast would be nice.
