Visited off peak in an unseasonably warm 1st week in Novembe 2016. Quinta da Marinha hotel is located about 4km outside of Cascais, attached to a golf course with nearby luxury houses and other holiday properties and complexes. What struck us was how co-operative the complexes were and everyone was so helpful and friendly. Not knowing what to expect from a golf hotel we were really happy with it. The staff were welcoming and transferred us by mini bus to our accommodation. We hadn't realised but we were staying in one of the villas about 5 mins away from the actual hotel and although it was supposedly the smallest of the villas it was ample, with a great big bed and 2 large spacious rooms on split levels. We didn't hear our neighbours at any point (and hope they did not hear us) which is always a concern when you go on a family holiday. Flat screen TVs upstairs and downstairs if that's your thing. Free wifi which allowed uninterrupted streaming on 2 iPads and an iPhone after a busy day! The villa was self catering with small kitchenette, and included fridge, coffee maker and all that would be needed if you went that route. We only ate one meal in. The main reason being the amazing breakfast buffet which was included in our rate. Breakfast was served from 7 to 10:30am in the main hotel. They offered a shuttle service but we chose to walk the gorgeous 10 min scenic walk through the onsite golf course. And the breakfast was amazing with anything you could possibly want. So we tended not to be hungry til 3pm and ate a meal out in one of the great restaurants in Cascais instead and then snacked at night. We took a trip as recommended to Jumbo supermarket in Cascais to buy a few snacks and the renowned custard cakes. However we discovered a small onsite market 10 mins away in a nearby holiday complex that equally satisfied if we needed the essentials. We ate in the hotel bar once - again the staff were lovely, food maybe a little overpriced for what it was. So would recommend eating in town outside of having snacks or the top notch breakfast. The only real downside was our hot water needed to be looked at on several occasions but it was always done so promptly. And my only "gripe" and it was more I was surprised at the lack of privacy blinds in the main bathroom and bedroom. I would've liked optional blackout blinds on both windows. The golf course itself looked lovely, not being golf enthusiasts it was a bit wasted on us but the course seemed popular and well maintained. And the walk through it from villa to hotel was a lovely way to start the day. I had seen reviews that the pool wasn't great and indeed we could see that the presence of some early paddling ducks would put some off somewhat but not sure there is a lot they can do about ducks when the pool looks out onto a fab view of the golf course! The indoor pool was small but lovely. We lucked out being off peak we didn't have to share the pool with many others and the indoor spa area also small but well looked after with great water features. It may not be as easy to navigate with a child in peak season but that aside all in all it was we nderful holiday destination hotel regardless of whether one plays golf or not. And we would certainly recommend the hotel if you fancy visiting Cascais but want to be a little bit away from the town. The hotel offered 3 transfers a day to and from Cascais train station which you could book. We walked once (approx 45mins). There are also very cheap public bus routes 405 and 415 so you dont feel too far out. Special thanks to Diego and Fatima and all the staff for helping make Cascais our best family holiday so far.
