Defeats the purpose of an airport hotel. Horrible experience.

Spent two weeks in Portugal with our family of five. Wonderful country with great people. We didn't want to leave. UNTIL we stayed at the Radisson Blu. Then we couldn't get out fast enough. Nightmare. First of all, NO ONE books an airport hotel because they need the sound of jets passing every 3 minutes to get to sleep. You stay for a meal, a bed and a ride to the airport. What we got was hassle from the minute we got there. Our travel agent had our passports/info and booked the rooms. We only knew we had one double and one triple. We had our paperwork that showed that. What we got was a Laurel and Hardy/"Who's on first?" argument. The rude check in gal kept insisting were six people and we had two triples. I had the physical people in front of her with the paperwork but still she wanted to argue that I had one more person. Then it came out in conversation that one of the kids is 13. Just like on his passport that was used to book the room. Well, THAT was NOT going to do! He is an adult in their rules so she tried to explain the price was wrong and that we would ALL have to pay an extra 35 Euros. Not just for the room he was in but for both rooms?! He was only going to be 13 in ONE room! But she wanted an extra $200!!?? Three giggly twits were at the valet desk. Not one of them made a move to help with luggage. Their job description must have been to physically hold the desk in place bc that is all they were doing. So we got up ourselves. TV didn't work. AC was weak. Room itself was clean and nice short of the bed being, well, short. Mattress and box spring right on the floor. It was like I was back in college again! Asked same desk person if someone could look at the TV while we ate dinner at the hotel. Was begrudgingly told "(sigh) maybe". Gosh, thanks! Went to dinner. The restaurant facility was nice however we got tucked in a corner with no AC and less service. When we finally got a waiter, who showed even more hostility and disdain for his position there than the rest of the staff, I made what I thought was a simple request. After two weeks of rich travel food, my 13-year old "adult" just needed food. I asked for a bowl of plain pasta. I was firmly and rudely told "No". This confused me. There were multiple pasta dishes on the menu so I knew they had fifty cents worth of dried pasta back in the kitchen. But again I got "No. Not possible". So I asked if they could make the menu spaghetti with red sauce, chicken and olives but put the pasta in one bowl and the rest in another which they could then bring, throw out or .... but I digress. He said he'd have to check with the chef. So yes, he got his pasta and that miserable man charged us $15 for a small bowl of plain pasta. No butter. No cheese. Just a 1500% mark up. Rest of the food was good. Just terrible service. Retired to the room to sleep. AC had three settings. "Off", "On with no cool air blowing" and "On with no cool air but a really loud rattling sound". So that was uncomfortable. So I got to stay up most of the night hot and listing to planes and the people in the room next to us. Now as for the final failure of this place. The shuttle! When we checked in we were told they could take us over in the AM either ONE or FIVE hours before our flight. You can see the airport from the hotel! But their one shuttle can only take six people every half hour and it was booked. Again who would stay at an airport hotel that can't/won't shuttle?! So we asked for a taxi van at 9AM to be called/scheduled. We went down, checked in with the guys that hold the desk down and waited where they told us. But no van. Went and asked and was told "you can't get a van or cab for five". THEY NEVER SCHEDULED IT! THEY KNEW AND NEVER TOLD US!!?? "Wait outside" for a ride we NEVER scheduled!!?? Went back and they bounced us back and forth saying they would try. And yet they didn't!!! AGAIN! We ended up curb hailing two cabs for about $25 to get there. After all their jerking around we were lucky the airport was quiet and we made our flight with 30 minutes to spare. But again, what HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE people. What a TERRIBLE staff. I even looked up at the sign to see if they spelled "Radisson" with two D's and one S's but it was a REAL Radisson. A Radisson whose staff single-handedly managed to give us our only negative experience in Portugal. I can honestly say this was the SINGLE worst hotel experience I can recall. At a Radisson?! Stay at the TRYP Lisboa Aeroport Hotel. You can WALK over to airport. And I can't imagine they could treat you anything like these horrible, horrible people did. Collapse

I rang the hotel and they told me they were too busy and to catch a cab, the taxi queue was about an hour so I caught an uber which took 5 mins. The hotel is dated and the TVs is smaller than my computer. Screen at work. There are no irons in the rooms and you have to go to an ironing room on the second floor. No steam irons. I just feel this place is not great Collapse

I arrived at the hotel on a Sunday morning and, understandably, my room wasn't ready. But I stored my bags with the valet, and roamed downtown Lisbon. There was a Metro stop only a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, and that's pretty convenient. When I returned to the hotel that afternoon, my room was ready. The valet took my bags to my room and he arrived almost before I did. I found all of the staff to be pleasant and efficient. The room was clean and very nice. My only complaint would be that the TV was fairly small. The shower was also powerful, which is important to me. The breakfast buffet was good and I enjoyed it each morning I was at the hotel, especially since I didn't see any restaurant options nearby. The hotel is very close to the airport, and that's a big plus for some folks. I wish the hotel was closer to downtown so that I could walk if I wanted to. If the hotel were closer to downtown, I would give it an excellent rating rather than very good. But catching either a taxi, an Uber or the Metro was pretty easy, and taxis were often outside waiting. The hotel is a very nice option when in Lisbon. Collapse
