We have been to this hotel several times before and always been happy with our stay. Not this time. Dining room was chaotic - frequently cups but no saucers, or tea spoons, or no dishes for desserts and minor stuff like that but the worst part of it was that a number of the dining room staff (not all) were sullen to the point of rudeness, not to mention arguing amongst themselves about who should be doing what. The waiters/waitresses seem to have absolutely no concept of food handling or food hygiene. The same staff were laying tables and clearing them. Any crockery and/or cutlery which appeared to be unused, was removed from the table and recycled for the next setting. The table would then be wiped down - any food debris was simply wiped on to the floor - using the same damp cloth that was also being used to scrape waste food into the receptacle on the island unit where both clean and dirty cutlery were kept. These island units (there are several) are caked with food debris. I happened to assist a lady who needed a high chair for her infant - and noticed that the chair was also absolutely filthy. When we arrived we were told to use section A of the dining room, which is divided into A and B, in order to avoid congestion. More often than not however, only half of the servery was operating so there was in fact a great deal of congestion at times. Typically one of the food options would run out and not be replaced, or at least it would take so long that you got fed up waiting. The food was definitely nowhere near as good as on previous visits. On previous visits we noticed that the pool area was kept spotless, being swept and hosed down every evening. Not so any more. It hasn't been cleaned for weeks if not months. In the toddler pool, there is seaweed growing on the steps and salt crystals forming on the tiles. The icing on the cake however were the cockroaches in our room. We mentioned this very discreetly to the reception staff and were told that someone would be sent up to sort the problem out. Now, I realise that establishments like this may experience problems like this, but it's how they deal with it that counts. We should have been given another room and our original room should have been fumigated. Instead their way of sorting it out was to dump a tin of fly spray in the room and leave us to deal with it. It strikes me that corners are being cut, which is maybe why the staff were so miserable - if they are expected to do twice as much work for the same pay it's hardly surprising. The cleaning staff were all smiley and happy. Collapse

Having never been to Malta as we always go to the far east we thought we would have a 10 day break to Malta as we had many friends who have been here. We booked our hotel and flights on line and got a great deal for March. Flew from Leeds Bradford and have never been to this airport it was easy to find. The hotel had mixed reviews so we decided we would give it a try . The hotel is lovely we booked for B&B and the breakfast was very good with plenty to eat . The room we had was a family room although there was only 2 of us it was plenty big enough. The hotel was sea front our room was on the 5th floor and looked over into the courtyard where they have mini golf . Staff were nice service was good and rooms very clean. Spacious bathroom too. Night is plentyful lots of bars with entertainment artists and enjoyed it very much. We visited the Aquarium which was a short walk from our hotel in Qawra. ideal for families with children and very informative. We had a trip to Valleta and enjoyed this too with plenty of shops and history. We took the bus from almost opposite our hotel and took aprox 30 to 45 minutes. All in all it was a very enjoyable Holiday. I would go back again to Malta would like to go for longer next time and perhaps tour around maybe staying in different towns. Collapse

