Decent choice outside of city centre

I would rate this a three-star as it is an average hotel, but that seems like a negative grade on Trip Advisor these days, and this is a decent option for the price. The staff here is great. Despite the name, this is not the centre of the city; it is on the edge of Rembrandt pars near mecatorplein south of the city center. It is an easy tram away from central station or dam square, but it is not walking distance. Basic clean rooms. Water is hot and pressure is good. The breakfast is plentiful with good choices, but can be chaotic. The 17 bar and restaurant is a lovely spot with nice views and worth going to for a drink or a bite. Collapse

I booked ramada apollo for my partners 25th birthday, I emailed beforehand asking about birthday balloons ect in the room and was informed of a package which included prosecco and breakfast, unfortunately the 2-3 weeks before our holiday my grandad became incredibly ill and actually passed a few days before arriving I had emailed the hotel explaining the circumstances and that I would email either I wanted the package or not but if they were not to here from me then not to put anything in the room. On arrival we had a lovely gentleman check us in I was a little bit taken a back about the 150 euros required as a deposit slightly high in my opinion, why not just take card details to use to charge people like almost every other hotels do? Anyway the receptionist said he had a lovely room for us so when we went upstairs we walked into an upgraded room, balloons, cake, prosecco the lot which was great but instantly I worried as that meant they put the 99 Euro package on which I hadn't actually confirmed that I wanted which was purely a mistake on their part. The following morning we decided to have the breakfast before discussing with reception about the muck up the reason we did this was we want to 1 - ensure we got the most out of the package incase they didn't refund us and 2 - we were happy to pay for breakfast anyway. So after this we go to reception the lovely girl gets a manager and he was so incredibly rude!!! I have worked in many hotels like this one and it doesn't surprise me that the management seemed very obnoxious. He constantly told us "we can't refund you for something you've used" to which I replied I was happy to pay for the breakfast which we had and return the unopened bottle of prosecco as we wouldn't drink it anyway as we don't drink prosecco then he made a comment about our room upgrade I had to constantly remind him that we didn't ask for the upgrade it was given to us as a mistake due to the miss understanding of the package. This entirely ruined our stay and I can't say I would be back again due to the management. This man said he would be up to the room in 5 minutes to collect the unopened bottle of prosecco and after an hour we had to phone back down, we had plans and were fed up waiting around! After being in our room for a few days I started to realise how dirty some of the room was some plugs had weeks if not months layers of dust which was disgusting! We also dined in the bar one night although the food tasted good I've got to say it's very overpriced so we decided not to go back there and there really isn't that much choice on the menu I would expect from such a hotel more options for steaks, chicken dishes etc but I found the menu very dull and boring. All in all I'm an very disappointed. Collapse

Very nice hotel, kind staff, good and rich breakfast, the better insonorisation for a room we found till now, we did not hear any noise coming from other rooms, great panorama from the 13th floor and upper
