Right ..let me put the record straight. This is a beautiful hotel/complex I’ve never felt so welcome anywhere ever. The staff behind every bar/dinner service /party or just lazy pool day, are always there to offer you service. The lady on the upstairs bar knew our order within 2 days and never let us down. Top measures big smile. Say hello to her. You’ll find she’s lovely. Now the real stuff: Breakfast Cold. But there’s a micro wave so you can at least heat it back up. It’s the same old same old that you expect from any all in but they need to turn up the heat on the Bain Marie’s Don’t quite understand why they put a veg out there with an English breakfast but heyho someone must want it cos it goes. And never once saw plum tomatoes!!! Cauliflower with your bacon and eggs. Don’t get it !!! Lunch Better There’s quite a variety of erm “ stuff” It’s all bland with little taste so you need to add your own seasonings. Which there are an abundance of on the salad counter. I’m not being honest there. I found a few meals quite nice. The jacket potatoes or the pork in sauce where lovely. Good chef that day !!! Deserts. The same usual fluffy puffy filled with fake cream. Taste nice but never different. Fruit was poor if I’m honest considering it’s in a country that grows most of it. But I still enjoyed it. Evening dinner; Unfortunate that I never went for it coz I’m sure that by round three they’re on a winner. I believe they do barbecue and Chinese nights and everything. I’ve heard gossip around our pool that it’s real good. Don’t know who’s standards they’re going off but hey. Gotta be worth a try if just for the jacket potatoes. The entertainment Well: Upstairs bar: They only entertain you at weekends at this time of year. Couple are good some are shocking. I’ll never hear George Michael the same ever againbut cold play have a new sparkle Down stairs. Is mainly kids till 9 pm Mini disco We all know that one and every song that goes with it. There was some good entertainers and some not so good but its holiday life ain’t it If you want real entertainment go out and spend some cash. Barbacoa for a great night every night. If you want a chill with 80s music and a game of pool or whatever go to Eric’s cocktail bar. He’s great so’s his bar The snack bar opens at 12 and is open till 5. And it’s proper fresh cooked food. Tacos. Burgers hotdogs jackets chicken wings toasty machine it’s great. None of these rolled up sarnies All in starts at 10 am and finished at 11 pm. But you can still drink till Midnight if you’re happy to pay. The bottom sun terrace is adult only and get the sun a lllllll day with the jacuzzi pool. We loved it. Spent an entire fortnight on there. But there’s usually a rush for beds. So be early coz you never know when they’re gonna open the gate. And it can get quite windy. Finally. Apartments.... well.... we got shoved in the belly of the beast in block 4 on the lower level and our view was the hotel in front that must of had a brilliant view of the sea. Coz they sure as hell blocked ours. If you can request an apartment in any way please listen to this. Avoid block 3 and 4 unless you can get the top 4 floors.. They’re clean and tidy ( room service nearly every day bar Sunday) but you need to express this in your booking or your forever chasing lifts or trotting up stairs. I will definitely be coming back here but with a better understanding Loved my holiday the only thing that really let it down was. Our room. 4009. Steer clear x See you soon Puerto azul We’ve really enjoyed it. But take note Collapse

I must admit I was in complete panic after reading the reviews. Therefore I was expecting the worst on arrival, but luckily I was pleasantly surprised. Check in was fast and staff very helpful. We had paid extra for the superior room so can't comment on the state of other rooms. This room was amazing, clean and modern. Great to have our own room and bunks for kids sectioned off in the lounge. Nice sofa and balcony massive with table and chairs and plus 2 sunbeds which was great for an evening when kids in bed. Now for everything else, my husband calls me a snob and I'm also a veggie so I'm usually hard to please. My youngest son is the most pickiest eater on the planet. We were both happy. Breakfast great and some days English sausages, fresh pancakes and everything you would expect. Snack bar great and offers a wide range from make your own toasties to pizza and chips etc. Food is what you would expect for a Spanish all inclusive hotel, remember we are not in the Caribbean. We couldn't fault anything. Food was warm and not a cockroach in sight. Drinks selection great and ice cream pots around the pool. No they're not cornets but who cares! I've cream is ice cream. Entertainment was again what you would expect. Great and plenty of seats. One bad night of karaoke but some may love that. I don't but each their own. Entertainment team great and try to get adults involved and if you say no they don't bother. Always something to do. Pool area spotless and plenty of different depths for kids. Always got a sunbed. Location. If you read on booking it is very clear that hotel is situated on side of a cliff. Taxi only 4€ down to town. So overall brilliant. Please don't panic on reading the negative comments. You will have a great time unless you don't like kids. If so got to an adults only! Collapse

