Extended my stay in Cape Town , so, I had to book another hotel for the final 3nights. Chose the Marriott Protea Victoria Junction. Initial impressions were favourable. A modern looking building , walkable to the Waterfront and the many restaurants and cafes on a Main Road and the WaterKant. I arrived in the late morning. A rather sour-faced white woman was at the reception desk. No smiles..and no help or suggestions of where I can wait. I had to wait close-to the official check-in (14.00)time before I can have my room. The first-floor corner room itself was a good size. Contemporarily decorated. There was no storage space what so ever! No drawers ..just a few hangers in a small build-in wardrobe, which also has a lap-top sized safe. Had to keep most of my clothes in my suitcase... where things soon got creased and untidy! The WIFi, is absolutely ATROCIOUS ! If you want to be properly connected, don't stay at this hotel. It is complimentary UP TO only 500MB per day( via a third party internet provider); after that, you have to pay. Signing-up for wifi usage also takes time and is an absolute pain. You would have thought it was still the 1990s! But isn't this part of the American Marriott Hotel chain??! The traffic noise in this first floor corner room is bad! If you are a light-sleeper; then hard-luck! Turning on the loud air-con unit did help mask the traffic noise with a more constant ; hence bearable , air-con noise. The bathroom is well presented. There's ONE medium sized bottle of water provided per room. No mini-bar. I thought of changing hotels. But unfortunately , I had prepaid...so had to stay. FYI, It says on the Marriott reservations form that my reservation is cancelable, up to 18.00 on the day of arrival. This is not true.. they send you an email a few days before , asking you to pre-pay or the room will not be held. With this hotel, it's one disappointment after another. Collapse

This was my first trip to South Africa. Stayed for 9 nights so long enough to form a decent impression of the hotel. In terms of location it is excellent, a simple 10 minute walk down to the waterfront and perfectly safe except late at night when it is better to take a cab. Beware the cabs range wildly in price, so be careful you are not ripped off, some are excellent value but it is hit and miss. The hotel is clean and attractive, and our room was spacious and well situated. It had good air conditioning which is a bonus and a decent shower. The hotel restaurant is rather underused and despite a rather limited menu the food is excellent. The breakfast is very good but very expensive and more expensive than an evening meal which is a little odd. The lunch menu which can be taken by the pool comes in very generous sizes, order a toastie and you will get 4 slices of bread plus chips! The evening menu is limited but the food excellent and it is a shame that the restaurant is underused in the evening. The bar is small and there is no draft beer, despite it being available in all the bars and restaurants we went to throughout the trip, but it is a minor issue. A mention for the staff, they were lovely but special mention for Chris and Gregory who were brilliant, very nice genuine young men who are a credit to the hotel so please pass on my thanks to them. Also the lady who welcomed you to breakfast was also very nice. The pool, whilst small is actually really nice and whilst there's no pool bar you can take drinks and food from the bar by the pool and staff will regularly check if you want anything. All in all this is a good hotel, one that I would recommend and in a fantastic location for many areas. Thank you for your contribution to a great holiday. Collapse

I think this is a very lovely hotel and has got a great potential if they up the game on customer service. There was no personal touch what so ever and I find most of the people working there pretty miserable and unhelpful. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed my stay at this hotel due to it's proximity to the water front and very modern and funky design. I just wished people smiled more and were genuinely happy to be working there. And what kind of housekeeping wakes you up at 8am on New Year's day? First of all I thought that on the day of your check out Reception normally informs housekeeping that the guest has vacated the room? Why would you knock on someone's door telling them you are here to clean the room? How unprofessional is that? Another incident worth mentioning was when we stored our bags after checking out. We were given the tickets for each of our bag but when we came back they couldn't allocate them. There was no communication from their end as of where the bags went. We had to be really pushy to get some answers. Apparently our bags were in some storage room but there was no key since the guy who locked the doors went somewhere else. Upon explaining it to them we need them asap else we will miss our flight they decided to do something about it. Again not a customer service you expect from that sort of hotel. Collapse

The hotel is very well located. App 10 min walk to the V&A Waterfront. There is also a free shuttle bus running once / twice a day (evening). Just make sure that they have given you the right information as there was a big misunderstanding between the guests and the reception re the hours. Rooms are quite spacious and very nice (as well as all the hotel space). It is quiet in the evening and the pool is available outside. Would definitely come back when visiting Cape Town again.
