This was our first visit to the hotel as a family of four with two children aged seven and nine and we were impressed. We were in one of the recently refurbished rooms which had more than enough space for the four of us and the view from the balcony was fantastic. The rooms are well equipped with a coffee machine, toaster, microwave, fridge and TV. The TV does only have basic channels although you can buy a TV card for a small price to get extra channels. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard every day. There was a good variety of food at the two restaurant's with different food at lunchtime and on an evening. There was fresh pancakes every morning which were a favourite with the children and also a chocolate fountain a couple of evenings. There was also meat and fish freshly prepared on an evening. There is also a pool bar with a good selection of food including but not limited to toasties, burgers, hotdogs, paella, calamari, salad, fries and wedges which is open during the day. Beer, wine and soft drinks are self service and spirits and cocktails are available from the bar, the bar was always well staffed and we never queued for a drink. The pool area was well maintained and the children enjoyed playing in all three pools, there is also an adults only area with Jacuzzi which was nice for some relaxing time away from the children! The reception staff, especially Marcus couldn't have been more helpful with providing information about things to do locally. Overall a fantastic holiday and we will certainly return. Collapse

For people who wish to travel back in time this hotel is perfect. It is stuck in the 1980's and unfortunately the rooms reflect this. We stayed in room 1508 which has a fantastic view overlooking the beach, with a great sized terrace. The room itself has a small well equipped kitchen with microwave, kettle and toaster. There is also a single sofa bed in the room. Which is uncomfortable at best. The bedroom had two single beds pushed together which were constructed from chip board with a thin mattress and a foam mattress cover which was the only saving grace. The room has no airconditioning only a standard fan. The room provides a hair dryer and a card pay TV with very few English channels. The hotel is very much geared towards the German market. The hotel is very tired and in desperate need of renovation. The food is very much as described by crocodile Dundee. You can live of it but it tastes like....... It is a buffet style centred around pork for every meal. There is a reasonable choice however only a small amount is palatable. I suggest the pool bar as this seems to provide the best food on site. The drinks are plentiful with tropical beer on tap along with poor sangria, white and red wine. There are soft drinks for the children again on a self band system. The staff are very nice and friendly and try their best to assist you in any way possible. The area is mountainous and not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The complex itself is a Warren of walkways and lifts that Lara Croft would struggle to navigate. In short, great staff and view. Would I return? Not a chance. Collapse

This is a nice hotel which has a mixture of modernised rooms and older ones - we were in an older room. The room was ok though there is no air conditioning but a fan is provided. A TV is present but you need to buy a card for it so we never bothered. The rooms were cleaned every day with the exception of two days - this was always done to a high standard. Wifi is free and is very good. The food was really good also though at times I thought there was too much pork. The staff are very helpful and very attentive. In addition to this, they are really hard working. Entertainment was also good and had some degree of variety. There is an adults only section for sunbathing which has a jacuzzi pool. This is lovely and you get some great panoramic views of the resort - breathtaking. The only downside to this part was you could only get soft drinks. The Thomas Cook representative was lovely. If travelling with Thomas Cook, you may be the last drop off so just to let you know. The hotel is at the top of the resort and it has a lot of steep hills. Great walking down but coming back up can be a struggle - taxis back are only three euro and you get dropped at the door. I would recommend a trip to Amadores Beach - it is beautiful. All in all, a great week in a great hotel. Thank you to the staff at the Servatur Puerto Azul for your care and attention. Collapse

I am currently writing this review on my last day. Stayed at the Puerto Azul from 10-17 April 2017 and went with Thomas Cook from Glasgow. Hotel is lovely and staff are really attentive. We did not have a refurbished room, but was adequate for us. However, our room, no 4405 was far to get to. However, they do have lifts. This hotel is not for people with walking difficulties. There are 710 steps down to the promenade to the right of the hotel. We walked it up and down a few times. Tiring! On the left hand side there is a hill, very steep and winding, we also walked down and up this hill several times and walked along to Amadores beach. This is a quaint little bay with a beautiful beach and shops and restaurant. There is an Adults only section in the hotel which is nice with a Jacuzzi. You can go here and relax and have some time out as there are lots of children in this complex. In the Adults only section, you can help yourself to soft drinks which is good, however no alcoholic drinks are available here. Both myself and my partner found this strange, given that this is the Adults only section. This a minor complaint really. Weather here really warm. On Sun 16 April, it got up to 33oC. There isn't any air-con in the rooms, we had a stand alone fan which actually was adequate. Food in restaurant is good, and there is always something to eat. Drinks are good also. Puerto Rico is such a beautiful place and the views from this hotel are fantastic. If you are thinking of booking this hotel, do it, it really is a lovely hotel for the most part. Go and enjoy!
