If we go to Tenerife at this time of year its as an extra holiday which has to be on a budget, usually on a self catering basis but when we looked into it Playa Olid was £100 each more than that option, taking off transfers its more like £75 each so we thought we'd give it a go. The mixed reviews gave us a slight cause for concern but I have to say this concern proved unjust. As a full bus load arrived all at once it did take a while to check in, but after that we were more than pleasantly surprised. The one bed apartment we had, which overlooked the second pool and Sky Park, was extremely spacious for the two of us, even with four it would have been perfectly acceptable, very clean and well appointed, we even had a kitchen area with hob, microwave, toaster, fridge etc. Plus it had a good sitting area, a TV with English channels and a large balcony which had plenty of room for four people to sit on. A safe is available in the room at a cost of 17 Euro's for the week, with a 5 Euro deposit, about the going rate really. Restaurant food, which seemed to be the main topic of complaint was just what you expect from any budget hotel all inclusive, they try to please everyone, we didn't eat in all the time but when we did in our opinion there was plenty of choice, the salads and hot buffet were constantly being refreshed and the hot griddle was making fresh food to order, eggs and omelettes for breakfast and fish and meat for dinner and tea, good choice of deserts with very nice cheese and biscuits. There is also a selection of hot snacks served round the pools, I think from midday to around 4-00pm. Drinks are of the local brand, not as strong as named brands but then again if people are drinking from 10-00am to 11-00pm then that's probably a good thing, again we never stopped in at night for drinks opting more to go down to the sea front and local bars. I was going to make a mention of how hard the catering and restaurant staff work but that would be wrong because all the staff we saw worked hard, a real credit the Olid. Overall very impressed with the Olid and wouldn't have any problem returning there. Although we have a couple of minor gripes, no air-con, although this didn't bother us too much as it wasn't bad at night but we can imagine it would be a problem in the summer, again this didn't bother us but we can imagine that the restaurant would be a bit small in busy periods, once we went in and had to give it 20 mins to get a table but the worst thing was...terrible coffee!! And if that is the worst thing then it can't be so bad. Collapse

My family and I are just back from a week at playa olid there was 13 of us so we decided that all inclusive would be easier. The pros. -the selection of food was good for 3 star. The breakfast was nice I felt there was something for everyone. Lunch also fine salad pasta paella etc and dinner was similar. All of us always had something to eat. -when eating in the restaurant the staff were amazing at clearing the tables really fast and they were very friendly. -there were three pools and we didn't really have any problems getting sun loungers -the rooms were fine and cleaned regularly with fresh towels -it is pretty central for bars, restaurants, short distance to the beach and around the corner for the bus stop for Siam Park The cons - there were tiny ants on all the surfaces in the rooms even though they were cleaned regularly. - The all inclusive drinks were poor it wasn't real cola or Fanta and the mojitos or any cocktails were all frozen so weren't strong ( I ordered a shot of Bacardi and used that to strengthen them) - Food can get slightly repetitive but there was something for everyone. - The hotel is on a slight hill for the younger ones it's fine but for elderly people it can be quiet difficult to walk up - There isn't any air con in the room only a ceiling fan which is not enough we hired a fan but was really loud and gave me a sore Throat and ear. - Not enough bar staff as there was always a queue for drinks at night time. I do feel that you pay for what you get and I feel it's fine for the cost. The cons are minuscule problems. Collapse

The rooms are quite good with a great shower, but are lacking air conditioning, (or at least an option to upgrade/hire). The waiters in the restaurant and main bars are friendly, however the poolside servers really do not want to be there and cant help show this if you ask for them for Food. The food in general is a 3, and the hotel drinks other than the beer are a 2. Cockroaches in room is slightly understandable and cannot always be helped by the hotel, but not in the restaurant, especially walking around close to the food! Some of the entertainment nights are great including the hypnotist. Collapse

Stayed at Playa Olid with my partner on an all inclusive basis for 10 nights arriving at the end of October. Great first impressions as we waited in a long queue to get our room key. A member of staff worked their way along the queue with cold drinks, which I thought was a nice touch. Very friendly welcome and they seemed to work quickly through the queue of new arrivals. We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was large, modern and clean. It had everything you would need for a stay on an all inclusive basis. The only negative - there isn't any aircon. We hired a fan to get us through, but aircon would have greatly helped as the rooms do get very stuffy. There is one block on the resort (the suites) that do have aircon but were fully booked up when we booked our holiday. We had a wander around the complex the next morning and although it felt like a bit of a maze to start with, but you soon worked it out. There are two pool areas and a third children's pool. Didn't use the pool by reception as it got busy quite quickly and only half the sunbeds actually saw any sun. We opted for a couple of days at the lower pool. Much nicer atmosphere and got the sun most of the day. It also had a pool bar and served snacks, so no need to keep making journeys to the other pool. Didn't watch any of the evening entertainment so can't comment, but we did use the bar next to the restaurant most nights and sat outside as the evenings were pleasant. The bar staff are really friendly, chatty and actually seemed like they enjoyed their jobs. The same goes for the restaurant staff, very friendly and very efficient. I was surprised to see a few negative comments from other reviewers regarding the food at meal times. We found it varied, with lots of choice and considering we are fussy eaters found it very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel to families and couples and will no doubt stay here again in the future. Collapse
Nice holiday week.

Don't know were others stopped but food here is pretty good. Lots of choice if you looked. Only odd thing is your faced with main meals then soup is at the other end as is carved meat which was very good. We had beef, duck and chicken all of which were cooked properly. They have a man in the middle with a griddle an he's doing good stuff, steaks an pork chops! Room was lovely with air con and balcony and room was cleaned every day. I believe only posh rooms get this treatment mind. Will go again. Collapse
