My parents' gave our family an early Christmas present with a trip to the Pink Shell Resort. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the wonderful valet staff. They were so friendly and helpful. My parents paid for rooms for my family as well as my brother's family. At first, I was very off-put by the service at the front desk. My mom, who organized this whole trip and herself spent 12 nights at the resort had issues with her room--and let's be honest for 3 rooms and all those nights, she spent a lot of money. On her 3rd night there, they moved her to another room, which was great because the room she was in had a lot of issues, but after she spent several hours unpacking, she was told that she would have to move rooms again which was a major inconvenience. The front desk person at the time did not seem very interested in helping, and we spent hours trying to get it all squared away, and another guest in line behind us began to heckle my mom which I found to be very rude, though that is not a reflection on the resort. In the meantime, we went down to Jack's for breakfast. I thought the buffet was really good and my kids both enjoyed it too. The variety was decent and changed daily. John at the waffle and omelet station was great at handling so many different orders all at once. The servers were all great and friendly, and we did go down to Jack's every morning of our 6-night stay. My only suggestion here would be to help the hostess to get a little more organized. We all thought that she seemed very frazzled when it would get busy. The resort had a lot of great perks. We took out the kayaks on the beach and we loved the oversized beach towels. My kids are homeschooled and so this was a week off a school, but we still tried to get in some learning, which we did because the 9am nature walk with Vince was so informative! We all learned some wonderful things like how to tell the difference between different sea shells and what to look for on the beach. Definitely would recommend, but if your kids are little and not up for walking, skip this because it is about an hour long walk. We enjoyed the chairs and umbrellas set up on the beach and the service of the staff that was out there too. My kids loved the pool and we also spent a lot time there. The main pool, the Octo-pool did seem a little small on the weekend when there were a lot of adults in it, but we managed fine. The room issue my mom was having was finally resolved and John Blankenship at the front desk was very patient and helpful. I was really glad we got to deal with him and was thankful for his care and concern. We stayed in Captiva in a one-bedroom and overall it was good. The sliding doors could probably be oiled soon as they were very hard to open, and when the people above and below us were opening the doors of theirs, the floor in our room would vibrate. The annoying part about that was my kids would wake up earlier than I would have liked based on people opening their doors. The housekeeping service was great, we always had fresh towels and they brought us extra linens for our kids' blow up beds. I believe our housekeeper's name was Sahane, but I did not write it down. She was very pleasant and what surprised me was that she even did our dirty dishes each day. Her timing was always very good and we never had a conflict with our schedule to getting the room cleaned. Another great thing I loved about Captiva was the on-floor laundry which was not an additional cost. We used several days and it was nice not having to mess around with finding quarters. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return. Collapse

I'll be sad to check out tomorrow morning! I originally booked a studio room in the Sanibel building but was upgraded to a one bedroom suite in Captiva - AMAZING! This resort is fantastic and nothing is overlooked. Our housekeeper Gloria is a delight! The on site restaurants are delicious, and the buffet each morning is the best I've had (they even change the buffet menu items daily). The 'adult' pool near the Sanibel building is secluded and quiet, and more than once my husband and I had the pool to ourselves. I plan on returning again and again. Collapse
Review from a Veteran Meeting Planner

Excellent venue for small to medium groups (not to exceed 100). The sales and services staff are attentive and have full situation awareness giving meeting planners "peace" of mind. They take the worries out of planning.

Bongo's is beside the pool area and a great spot for a lunch of soup salad & sandwich! Absolutely love this place for the service and accommodations, can't beat the view of the gulf or lying on the pristine white sand! Collapse
