Initial impressions on arrival at this hotel are fairly good - everything looks clean and fairly modern, the reception staff are friendly and offer a reasonably warm welcome. But you don't have to dig far below the surface to find what's wrong with this place. The room was shoddy. The "king size" bed was actually just two singles pushed together. The mattresses were soft and gave a very poor night's sleep. I found a hair on the sheet. There was a patch of what looked like blood on one of the walls. One of the bedside lamps didn't work. The room was extremely cold and the small heater provided gave off a bad smell when switched on. The shower room was extremely basic, the toilet flush button looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly, and the shower provides nothing more than a trickle. Very disappointing. One of the most upsetting things about the room is the "mystery" locked door - which, it turns out, leads to the room next door. I found this out when I was awoken by the couple next door enjoying some time together a little too noisily. More generally, the hotel was noisy, with hen night groups screeching and singing loudly in the corridors and parading around semi-naked in the small hours. The location is OK, near the Gateshead Millennium Bridge with good access to Newcastle, and a large shopping centre with Tesco, Greggs, Boots, Costa 10 minutes walk away on the Gateshead side. But aside from the location, don't trust the decent first impression given by this hotel. It really isn't a great place to stay, and doesn't provide good value for money. Collapse

We stayed here with a tiny to whilst visiting Newcastle for a wedding. The location for us was fab. Only a short taxi ride to the city centre. We found the hotel very easily with the sat nav. Reception and staff very pleasant. We had a double room plus cot bed (which we easily reserved prior to Arrival). No cot bed bedding provided though but we brought our own. The room was very clean and large (with a sofa bed, TV, dressing table and large walk in shower. Bed was comfy (but mattes pretty soft so rolled into middle a lot! ) We were on the top floor and had zero trouble with noise (a lot of reviews had noise trouble). We also stayed on a Friday night so was grateful for the peace. The main downside was the room was quite cold. We had the heater on full blast all night and it still felt chilly. Fab accommodation for the cheap price. Would stay again! Collapse

Really disappointed with this Ramada Encore. Have stayed in several other Ramada Hotels before and the low standards of this hotel shocked me for such a well known chain. Room very basic and unsure how well cleaned it was as we found a full sandwich sitting on the window sill after we checked in. The beds all need replaced...springs gone, which resulted in 3 nights poor sleep. I feel that for things to improve change will need to come from the management as the staff we came across all seemed like being there was an effort, even at the reception. The person in charge of house keeping should be inspecting standards before guests check into the rooms! Will never be back! Not worth the money! Collapse

Hotel is a 3* & I would say this a fair rating. We arrived early for check in on a saturday but was no problem getting the room which was a good start. Nice reception area & what looked to be a nice bar & restaurant although we never used them. We were allocated a room on 5th floor, room was a good size & very clean. Bathroom nice only downside was shower was pretty rubbish. Location is a 5 minute walk to millenium bridge which will take you on to the quayside. For what we paid I was very happy with it & would use the hotel again. Collapse