Just back from a late "Summer" holiday for 8 days. We are a middle aged couple and had a great time! To be honest, most of the comments are true - good and bad! It's all about what you are expecting from a hotel/holiday. If you think you are going to get 5 star facilities and a gourmet fine dining experience, then you will be disappointed. We had a great time overall and here are some observations to help people make your mind up before booking: The hotel is predominantly for families. The main pool area has lots of beds but they are all VERY close together. There were always beds available but finding a place to put them or to move round with the sun would be very tricky. We tried a dip in the main pool once but it was very chilly! I don't think we would have enjoyed ourselves if not for the adult sunbathing area but all the kids seemed to be having great fun and I didn't see any fights between the grown ups! The adults section was perfect for us. It was quiet and had plenty of space and sun beds. Toward the end of the week it did get a bit busier though and filled up quicker. A couple of parents did try to bring their kids in but were politely asked to leave and they did so without any hassle. Both pools are closed off overnight and cleaned in the morning. The main area opens at 8am and the adult section was opened between 8:30 - 9:00 (although the sign said 9:30) There were inevitable queues for the main pool and a smaller queue for the adult section. BOTH areas had the also inevitable towel drapers to bags the favourite sunbeds before disappearing off for breakfast or back to bed! These were ALL nationalities and ages. If you wanted total seclusion, there is a sunbathing area behind reception with plenty of beds and astroturf flooring but no pool. There was a shower to cool off and a soft drinks machine. We never saw anyone using this area! The hotel room blocks and the maze you need to work out to get to your room is not the prettiest and you will easily find peeling paint or cracks in the plaster if you go looking for them, but there was nothing to affect you enjoying your holiday. There are 11 lifts on site - half of them in pairs - so you can imagine how it would take at least 2 lifts to get from the main area to your room if you didn't want to use the stairs and ramps instead. The higher level your room was, the closer you were to the pool/reception/restaurants.The rooms were clean and comfortable with all the space you would need. Only the Junior Suites have aircon! The majority of the rooms have a fan. This would be a problem for me in the height of summer but in October the evenings are cooler and by leaving the window open we didn't even need the fan. TIP - the rooms are in blocks that are wrapped around the hillside. Blocks 1-2 are on the sunrise side and 4-6 are on the sunset side. Block 3 seems to get the sun all day. Obviously the sunrise side loses the sun in the afternoon so they cool down a lot more than the sunset side and are more comfortable at night. Not sure how well this will work in the summer months. Warning: Block 4 is behind another hotel. The blocks are all 6-7 rows high. If you get a room in block 4 at level 1 or 2 (4100 - 4299) you will have a very restricted view. We had 4210 at first and we like to sit on the balcony of an evening with a couple of drinks so this was a major disappointment. Luckily we were able to get a different room a couple of days later (for an admin fee of €30) and 2411 was perfect with unrestricted views of Puerto Rico and the marina as well as the ocean! There is no dress code in the restaurant. Again, this doesn't bother us too much but if you object to people wearing hats and caps and sports shorts and flip flops etc for dinner, then you might not enjoy it so much. The food was varied and tasty and there was usually plenty of everything even if you dined later to avoid the early rush (more queues to get in!) TIP - The sunrise restaurant is quieter but seemed to have a little bit less choice than the ocean view restaurant. The all inclusive drinks are not the best selection ever. The self serve lager ("Tropical") is perfectly good and is the same as in the bars outside the hotel. The gin & tonic or vodka & tonic and the self serve wine is ok (remember "manage your expectations") but the cocktails are out of a machine and are pretty awful. You could pay for a "real" cocktail which might have been made with proper ingredients but I didn't chance it and I didn't see anyone else chancing it either - at least I never saw any barstaff shaking any cocktail shakers about! The main bar is the pool bar which had all the kids entertainment on an evening. There is also a quiet bar up next to reception where they had the occasional live music. This was never more than half full at the most and usually only half a dozen people in it despite the hotel being full. Ideal for a quiet drink but a bit short on atmosphere. Overall the entertainment for adults was a bit disappointing. It may be different in peak periods. All the staff were helpful and efficient, even the ones not permanently smiling. Reception sorted us out with a room change as quickly and pleasantly as possible; the rooms were always very clean and the restaurant staff always kept the tables cleared. There was only ever 1 person serving at the bars but I never saw any major queues. There were plenty of self serve machines for lager and wine and soft drinks so it was only people wanting spirits going to the bar. Overall this is a good hotel catering for families and couples as long as you know what to expect beforehand. Collapse

We booked the upgraded room which is good -we’re still here at the bar watching the mini disco- It’s perfect for families. Clean with a great balcony and bunks. Maid service every other day. We did speak to a couple who had booked an older room and they weren’t as happy. The food is fine - different theme every night. Pool area can get a little crowded but you can still get a sun-bed even at about nine am. We also walked to the beach and just got a taxi back for about four Euro’s. We were worried after reading the reviews of this hotel but we cannot fault it. We’ve stayed in 2-5 star hotels and this is def a good 3 star. We cannot believe that the previous review complains that you have to bring your room number for dinner - ridiculous! It’s not that much effort to give your room number and name. It’s good plus value for money - please don’t believe the poor reviews. This is a decent place and we have had a great family holiday. Collapse
