After attending a conference here I received a parking fine despite telephoning the hotel in advance to ask whether I needed to pay. I was told that it was complimentary for people attending my course. On arrival I did as was directed and queued to give my car registration number. On receipt of the fine I contacted the hotel at around 10am and asked to speak with the manager to complain about this. The receptionist did not put me through but said she would contact Parking Eye and upon my request agreed to send me confirmation she had done so. By late afternoon I had not received any communication so needed to contact her again. She explained that she had not managed to do it as she was dealing with several others too. The lady has also told me that it will take up to 6 weeks before I will receive confirmation of whether the fine will be waivered. This is excessive since I received the notification of the fee just 9 days after my visit to the hotel. I have never before been issued with a parking fine and no-one from the hotel has had the decency to even apologise for the hassle and worry this is causing. By the hotel's own admission this is a regular occurrence explaining that 'The normal procedure for fines is we wait until the end of a shift to send off in bulk rather than one at a time' Be warned, park at your peril!!! Welcomed by nice friendly staff, good room also shown around the gym and spa - all the staff are very friendly. For Durham centre everything is with in walking distance of the town, nice walk along the river as well, We found the breakfast service a little chaotic, there was no easy way for the staff to replenish the food and the odd way the tables and furanture had been layed out did not make it easy getting back to your table with your food, couldn't understand why we were offered coffee at the table but had to go and make tea, the water for the tea was not hot enough and the urn leaked and had to be topped up. Spend a few £s and get a lincat hot water boiler plummed in. The breakfast was a little disapointing to, poor quality sausages, boring same old fair, and the milk bottles may look good, but a good old jug would be much better. The room we had suffered from the same issue as many hotel rooms, one door between you and the hall way, which was noise was a problem for us at night. Expected better for the price. I understand its not the hotels fault if other guests make noise when going back to their rooms, but a good design and better sound proofing would have sorted that. Suggest you get the person at Radission who approves designs to say in the hotel for a few nights Collapse

My friend and I needed an early dinner, to fit in with train times. The staff were happy to open a little early, and the food was served promptly. The burgers are good quality, tasty, and served with various relishes. Our waitress, young Victoria, was delightful, and very happy to spend a little time advising us on the 'back way' to the station. The food is a bit pricey (hotel restaurants often are), but they accept a Tastecard, which makes it quite reasonable. A pleasing experience. Collapse

The positives - Junior suite was excellent and I would highly recommend it. Location is great and a 5/10 minute walk to the city center. Really friendly staff especially the breakfast team. Negatives - both mornings the hot breakfast options were like warm, plenty of choice though. Car park is a disaster and despite it being free with the suite I failed to find a parking spot on either day. What did disturb me the most was the fire alarm going off and the lack of organisation. We failed to receive any communication and then after spending 20 minutes outside we were told to wait in the lobby area and that the lifts were out of action as they were not to be used until we got the all clear. 10 minutes later returning guests to the hotel I presume from eating out jumped in the lift and went up to their rooms at which point everyone else followed suite ! No clarity on what happened or the next day or when we fed back on checking out or after feeding back online after our stay. Simple communication would have helped and put a dampener on a good first stay in Durham. Collapse
