Arriving exhausted late in the day, I was behind a group of half a dozen Scandinavian men checking in for some kind of conference. It was beyond frustrating to have to wait 15 minutes to register and go into my room because the front desk clerk was tasked with pulling all six of them a draft beer. My room was on the ground floor, and while nice felt a bit vulnerable. Breakfast was sufficient for a vegan but nothing worth writing about. However, here’s something I found weird… The walls up and down every hall are filled with the same picture. The same is true in the lobby. The questions below ask if this resort caters to families. While it may cater to families, it is NOT a resort. Collapse

We checked in for a night to take in the sights of Cambridge and move on to Duxford the next day. The room was clean, comfortable and had a really good shower! It was also very quiet despite it being situated so close to busy roads - also, we were at the side of the hotel, so that probably helped. Definately recommend. Collapse

The staff are the real plus-factor at this busy hotel. The team is a small one, so it is vital that they pull together and support one another, and they do! That has been vital during this busy Summer, especially at weekends. Manager Aaron and senior receptionist Juliet are both highly experienced, and they set the friendly and helpful tone that distinguishes this hotel from the run-of-the-mill. However, I'd like to give a special mention - and personal thanks - to Stefan, the youngest member of the team who, despite his youth, is a HUGE asset: calm, unfailingly polite, and ready to help his guests far beyond the call of duty even when - as today, a Bank Holiday - he is alone at the Reception desk. But what of the hotel itself? Well, it is small - just 81 rooms, I think - but they are comfortable, with plenty of drawer and wardrobe space (in my experience, that is not always the case in modestly-priced hotels!), the little touches like a hospitality tray, irons and hairdryers in each room, and a small but reasonably-equipped fitness room. At least some of the rooms overlook a very attractive quadrangle-garden, with plenty of wildlife. That was a very welcome surprise to me when I first arrived, because the hotel is situated in a busy service area beside the A14. On the garden side of the hotel, the rooms are also very quiet - again a welcome bonus! I suppose what I'm trying to say is that no-one need be too worried about the service-station location, because it honestly isn't a problem which is likely to compromise anyone's sleep. The only thing to point out is that the hotel is about 7 miles from Cambridge itself, so a car is essential. On the other hand, travellers who need a quick getaway in the morning, are very close to the M11 and A11 motorways, with none of the notorious rush-hour traffic jams which are such a headache in Cambridge proper. And for anyone needing to work, it's worth mentioning that although the hotel doesn't currently have its own designated office or meeting accommodation for guests, these are both provided at the excellent Regus business centre next door. The hotel has its own restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, Breakfast is a generous all-you-can-eat offering of generally appetizing hot and cold food, including marvelous croissants, a good selection of charcuterie, and refreshing water-melon and other fresh fruits. It's a bargain, and served between a generously long 6.30 - 10am time-spread. It's even better value for families cos children eat for free. However,it is in the evening that the restaurant comes alive, when candles, fresh flowers, beautifully starched napkins make it a far more relaxing and visually appealing place to eat than the offerings in the fast-food outlets of the services area next door. Prices are mid-range: for example, steaks at £15.95, usually excellent, cooked to order, of course, and well-presented (see my photos). The wine-list is small, a tad unimaginative perhaps, but adequate. All in all, I have no hesitation in recommending this modest, very friendly hotel! Collapse