This was a last minute bargain break so our expectations were realistic. Hotel situated on the front by the sea so pleasant aspect. Bus stop a few minutes walk making for very easy cheap and reliable transport across the island which enhanced our holiday. We had organised transport from the airport but very manageable to travel there by the public transport. We had booked half board. We arrived near lunchtime having had a very early flight and middle of the night travel from home to a slow disorganised check in managed mainly by one guy whilst the other guy spent most of his time on the phone told our rooms not ready handed a key to the luggage room and told room would be ready some time in the next 2hrs. Our room was on the 3rd floor looking over the mini golf and gardens. Room good size and had plenty of storage space, a small balcony and modern bathroom all clean and adequate. Kettle in room no complimentary tea coffee sugar etc. TV with limited English channels. A key safe in the wardrobe which you have to pay to use. No complimentary shower or hair products or tablet soap which I would expect in a 4 star hotel instead a bottle of soap similar to travel lodge or other budget hotels and shower caps replaced just once. This I found disappointing as have never needed to bring these items when staying 4 star so had none with me. Breakfast good choice and could vary your choice. Again dinner plenty of choice if you are there at the start of service 5.45 by the time we ate usually about 7pm choices could be limited frequent no salad items left one evening I had soup and dessert because both meat main meal choices I would opt for had finished and we're not replaced which was very disappointing. The weekend was especially busy with many local people staying there so the dining room was very congested and queues for the food long. The organisation of the dining room was lacking for any star rating but fell well short of 4 star most nights we had to clear and set our own table as none had been cleared also cleared tables for elderly travellers who had mobility difficulties - table clearing and setting was a daily event . Frequently no plates available. We used the indoor pool daily which is quite small for the hotel size and shallow but none the less enjoyed this facility. Overall we enjoyed our stay and should a bargain break happen again yes I would stay here but I wouldn't select this hotel if I was paying full price Collapse

Like a lot of European hotels, the decor in this one is stuck in the 80s. However, it's very clean - even the balconies are cleaned daily, including the railings. The staff can't be faulted, and the dining room staff are superb. The dining room can hold 500 people. The food is plentiful with lots of choice to cater for everyone and as it's a buffet service, it's easy to pick and choose. Obviously there will be dishes you love, and those you will avoid - it's down to personal preference. The lifts are interesting! It can take a couple of goes to reach your floor (there are 8 floors) as going up or down can be a bit random. As you're holidaying, it really doesn't matter as it's an opportunity to meet other guests. The inner courtyard boasts a mini golf course and outside seating area and the hotel's lido is just across the road with a bar, pool and sun loungers. It's set much lower than road level so you don't feel you're near the road. Bus service - buy a weekly ticket for unlimited travel. It's a must - €21 for the week for an adult. Don't be fooled by the €2 concession card. This only allows you two journeys a day - so if you have to change at Valletta or Sliema that's the 2 journeys for the day. Bugibba bus station is a 5 minute uphill walk to the bus station. If you want the Craft Village, make sure you get the 186 and not the 3x. Despite saying the latter goes there, it goes to the airport! The Aquarium is a 10 minute walk away. Get money off vouchers from the little travel shop near the hotel. If you want tobacco/cigarettes, The Vineyard shop next to the hotel is better than the cash and carry price wise. Buy from a reputable source as cheaper places often have no tax paid, which means Customs will either confiscate or require you to pay heavily. Your receipts should show that you have paid tax. One thing you will need in the hotel, is your own tea, coffee, milk and sugar in your room as these items are not provided. There is a fridge in each room. The Vineyard stocks necessary supplies at reasonable prices. Wifi is not free in the hotel, but offers a choice reasonable price options. There is a Spa and Hairdresser on site, neither of which we had time to sample. A games room, offering a pool table can be found in the reception level floor, and also on the floor is the hotel's coffee shop. Nightly entertainment is in the ballroom and is usually a local crooner. Lovely for anyone liking traditional waltz, etc. Collapse

We have just returned from a week at the Qwara Palace in Malta, This was not our first visiting having been at the Hotel a few years ago. The Hotel has had the rooms modernised since our last visit it is now a walk in shower. Rooms are clean and adequate and cleaners attended everyday. The food in the restaurant is very good, in the main, catering for English visitors, Apple Crumble and Custard roast beef chicken curry. I enjoyed every meal time. Malta is Malta and every weekend the Maltese arrive in droves at the Hotel and the bars and entertainment are busy. The cafe at the front of the Hotel is lovely and is very reasonably priced. All the staff are friendly and nothing is too much to help you with any situation that may arise. Not everybody appreciates Malta you either like it or loathe it but if you are going to try Malta the Palace is a good base. If you want to travel around the island you can find a bus stop opposite the Hotel. Collapse
