Words fail to describe how terrible this hotel is...if I were given the choice to choose this hotel the zombie apocalypse or set myself on fire , I would chose : 1. Zombie apocalypse 2.the fire option every time 3. Some other option Upon arriving at the hotel after a long day on the road as part of our tour,we were pleasantly surprised to see a modern exterior and lobby not to mention a pretty nifty looking restaurant / bar of to the side (separate to the hotel but with access never the less) this is where anything positive about the hotel ended as the saying goes don't judge a book by its cover unfortunately for us we did .... After getting our key we proceeded to the 4th floor where it was as if we had been transported back in time to the late 60s / early seventies. The hotel hallway had a rather unique smell that can best be described as a combination of stale cigarette smoke (despite it being a non smoking hotel) mould and sewerage which definitely made the eyes water and triggered an instant gag reflex. Upon entering our room it was hard to contain our disappointment where the furnishings / fittings which could best be described as a theme of "poverty era cold War Russia". If the smell from the corridor were to be the appetizer for the things to come , the smell from the actual room it self would be a thanksgiving / holiday feast for the ages ! As our room smelled incredibly funky of mould / smoke and required a good two hours of the window being open (where there was a fully empty orange juice bottle full to the brim with discarded cigarette butts )to make it breathable to us provided we used our mouth and not our nose as if we did the smell would trigger our gag reflex due to the repulsive smell. Other people in our group tried to change rooms due to the stench but were told by staff that they were full but it obviously wasn't the case. The bathroom whilst clean (for this hotels standard) had a rather quaint mould patch in the bathroom which looked almost "abstract art like"....since I lack the imagination that the cleaners of this hotel had in pretending the bathroom had been cleaned , I titled the abstract mould art work as "Mr Mould". Personally I find the key to decoration is in the detail and we found it interesting how they paired the nicotine stained yellow curtains with the equally charming nicotine stained ceiling, this however was offset upon looking down at the carpet that I believe at some stage was actually white but these days looked a sad yellow/ grey ..thinking that it was a polka dot design - however on closer inspection I discovered that it was actually numerous cigarette burns in the carpet. The hotel restaurant which we frequented twice during our stay looked modern and served standard sub par hotel buffet food (the type you instantly regret eating once you had consumed it) ...at breakfast on our first day due to the number of tours staying there resembled Boxing Day / Black Friday sales. The following night we had dinner which consisted of the equivalent of canned spaghetti which was lukewarm at best and at worst I wouldn't feed to a stray dog... the second dish was apparently pork but could best be described as mystery meat which was as cut as thin as a playing card and was so tough it could be folded into a paper plane and topped off with dessert of tinned fruit which again wouldn't be out of place in Cold War era Russia. I personally fail to see how this hotel has such a high rating on trip advisor , yes it is close to a train station and technically can get anywhere relatively easy as a result , but if this is the measuring stick you can get to Russia from England via train so does that make ever hotel in England good ? Clearly the owners friends and family are the people who are voting so highly on the rating for this hotel. The only recommendation that I can offer about this hotel is that you don't go, in fact you would probably be more comfortable sleeping in the train station across the street ! Collapse

Worst service i met in my life. Impossible to ask anything. Wait 10 minutes to find a table in breakfast. Wifi doesn't work. No forks on the table, you have to find and take it. Just one thing location was good.

Stayed here for 5 nights over Christmas 2016. Excellent hotel which meets expectations for a 4* rated hotel. Clean throughout, spacious rooms and friendly staff who speak good English and good continental breakfast provided. There's also a restaurant within the hotel with good food (€15-20). To find other food options take a right outside the hotel and right again, walk down the street (Via Piave) which has many restaurants (Chinese, Indian and Italian) and Ali supermarket. -To get to the hotel from Marco Polo airport take the ATVO bus (€8, can buy a ticket from machine or ATVO counter) to Mestre bus station (hotel is just across the road). -There are no major attractions in Mestre itself but the hotel is directly opposite Mestre train station therefore an excellent location for taking trains to surrounding places. Day trips we did: -Verona and Lake Garda: can take train from Mestre to Verona, then take the bus from outside the station (Number 162 from B3) to Lazise for Lake Garda. Piazza Bra in Verona is a must see. -Treviso, Belluno and Calalzo di Caldore to see the Dolomite mountains: takes trains from Mestre to Treviso, then Treviso to Belluno, then Belluno to Calalzo di Caldore which is a beautiful town in the Dolomites. -Padova: beautiful university city, walk/tram from the station past shops and restaurants to Prato della Valle; the main square. -Trieste and Slovenia: personal favourite, train to Trieste which is a beautiful port town, take bus 42 (scenic route) from outside the station to Opicina (last stop on the bus), from there take a taxi (Alex: +39 340 3140586, taxi driver, speaks good English) to Sezana which is across the border, which is unmanned. Sezana is a small town that provides a taste of Slovenia. In Trieste make sure to see the Piazza Unita and Molo Audace. -Venice: the star attraction, there are frequent trains from Mestre. Personal highlights: Rialto bridge, San Marco's square, taking the Vaporetto to Murano General tips: -Train tickets need to be validated (put into a green box on the platform) -Bus tickets can be bought from Tabaccherias (newspaper/ciagrette shops) Collapse

We stayed in The Plaza in December and was very disappointed, it didn't live up to the expectations I had from reading other reviews. As part of the stay we selected to have a meal on one of the nights - the restaurant was freezing!! Granted it was winter but every time someone opened the door a cold breeze came down the middle of the restaurant, it was not nice at all!! The hotel is convent for those travelling by train as it is right across the road from the station. If its a romantic stay you are looking for I wouldn't recommend The Plaza. Collapse
