The hotel is welcoming at reception, staff were pleasant and helpful. the bedroom block is a bit 1980s in decor with a very old fashioned lift and with long windowless corridors. Breakfast was fine - buffet style -bread, cheese slices, ham, hard boiled eggs, something similar to pancakes which were delicious, decent coffee, decent orange juice etc rooms are large and warm but rather dated decor - crisp clean bedlinen, bottled water in the room replenished every day, bathroom was fine, wifi was excellent Our room was overlooking a drab but quiet interior courtyard, we were glad of this as I am sure a room overlooking the street could be quite noisy because of the trams passing the real plus is the location - turn right out the front door (pass the wonderful street sculpture of people coming up through the pavement) and right at the corner and it`s a straight 10 minute walk to the Rynek, passing the Renoma shopping centre and lovely old opera house. The Polonia is good value for the money - it is not the Ritz but as a basic budget hotel it does the job, so much to see and do in Wroclaw that you won`t spend much time in the hotel anyway Collapse

This hotel was the Four Seasons Hotel before it was destoyed in 1945. After WW2, it was rebuilt. It is a short walk from the city's main railway station, and about 12 minutes walk from the heart of old Wroclaw. It is close to several tram stops, from which many parts of the city can be reached. We were given two rooms (a double and a single) overlooking the large inner courtyard. The double room was very spacious, the single quite large enough. The beds were extremely comfortable (and clean), and the attatched bathrooms clean and well-functioning. Each bathroom had its own hairdryer. The rooms did not have refrigerators. The reception staff were helpful and obliging. Most of them were fluent in English. Breakfast at the hotel's restaurant was included in the room price. Guests select what they want to eat from a good, abundant buffet supplied with both hot and cold foods, as well as hot beverages and cold fruit juices. Guests were free to eat as much as they desired. If you are a light sleeper, ask for one of the rooms overlooking the inner courtyard, rather than the street. I reccommend this hotel, which has had mixed reviews, with great enthusiasm. It is slightly old-fashioned, but a great place to stay in Wroclaw. Collapse
Awful - NO HEATING (WINTER!) + unhelpful staff.

Stayed here for two nights (30th + 31st of December) to spend NYE in Wrocław. I will start with the positive: the location of the hotel is ideal, 15 minutes walk to the main square, plenty of bus, tram and rail connections nearby also. Now on to the rest.. Firstly, if you want to park your car you have to go to the hotel first and collect a form to take to the car park attendant, this can be inconvenient as there is very limited stopping space outside the hotel as it is on a main road. Check in was pretty quick, we arrived at our room on the 3rd floor, unfortunately it was a twin room and we had booked a double, but more importantly, the heating was off and the window wide open. Bearing in mind this is Poland in the middle of winter, hardly ideal. You could literally see your breath. We went to the reception desk to inform them that our room does not have heating, we were given the key to another room (5th floor) and promised this would be "warmer". The second room was a bit larger and had two single beds pushed together. The tiny radiator under the window felt a warm on one side and the radiator in the bathroom was off completely. This was around 7pm, so we wanted to go out to dinner and expected that the radiator would warm up a bit by the time we got back. We returned to the hotel at about 11pm, the radiator in our room was still only warm (not hot) on one side and did not heat the room at all, it was quite a cold evening so did not warm up the room whatsoever. Called reception to inform them, once again, that the heating is not working (or is it just off?). We were told by the receptionist that they had some additional electric fan heaters but they have all been given out to other rooms, lovely. At this point we told her that this was completely unacceptable to have no heating in 2 rooms and that we would not be paying for that evenings stay. She said there was nothing she could do and at that time of night, there was no chance of us getting another hotel. About 20 minutes later, one of the security guards came to the door with a small electric heater in hand, as if by magic. Funnily, there was only one electric socket in the whole room, hidden behind the desk, so he had to pull it out of the way to plug it in. We went back to bed with some consolation given by the little heater. However, this was not the end! The heater would stay on for 30 second to a minute and turn itself off for 10 minutes at least, I checked if it was plugged in ok but it was just faulty. Reception did not answer the phone when we tried. So all night the heater was coming on and off every few minutes, not heating the room at all and not letting us sleep. The next morning we went to speak to reception, on our way down the couple in the room next door shared the lift with us, we asked if their heating was working, they said it was not but they were also given an electric heater. We spoke to the receptionist and explained what the situation was, asked nicely for our money back due to the dreadful service and that we would find another hotel for our last evening in Wrocław. We were told that they do not do refunds and that 'well you still stayed in the room, so you have to pay'. This response still amazes me. After some heated discussions, the receptionist said that she will change our room again and will speak to the director to see if she can arrange some form of discount for the evening before. Again, left with little choice as no refund was offered, we changed rooms for the second time, this time onto the 3rd floor. She was very confident that this was the warmest floor!? The room (336) was larger and the radiators appeared to be warmer, so we moved our stuff from the other room and went out for the day. On our return, we asked the receptionist if she had spoken to the director about the evening before. She again said that they would not offer a refund, and even if they wanted to, they could not due us booking via their website (3rd party payment). This level of service is completely awful, how can a hotel behave in this way when there is a clear and undeniable grievance, such as inoperative heating? The only option I was left with was to speak to my credit card company and make a claim against the charge for the hotel, which is being processed now and the money credited back to me. This whole situation could have been avoided, had the hotel cared about the issue and refunded our stay whilst we still had time to find another hotel for our 2nd night stay. Lastly, the decor in this hotel is pretty dire, dreary brown walls and peeling wallpaper throughout the corridors does not impart a good impression. Breakfast is served downstairs in a restaurant type setting, both mornings there were huge queues for the struggling coffee machines, which broke down twice whilst we were there. Definitely allow more time at breakfast for queuing and coffee making! All in all, a disaster. But not all was lost, Wrocław is a simply beautiful city and a great place to spend NYE, so be sure to visit, just stay elsewhere. Collapse
