Due to early departure from Stanstead we stayed here. It is right next door to the airport, 2 minute walk. Well appointed gym and also has a pool. Nice to burn some calories before excesses on overseas holiday. We had evening meal in the grill restaurant, a little pricy. My wife ordered sea bass, it arrived nearly 2 inches thick! Sea bass anatomy doesn't equate, she enjoyed it though - assumed it was cod. Quiet rooms despite being so close to the planes, huge comfortable beds. Breakfast was a disappointment; bacon like cardboard and fried eggs like rubber - too long in the buffet trays! Collapse

My wife and I have stayed here twice and would definitely do so again Very convenient for Stanstead Airport- have used the hotel's parking facilities both times - very efficient. The rooms are spacious, beds comfortable and lovely pillows. The hotel was clean & the service good. We ate in the Collage Restaurant both times and the food was very good apart from the pear dessert my wife had. TBH we've seen larger cloves of garlic than the pear my wife was dished up. We did send it back, the waitress was lovely and dealt with it all very nicely, so we didn't feel too bad for doing so. The remainder of the food was very good. We had their buffet breakfast on our previous stay which was very impressive, we just didn't have time this stay which was a shame. The only other bad point was the Wi-Fi seemed to be intermitent, which was disappointing, but all in all we wouldn't hesitate staying there again. Collapse

I was overnighting before a flight so didn't have time to check out everything. Here's what I found... Check in: Was kept waiting a bit, which isn't what you want at 10pm after a long journey. Room: Very nice, quiet and well appointed. The minibar cupboard with no minibar in it was mildly annoying. Otherwise great. Breakfast: Requiring guests to brew their own tea with loose leaves, while quaint, is just not something a hotel should be expecting of weary travellers. If it were even possible, given the site-wide absence of teapots and teaspoons. I had coffee instead, which is not offered but you have to ask for. I'll come back once you have bags. Collapse
Disappointing Stay - An overrated and too expensive a hotel with disappointing customer service

I stayed over as I couldn't get a booking at the hotel nearby where I normally stop when here on business which is usually every week. I decided I will pay more and go to what I expected to be a better hotel in terms of facilities, service and overall experience! I was completely wrong! I checked in which was ok just average.. then I went to the bar and the bar man didn't even have the courtesy to hello or address anyone by "sir" not just me but other customers were not greater either and his attitude was such that he was doing me a favour by serving me a drink, obviously not realising we the customers pay his wages!! He finally gave me a drink and instead of asking how I wanted to pay it was all attitude whilst telling me how much I owed him. Didn't even want to know if I wanted to leave the tab open by providing my room number etc just utter attitude. I ignored all that experience and decided to sit in the pretty dark candlelit lounge with my drink trying to relax.. and decide on the meal I was going to have. I was hoping this young waitress who was hovering around the bar in stead of looking out doe customers request and attention, would respond to my need to speak to her when I raised my hand to draw her attention. I waited for 20 mins before I had to stand up and seek attention. Not that she was serving or doing anything other than standing by the counter and chatting to the other staff and the bar man. What happened to customer care and service! Where was the manager and supervisors who are meant to ensure customers are looked after? Finally the waitress decided to come ask what I needed and I ordered another drink and some nibbles. I had seen a menu in. My room for the two restaurants and thought I will simply order from that menu only to be told that menu has changed and the food I saw on the menu for the restaurant in my room was effectively not available . What's the point of having a restaurant menu in the room. Waste of my time trying to decide while I was still in the room. Not what you'd expect from a hotel that rated to be a four star! I then ordered fish and chips in when I got to my room and I had to return it three times! First the chips were overlooked, then there was. Roasted lemon the second time and then the third time the chips were burned and cold! Virtually at the point of giving up I was told by someone on the other end of the phone at the food dept that I wouldn't need to pay! Well good Job as well, not hat I was there for charity but after the service I had it made sense.. still no excuse for future cock ups! This hotel is overstep and that has made them complacent and carefree about customers . Management seriously need to sort their staff out, this isn't exactly a reasonably priced hotel. They are expensive ant not really value for money! A rip off to travellers and businesspeople that use the hotel mostly. Collapse
