I've stopped in a lot of hotels all round the canaries Gran Canaria being my fave ... But this is the first time myself and hubby have ever come away alone which I'm glad cos I would have been embarrassed to bring my adult kids here .. All I can say is a good job we're open minded .. First impressions was the lobby area outside .. street side which felt very intimidating walking past all the smokers and drinkers at night when gone off site ... Reception was ok you go past the first pool to get to your rooms first thoughts was wow it's all very cramped and on top of each other ... Room 4208 overlooked the pool ish and was ok - hairdryer was broke good job we don't need one, no bedroom window so was very sticky and hot and our electric kept cutting out with the key card for the first 10 mins every time we came back to our room which was a pain when in darkness Beds were comfy and had extra pillows which most don't ... and if you can live with the tiny ants that bite that are crawling all over your bedside cabinet and over the table and work surfaces in the kitchen then you will be fine ... didn't wanna drink my drink halfway through the night cos they had consumed my glass of water crawling everywhere but amazingly they wasn't on my bed which I'm super glad of or I wouldn't have been able to sleep in it ... The pool on the lower level is fab ... but u need to get in there for about 9.20am to out towels down or u won't get a sun bed so if you can't beat em ... join em !! The 'cola' and soft drinks in any of the all inclusive stations are horrid .. frothy and very strange I ended up living on slushes as we don't drink a lot !! We went to Siam park for the day one day and got the free bus from round the corner that was fab - well placed for aqualand - Siam park and mall and playa de las Americas only a short taxi ride but the food is a big deal to me so the canteen like dining room was terrible - one night my husband sat in front of me with 2 white rolls and 2 butter he said that was his dinner and he usually tries everything ... Defo take extra money to eat out as for a all inclusive place it's not what it's made out to be ... I won't be staying here again and think it should be downgraded to 2 stars - I have been spoilt by other 3 stars in the past and this isn't one of them ... shame really but a holiday is what u make it ... especially if you eat out !! Playa olid gets a thumbs down from me !! Collapse

This hotel is defiantly not for everyone, and especially not for those with young children, who don't smoke or drink. If you smoke you'll be happy to know that right outside the foyer where everyone needs to walk past you can smoke right next to the doors, and also in both adult pools and even the baby one, so there is no smoke free areas. For the first three nights we had no sleep, and had a lovely girl from Liverpool called Chelsea banging on our window at 9:30 which woke my baby, also at 12-5am there was NO SLEEP (I have videos from different nights to show this, and also went to complain to security different times throughout the night), we were then offered another room opposite the pool bar, but again we would of had the drunks from the pool bar keeping us up so wasn't any good, so was offered another room around the back of the hotel, which was brilliant during the day as my son was able to have his naps to make up for loss of sleep at night, but as we had stairs near out room, again the drunks would go sit on the stairs shouting, smoking (so we couldn't have windows open) and drinking, and be left with a mess by the stairs every morning, by day 5 I actually asked my rep to find me and my family a flight home, but sadly we were unable to due to no room on any of the flights. The staff did to there best, and security came out every single time, so I can't fault them, it was pure and simple low life Brits who have no respect for anyone else on holiday but themselves which is sad, as I would now class this hotel more for drunk teens rather than families. Although I only witness young teens being abusive/shouting/running around till silly o clock in the morning, another person actually complained about 12-15 year olds being sick from drinking alcohol outside his room. Which is worrying within itself, that the parents are clearly to lazy to look after their children. Again, staff were amazing, enjoyed the food - they even made the baby his own fresh meals which he loved, and it was a really nice looking hotel, just let down by the guests sadly. Collapse

I have recently visited Playa Olid and loved my first time in Tenerife! The rooms are very clean and tidy with a somewhat modern style to them. The only downside was no air conditioning however this is combatted by a fan and leaving the balcony door open. The food was very reasonable for an 'all you can eat buffet', with different food available throughout the day. The all inclusive bar went down a treat with a large range of spirits and cocktails available to 'sesh' on. The Playa Olid staff were very friendly and attentive to any demands we had. The Thomas Cook representatives (Stefan and Emily) in particular were very good and provided a great fun experience throughout our stay. Brillaint for kids who need activities during the day and even for adults that are up for a laugh. The pools were well maintained and had good opening times throughout the day (10:00 - 19:00). Coming from a extensive duty manager and lifeguard background the only suggestion I would make is that a spinal board is present on site incase of a spinal injury (not common but quite possible with the boisterous behaviour from some guests). I know you have an AED (Defibrillator) present but having spoken to staff a spinal board was not ready for use. Some people will always have mixed reviews however I can honestly say I will be returning around February time for some much needed R&R over the winter months! Also don't forget to pack plenty of Aloe Vera, the sun can be quite unforgiving if you get caught out! Collapse
