Great location, friendly staff

We spent the year end visiting some friends in Leuven, and this hotel seemed quite convenient. Personally I was a bit concerned of the possible noise, due to the proximity of the Train Station but, to my surprise, the room was almost perfectly silent. Really, great isolation! The staff was friendly, though nobody seemed to be a native speaker of dutch. Other than that we were a bit unlucky on the reforms being done at the restaurant. For this reason we had to walk between the breakfast room at the lobby area (on a VERY cold room) and the actual buffet upstairs (literally) on the first floor. Anyway, the breakfast quality was good, and the choice more than enough. If we ever get back to Leuven, I think we already have a hotel ;-) Collapse
It met all our expectations

You will already know the convenient location of the hotel in relation to the station and city centre from the repetition in previous reviews, so what other information might be useful without reiteration. As for location, if it is your first visit you should be aware that although virtually overlooking the station the hotel is not really visible from the station on arrival nor from the station square outside, and there is no directional sign on the station (unless I missed it). Don’t leave the station but locate the lift from the end of the platform (there is one on each platform) to the wide footbridge that crosses the railway lines, head away from the main station exit and you will soon see the hotel sign on the large white wall at the end of the bridge. It really is that close. It is also close to the main bus station, which is beside the railway station, from where you can get a bus to most towns in that area of Belgium, including Brussels (North) if you’re looking for a day out somewhere. Another bonus of the location is that, while the area around railway stations can often be rather shabby and depressing, that is not the case here. The large station square is pleasantly agreeable and lined with bars, brasseries and restaurants that would suit all tastes, from a fast food snack bar serving burger, kebab and chips ranging through basic local bars, comfortable brasserie-style cafes and restaurants, to more upmarket restaurants such as De Klimop. There is even an Indian restaurant opposite the bus station. Most bars offer a good range of Belgian beers, particularly the Marie Theresa bar, so this choice of places for evening refreshment means that you don’t have to go into the city if you prefer to stay close to the hotel but not in it, (nor have far to return if you decide to sample plenty of the local beers!). As for the hotel, I would firstly compliment all the staff we met over three days in being unfailing polite, friendly and helpful, whether it be morning, afternoon or evening. An earlier review mentions the lack of a refrigerator in the room, and this is so although I can confirm the management response in that a fridge is available at reception where staff can store anything that requires it. We used this facility and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful in that respect and it was not a problem. Our room was modern, clean, comfortable, with a safe, tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom had a sizeable walk-in shower, although the toilet was in a separate room. Like many modern hotels, the windows do not open, so those who like fresh air might miss that aspect. We did not have breakfast (or any meal) at the hotel so cannot comment on this aspect or the dining rooms. We stayed at this hotel two years ago and it met all our requirements, which is why we returned this time. I’m pleased to say that we were similarly pleased with everything and will have no hesitation in using this hotel again when next visiting the city. Collapse
