My family visits Disneyland often. This is the first time staying at this hotel. The first thing we noticed when we entered our room was the big red stain in the carpet. We also found juice bottles in the coat closet and yogurt in the fridge from previous guests. Having said this, housekeeping did a good job in cleaning our room during our stay. All staff were pleasant and friendly. Location is great - short walk to the Disneyland entrance (about 8-10 mins) and close to stores and restaurants. My main concern, which is enough for my family not to stay here again, is the state of their mattresses and pillows. The mattress was way too soft; probably the least comfortable of all my hotel stays. The pillows were lumpy and in dire need of replacement. I appreciate the staff's efforts in trying to make our stay more comfortable - they offered us another room but the bed was the same. We were told all the beds were the same. They provided us with extra blankets to sleep on as mattress toppers but it didn't make too much of a difference. My husband has a bad back so until the mattresses (and pillows) are replaced, unfortunately, we will not be returning to this hotel. Otherwise, even though the rooms could use some updating, it would be a decent place to stay. Collapse

We decided to spend one day at Disneyland Park. The property we utilized in the past has closed down so decided to try the Portofino. The rate was good, the room very large and clean. The staff was very pleasant. This property is within walking distance to Disneyland so we were able to leave our car. On the negative side I would say it is a little dated. Time for some upgrading but we would stay again Collapse

My Mother purchased this room for my family as a gift online through booking.com. This hotel refused to use my Mother’s credit card because she wasn’t present and I almost had to cancel my entire Disneyland trip with my family because of this absurd restriction. My Mother tried to call to pay for it before and they also refused. It made no logical sense. I will never stay here again and I will be leaving terrible reviews on every website and available resource. Purchasing a hotel should not be so emotionally draining and so time consuming. Mind you, my Mother is not able to attend these type of family trips because she has a broken leg. Thanks for all the stress. Collapse

Rather than focus on the physical parameters, which many people have discussed, I want to focus more on the experience of being in this hotel and how to ensure a good match for your needs. I think this will also avoid the “black and white review” syndrome, which can create confusion. Generally, I would put this hotel in about the ame category as the Silver Cloud chain. It caters to convention and Disney travelers, though the staff is surprisingly uninformed about Disneyland beyond selling tickets for the park. At this level, you will be getting a basic hotel experience. It does have laundry facilities and they can provide the $2 in quarters for washing and drying. We travelled with another family and both of us had young children. For us, the King suite was a good value because of the separate room and bunk beds. As others have noted, Disneyland was a 15 minute walk in the morning and longer in the evening when the children were tired. We did do a break one day and let's just say it is challenging to pop in for a quick nap here. They did have a small pool and hot tub, which was a great way for the kids to take a break from all the activity. As others have noted, this hotel is noisy, so room location is key. We were next to the elevator the 1st night and it was miserable, despite having ear plugs and using a sound machine app on our tablet to block out noise. They were kind enough to move us to the middle of the top floor for the rest of the visit and it was better. However, about 6:30am, two or three times a week, there seems to be a ritual where they unload boulders into a dispsy dumpster. Fortunately, we were usually up by this time. What you will not be getting is the five star staff and the upscale amenities. Yes, the staff here was professional and pleasant but you will not get the problem-solving capacity and extra courtesies of a five star staff. So do not expect to check in even an hour early and do not expect that they can help you with a complex situation. We witnessed one staff person who would get particularly grumpy if confronted with a request. For example, the other family came later and were placed in the other building (there are two). They asked to be next to us and were refused. We knew there were open rooms because they told us this when they moved us the 2nd day. Fortunately, the microwave in the other family’s room did not work. Rather than just replace the microwave, they move the family next to us on the top floor. Kevin, the supervisor, was an amazing exception to this observation and was truly helpful If you are not traveling with children, I would not recommend this hotel. There are just too many annoyances. For example, it takes 3-5 minutes to get hot water – worse in the early morning. We really resented the waste of water. The HVAC in your room is very noisy so either set the thermostat to a low temp at night or wear ear plugs. We bought food to help defray the cost of eating the disappointingly average and expensive Disneyland food. That is how we learned the hotel has no recycling program, which is amazing for a business in both CA and near Disney. The elevator is not speedy and the bedding is only average. The roll away is particularly unpleasant. The room furnishing are clean but worn. Hopefully, this information will help you decide if this is good match for you. We will not be returning. Collapse
