On arrival my wife and I felt the outside of the hotel looked rather downmarket We were allocated a room with so many flights of stairs to climb that before we had unpacked my wife went to reception to complain. About 5 minutes later, before my wife got back, a manager and labourer came to the room, informed me we had been relocated and carried everything to a far better location level with the kids pool and the bar and dining areas. No stairs! We subsequently discovered our first impressions were wrong. All the staff were lovely. The food was excellent, and the apartments are huge. We were all inclusive and found that the local drinks served at the bars were perfectly acceptable. There is a walk to the beach area of around 15 minutes downhill, and of course uphill on the way back, but there is so much to see and do on they way that makes the walk an enjoyable experience. The entertainment is mediocre but we made so many friends in the bar that we did not need the entertainment! Having seen the prices at other local hotels we were convinced that Playa Olid offers fantastic value for money. A friendly 3 star hotel, great staff, good food and drink, and well located. Large airy rooms We would definitely stay here again Collapse

Just back after 10 nights here. We usually go 4 star minimum when all inclusive but this is an excellent 3 star hotel. Good size rooms, great staff and very clean throughout. Couldn't fault the food with huge selection every meal. Can't understand people moaning about the food there is always at least 4 different meats aswell as a roast at evenings and 3 fish selections. What more do they want. All well cooked and well presented. Decent drinks package, I particularly liked the sangria at the lobby bar. We used the quiet pool always sunbeds to be had and good snacks at the bar there. Cant comment on the main pool but it looked ideal for families. Entertainment not to our liking maybe this time of year should be more geared to older visiters but this is my only gripe. Quite central for the resort and would definitely return. Collapse

The apartments and suites have been refurbished and the rooms are spacious and clean. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the pools and surrounding areas well maintained. Reading previous reviews, I am very surprised with the food being described as “amazing”. It simply is not. Perhaps for those who don’t travel much, but even then, it is just shockingly bad. Vegetarians have very few options and vegans may as well forget it. They do supply dairy milk alternatives but they aren’t replaced when necessary and weren’t fresh. The dinners and lunches were repetitive and even the vegetables were tasteless and cold at most times. The whole thing resembled a school canteen and instead of looking forward to the meal, it was like being punished. Ended up eating outside of the hotel. The drinks are of low quality too and mostly unpalatable. The suites have a Dolce Gusto coffee machine and few capsules are provided as a “welcome pack”, they aren’t replenished and, upon enquiry, the guests are told that those aren’t replaced. So what’s the point of having a coffee machine when you won’t supply coffee!? The capsules were available to buy at the nearby store at €5.40 which is £1.40 more than in the U.K. The suites are supposed to offer a complementary towelling robe and slippers. The robe was there, the slippers weren’t. The evening entertainment left much to be desired too. Starting with a kids’ mini disco, which featured shockingly loud music, at way too high levels for the babies and small children who were attending. It’s surprising none of them ended up with burst ear drums! The three stars are indeed what the property deserves. The food deserves barely one. Collapse

We stayed for one week in March, the hotel itself was really nice and always clean. The rooms were very spacious with a nice big balcony. The food was ok got a little bit repetitive but that would be expected at an all inclusive. The non alcoholic drinks weren't great, the slushes were nice including the pina colada one which if you get at the big pool bar the waiter will put extra rum in without needing to ask. The wine wasn't very nice, we found ourselves drinking gin and lemon Fanta or Amstel. The entertainment guys were great offering activities throughout the day and amazing shows in the evening, we particularly loved the musical, 80s and parrot shows. The hotel isn't too far away from the beach but it is a bit of a hill to get back up to the hotel. There are plenty of bars and restaurants really close by if you want to get out, would recommend Delhi darbar which is just down the road. The bus to Siam park is also really close by which I would definitely go to, it's possible to buy tickets within the hotel which is handy. Collapse

Someone once said, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is! Having holidayed in Tenerife for four years seeing an advert with a large good reputation holiday company, I took the plunge and booked what looked like a bargain. We have stayed in three different hotels before this one, and totally enjoyed every experience. We booked a suite and on the whole it was perfect, two bedrooms both with TVs and comfy beds, a clean bathroom, a complimentary bar fridge, with a few snacks, cutlery microwave and kettle. Our master room had a spa bath which was one of the reasons I decided to book. Our room was on the first floor, just inches from the main road and what seemed to be the locals hangout from ten pm, but worse, our balcony from which we should have had a pool view, was directly on a walkway and sunbathing terrace no pool in sight.. from eight am until midnight a Steady swarm of people passed our apartment, or settled outside on a lounger right outside our balcony, this meant that we couldn't have a bath in our room without closing the curtains and if we wanted to use our balcony felt obliged to greet every person who passed, as the night went on the guests got more wobbly, loud and annoying, I felt like I was in a goldfish bowl all week. I'm amazed a suite could be placed on a walkway offering zero privacy and every guest the opportunity to look in your room. It was surreal. On to the all inclusive, it is not something we have ever done before, and I'm guessing that this kind of deal is for people with good appetite or a fear of trying local restaurants, who knows!? I just think after experiencing it, it's a totally unnecessary and slightly greedy fashion by some hotels, it obviously targets a certain client who perhaps feels it's good value. All I can say is that in an entire weeks holiday, we didn't eat at the hotel once, even though in affect we had paid for the food, even though it included breakfast lunch and dinner and as much as you could drink until 11pm. On our first evening I visited the restaurant, it reminded me of a school canteen and the food looked, well worse than school dinners. I checked again at breakfast.. I'm amazed at the reviews complimenting the food, I don't think I know anywhere in Britain not one greasy spoon who would serve last night's carrots on the full English breakfast, it amazed me, you have British holiday reps on site but nobody has bought up this weird European trend of serving any of last night's veg as an alternative for beans or tomatoes or mushroom... We had one drink from the pool bar, the soft drinks reminded me of happy shopper, full of syrup with that cheap after taste you can't get rid of. Needless to say, our upgraded, pool view room without a view of a pool, was occupied with curtains closed and we found plenty of wonderful places to eat breakfast lunch and dinner, it may have cost us,but we were on holiday and it made up for the lack of privacy and canteen style offerings. Would I come back? If my suite was guaranteed to be away from a walkway and if there was an option to be room only, possibly. I'd never pay to stay here with all inclusive food and drink, you'd actually have to pay me to make me eat that food. It isn't necessary. The location is ok, not so much if you have walking issues, it's a steep walk back from town, but only a five minute walk to a great spa, and ten minutes to the aqua park. There's a 24 hours supermarket opposite the hotel and a selection of restaurants, a pharmacy and shops within five minutes. If you like good quality food, take your wallet, if you book a suite request it's not first floor. The swimming pool had loads of inflatables for the kids and wasn't freezing cold. All in all the hotel was nice, but our rooms position put a damper on our stay, and I just don't understand why anyone would want to be all inclusive and spend an entire week feeling you can't leave the hotel because you might miss feeding time, it's so very odd when you are in a beautiful resort. I'm sure the hotel would do just as well doing just breakfast included, and offering a menu at lunch and dinner rather than a carvery/canteen it might even draw other people in with a real restaurant. It's a nice hotel but the food wasn't to our taste. Im sure if you have booked a suite you'll love it (not on first floor!) Xxx Collapse
