Stayed here for three nights after arriving by train from Florence, this hotel is also right opposite Mestre Train station, very convenient for travelling to Venice by bus or train; The Hotel has its own restaurant on ground floor serving food & drinks bar; we used the train station cafe for hot cappuccino drink as they make it very delicious & cheap. Hotel was very clean. Staff very helpful. Good breakfast. I would stay there again. Would not go out alone at night, neighborhood sketchy. Conveniently located across from train station. Loud noise from trucks in morning so you may want to close windows at night. Awesome restaurant "da Bepi" close by which was family owned and waiter spoke English perfectly and very helpful. Spicy seafood pasta was awesome. We wanted to order second course, waiter never came back and when we called him, he became upset with us for being too late. Collapse

People may warn you not to stay in Mestre for the very simple reason that it is 10 mins train distance away from the historic Venetian island. What one may however not realize is that the accommodation in the historic part of Venice is extremely overpriced and you get 1/10th of what you pay. That said, it would make sense to stay in Mestre provided that you stay right across the train station (or walkable to the train station) to ensure you can hop on to one of the many trains plying by! This was the very reason we chose to stay at the Plaza. It was a perfect stay for us (Mid-September) and we had no issues whatsoever during our stay. If you have a short time in Venice or if you are finding it difficult to choose from an overpriced accommodation in the island, give this one a chance. The rooms are neat and self-sufficient with a decent sized bath and most importantly it is just across the train station. The breakfast buffet is very good with many options to choose from (the coffee vending machine sadly had conked off). The staff was friendly at the reception and the check-in and check-out was smooth. For the price, I would definitely recommend this hotel. Collapse

Service people speak English well, cause our Italian was very limited. The beds are very comfortable. Elevators are special , mirrors galor even on the ceiling. There is a dining room right across the lobby, and don't miss the wash rooms, very modern and beautiful. The receptionist was very helpful. Only ten minutes to Venice. Very practical. Collapse

We stayed at the Hotel Plaza for two nights last June. This was the last leg of our land trip before be boarded a cruise ship departing from Venice to the Greek Islands. We were looking for clean comfortable accommodations, helpful staff, good meal options and a great location - we got it. COMFORT: Ours was a clean comfortable room. I'm fussy about bathrooms, this one was modern and CLEAN. The view wasn't magical, but that was never a consideration. STAFF: The desk staff was great. Helpful and patient (we don't speak Italian) all spoke English fluently. The front desk arranged for a car to take us and all of our luggage, there was a lot of it, to the cruise port the morning of our cruise. That was the only thing we hadn't arrange prior and figured the train from Mestre to Venice would be the plan B. The car was reasonably priced and the driver helped with the luggage - worked out very well. MEAL OPTIONS: The room came with breakfast which was fine. Many options in a clean breakfast area. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. The kitchen is open for dinner but the deli part is open through the day. We had dinner our first night and it was good and reasonably priced. LOCATION: Because I could not subject us, a sixty-something couple, to dragging luggage over Venetian bridges I began looking at Mestre, Italy. Mestre is on the main land and close (like a 10/15 min. train trip) to Venice and the other islands. Once settling on Mestre I looked for a hotel close to the train station. Two reasons for this, 1, ability to easily get to Venice from Mestre and 2, to easily get off the train we took from Rome to the hotel with all the luggage. The hotel is literally steps from the front of the train station making a taxi ride completely unnecessary. We went back and forth on the train from Mestre to Venice a few times and it always worked out well. This hotel is excellent for what it is. It isn't historic and it doesn't have a water view, but that wasn't our criteria in selecting it. If you must have a hotel in Venice proper we saw stevedores near the train station that you could hire to transport luggage and it seemed to me that there were hotels and B&B options every where on the island. However, I would hate to be wrestling with luggage and find no transport option once I got onto the island. I would also not be a fan of room without some of the more modern amenities particularly outlets to charge phones, tablets, etc. if I'm in Venice again I'd opt for a Mestre hotel without a second thought and my first choice would be the Hotel Plaza.
