A disappointing stay at what could be a great resort

We booked a room in the Sanibel Suites building (one bedroom with a small kitchen). I thought the room was a bit expensive at $240/night but we were anxious to get away from the Minnesota cold. Unfortunately, I was correct about this resort being over priced. The quality of the facilities and service level of the staff were no better than at a standard 3 star hotel. The only outstanding feature of this resort is the beach front, which is spectacular. First, the rooms. When we checked in, I asked for a room that was not directly above the pool mechanicals as I had read a review on Trip Advisor that suggested that was very noisy. That night I was kept awake all night by the noise of the pool mechanicals, which, it turns out, were right outside our window. In addition, the beds were so uncomfortable (think huge imprint in the center left by a 400 pound person) that I didn't sleep all night. The next morning, I requested a room change which was politely accommodated by the front desk. The noise level was much improved, however, the bed situation was no different. When I asked for a solution, I was told that they have memory foam mattresses with "unfortunately mold to people's bodies and we have lots of bigger people who stay at the resort." Other than putting a mattress pad on the bed, I was told there's nothing they can do. 6 nights of no sleep did not make me a very happy guest. The 2nd room we checked into had a large tear in the screen around the lanai. The screens are necessary because of the no-see-um bugs that eat you alive! When I called for it to be fix, the maintenance man came up and put masking tape on the screen and said it would be fixed the next day. Which it wasn't. So our beautiful view was obscured for 3 days by a big mess of masking tape. It was, finally, fixed, on the 3rd day. The restaurant, pool side and beach service is incredibly slow and surprisingly rude. Our waiter at the beach suggested my 21 year old daughter order the childsize pizza; he said they were large and enough to share. The tiny pizza arrived (think pita bread size) and it wasn't enough for an adult. The waiter apologized and said he would order another one for her, which was a good solution, but then he tried to charge us for the 2nd pizza -- which, would have made her meal 1.75x more expensive than if we had ordered the larger pizza to begin with. I refused to pay. The beachfront and the beach activities are the highlight of this resort. We went on a wave runner dolphin spotting excursion and had a blast. We also played around with the complimentary SUPs, which was fun. The chairs and umbrellas are complimentary and service is efficient. The breakfast, which is included, is ok if you stand in line and get eggs or waffles made to order. The steam table food is awful. All in all, I'd like to say that I'd go back to this resort because of the beautiful beach, but being unable to sleep and having such poor service will definitely prevent me from returning. Collapse
Staff incredibly helpful!

I accidentally left my credit card with the poolside bar. But when I realized this, I was already back in Iowa! So I called the head of security, Neil, and he had it mailed back to me at no expense to myself. I am truly grateful.

We visited the Pink Shell for the first time recently, knowing little about the resort but not seeing a lot of couple-oriented rooms online (many options in Ft Myers Beach were huge rooms with dated furniture and sleeper sofas). Here our room was a nice studio style with balcony facing the ocean and a kitchenette, everything we needed without a lot of wasted space and clunky furniture. While there's plenty of stuff for kids to do at the Pink Shell (a kid-specific pool and excursions, etc) we had a great adult time as well. From the excellent food at decent prices (a three-course meal for $35 each at Jack's, the more formal of the two restaurants on the grounds) to the free kayaks and paddle boards it was an easy place to fall in love with. We will certainly be back! Collapse

We have been visiting the Pink Shell Resort for a week in January for the past five years now and highly recommend it. The property is beautiful and sits between a bay and the Gulf of Mexico, so you are surrounded by water. The resort has five different themed pools (all well heated) for those who prefer not to swim in the Gulf. Lots of places to walk and enjoy nature, but also an easy walk into 'town' for more stores and restaurants. The resort offers a delicious breakfast buffet every day as well as a newly opened farm to table restaurant for dinner. Also on the premises is a bar/grill that offers wonderful cuisine any time of the day. Probably my favorite part of the resort are the private, screened in lanais. We always have a beautiful view of the Gulf 24 hours a day. If you are looking for a beautiful, relaxing place to warm up mid winter, this is the place! Collapse
