Came for a pre- Christmas get away as we are working over the Christmas period. Arrived about 9pm- no spaces in the car park, due to the three Christmas do's on at the hotel. Took twenty minutes to find a space. The two members of staffon reception were fairly helpful. One in training and another more experienced staff member. I had to ask for information such as what time breakfast was, had to also for a second key card, which didn't work, we had to get another one later in the night. The room was very small, we were disappointed. The bathroom was tiny- no bath, the best feature was the shower, which was very good. Now the hotel itself is lovely, attractively decorated and very close to restaurants and pubs. It happened to be very busy because of the parties- to be expected. So we headed out for for a few hours to sample the local nightlife. On our return we enquired as to when room service finished- it was hard going. The staff all seem to be non-English, I didn't meet a member of staff who spoke English as their first language till we ordered room service. This is the most disappointing aspect of our stay. We ordered food, one of the items we wanted was unavailable- which was ok. The food came, was signed for. We sat down to eat, then we received a phone call from the man who delivered the food. We had to pay cash for the food, but we had had a card pre authorisation from the trainee at reception. However this grumpy member of staff was not satisfied, we had to pay cash or show him the receipt of the pre-authorisation. We asked for ketchup, he slammed the phone down on me. He came back to the room, I gave him the receipt, no apology, and I asked for the ketchup and he he said here it is aggressively. We had breakfast, it was standard fayre- the cooked breakfast was unspectacular for the price. I have stayed in many Accor hotels, this has to be the worst service I've encountered so I would not return to this hotel sadly. Collapse

The Queens Hotel is very well positioned on Imperial Square in the centre of Cheltenham. It is the best hotel in Cheltenham with a long history. As an Accor Gold Card member we were upgraded to the Imperial Suite, which was a great suite with fine views over Imperial Square. I would say the only downside of the suite was that it was difficult to get it cool enough at night. There was a wide range of cold food at breakfast and the hot food was cooked to order, rather than spending endless time under hot lights - so much better. My wife declared the porridge was some of the best she had ever tasted. The day I had an omelette it was very good. The bacon and sausage were not particularly to my taste, but that is personal preference. All told, a very good experience. Collapse

We stay regularly at this time of year. The Queen’s perhaps thinks it’s a slightly grander hotel than it is, but you can’t fault the location and it has clean, comfortable bedrooms, feather pillows and good-sized showers. This year we had a smaller bathroom (no prizes for loyalty!). The second towel and bathrobe were hidden in the wardrobe. We asked why. The answer was that it was ”the standard”. A better answer would be to put up a shelf in the bathroom so that one person didn’t have to run around the room looking for something to dry themselves with. The conservatory is much nicer now they’ve taken out a box-like structure in the middle of the room. Breakfast is cooked to order, which is much better than a hot buffet. Better yet if the ham for the eggs Benedict was warmed before serving it, or at least brought up to room temperature. But that’s nit-picking. All the staff were friendly and the service was a bit less chaotic than usual. Collapse
