We booked a weeks golfing holiday at this hotel on the advice of a customer service rep at Your Golf Travel. We are beginner golfers with no handicap. Whilst the hotel boasts a fine championship course (which we didn't venture out on, even though we were informed that it would have been ok in the afternoon when it wouldn't be busy) there is also an Academy course, which we found to be like a nursery course with quite narrow fairways and offering plenty of challenges for a beginner, not very busy, so no pressure to hurry your play because other players are following. There is a 3rd course, the Resort course. This felt like a "proper" golf course and we enjoyed it very much; more challenging than the Academy with longer holes and a good intermediate course. The hotel itself is very well appointed and all the staff, hotel and golfing, are very helpful and polite. We look forward to coming back, when we will request a room with a balcony. Collapse

My wife and I arrived at Penina for a seven day break with 7 rounds of golf. Starting with the accommodation, they are spacious enough and fairly well equipped. Housekeeping was not what I expected from a five star hotel with attention to detail missing at times. The breakfast bar was well equipped with various dishes to choose from, we found the staff to be very friendly and attentive during our stay. Restaurants we ate at the buffet which we found disappointing and pleased it was included otherwise I would have been very disappointed. That said the spikes bar served up some great pub style food after a round of golf. I must say the food in the Italian was fantastic, very tasty and I had an excellent 3 course meal. This was the highlight as far as the food goes. The golf course, I certainly enjoyed the course, a few testing holes but overall this course provides plenty of opportunity to make par and birdie. Playing with different couples each day was also enjoyable. Speaking to a number of people and the starters on the 1st tee people who have been to Penina recently will agree that the fairways need to be shaved back to assist the ladies who struggle to make the fairways. I don’t know the course policy but a grievance I have is that the course does not reward accurate and straight play due to the fairways not being cut. On numerous occasions during my rounds I was frustrated to hit straight tee shots only to see it caught up on the fairways short of the yardage I normally hit. Again I am sure I am not the only one to find this. Overall an enjoyable week away playing golf and relaxing by the pool in the afternoon. Point to note the pool is freezing in my opinion and needs to be a few degrees warmer. The staff were excellent and its their hard work and commitment that ensured a pleasant stay. Would we return, probably not. Collapse

The hotel is welcoming and quite luxurious. The reception staff were very busy when we arrived and though our booking had been made on one booking we found that our two double rooms were on different floors. This was rectified quickly. The room we were given was very small and narrow. It was very well appointed with a Nespresso coffee machine ( this also was used to make tea!! ) we found the room service quite random..we constantly were requesting more tea bags and each time we did we were brought 2, no milk etc etc... the bathroom products were good quality but only one shampoo etc to share daily...I found this strange for a five star hotel. Our friends who were on their third break in Penina had a slightly larger room and got a bottle of water daily! This was our first time so we only got water on day one! All a bit random. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was amazing! There is a huge swimming pool with soft padded loungers. The golf is included in the price so if you're a golfer this offers excellent value as playing golf in Portugal has got really expensive. Collapse

Wow!! Beautiful setting, Great personal throughout the Hotel complex. Very accommodating and knew their product. Big plus they know the area for Resturant's and other adventures. They listened to what our needs and wants were. Then followed up to see how their recommendations were so they could advise other guest. Rooms were spacious for European standards, nice to not be on top of each other and spread out. Golf course is very well maintained. Looking forward to our next trip. Collapse
