I had a quick overnight business trip come up, and needing to be in midtown figured I'd try the Paramount again after staying there many years ago. Check-in was a fiasco. The first room was tiny and with a temporary a/c unit hung in the window and insulation material covering the gaps. The second room I tried appeared to be the "Deluxe King" I booked, but was already occupied by others (they seemed to be a lovely couple for the moment we met when I opened their door with the key I'd been issued). The third room appeared to be the "Broadway Classic" rather then the more expensive, and slightly roomier, "Deluxe King" that I booked, but I didn't have any fight left in me at that point. The desk staff was friendly enough, but management was not too interested in discussing these issues. Other than a drink coupon at check-in, and waiver of a facilities fee at checkout, the managers stuck to their guns saying that I got the room I'd booked, and the photos on the website were inaccurate and being addressed. In any event, the interior of the hotel (lobby, elevators, hallways, rooms) is much as I remembered it from 20 years ago, and is certainly tired in places. The room was clean enough, but overall the place needs a refresh. The online photos are much nicer than the conditions you encounter in person. Collapse

This hotel was selected for us by Thomas Cook staff because of its position which was very close to Times Square. We had just spent 3 nights in Washington in a fabulous room with two king sized beds, lots of space and a superb bathroom. We had expected the room in New York to be smaller due to location but the size was minute. A standard 4'6" bed had been squeezed into a room only adequate in size in my opinion for a single bed and the floor 10 window looked out onto a bleak wall. The wardrobe was less than adequate. The drawers in here would not open because the hinges on the door got in the way and there was only hanging space for 2 or 3 short items. No chance of hanging up a dress! We did not unpack our suitcases as we felt there was no room to put anything. The two cases we had had to be put one on top of the other as there was no spare 'walking space' or storage space within the room. There was a tiny space at one side of the bed as it almost touched the wall and a tiny table at the other side. The room was very old and shabby looking with a rusty antiquated and very loud air conditioning unit. The bathroom was also very small, so much so that the towels were stored behind the mirror. The bath was old and worn and had a shower with a curtain above it. The only positive I could say about the room is that it had a small safe. There was no free WiFi and no chance of any tea or coffee as there was no room to put this anywhere. The hotel corridors, lift and lounge areas were all depressingly dark. You could not even see the floor numbers in the lift. We did not like this. Even the security guy beside the lifts needed a torch to see our room card. We had a drink in the bar area one night and one night only as a small coke (which was mostly ice) was more than $5 and then had an additional 18% or 20% service charge. As stated previously this was just as dark as the lobby area so to us was unpleasant. The hotel was close to the corner of 8th and 46th West avenues so was about a 15 minute walk from the train station. It was indeed very close to Times Square and Broadway and was within walking distance of Central Park so I could not fault the location but all in all it was a very disappointing hotel to spend our three nights in New York. We'll choose somewhere a little further away next time with enough space to walk around the room and a lobby area which is light and airy. Collapse

The hotel lobby is lovely and cosy. Ambient lighting makes it very welcoming. The staff were lovely and friendly. HOWEVER the rooms are shabby and grubby. I didn't necessarily expect luxury but I did expect clean! We complained to the hotel manager and asked to swap too. There was no apology however we did get another room. Unfortunately it was not much better. We heard 2 other people complain about the same issue as we did. This is a shame as it could be a lovely hotel and is in a great location 4 star it is not. Cannot recomend Collapse

Very nice and goodlocking hotel with a awesome reception room. I wasn't told the room has a view on just a wall, but the overall experience was more than good. Perfect position, 3 mins walking from Times Square.

Stayed at the hotel Paramount and at first I was not at the least bit impressed. My room was not what I expected. Somehow my booking agent reserved the wrong room type and I found myself in a rather small single room. To say I was disappointed was an understatement! Then to my rescue came the director who immediately turned my frown to a smile. He set up a beautiful room for me and boy was I wowed! Then his assistant Desiree followed up to assure I was comfortable and set. Now thats what I call hospitality and team work! Next time I'm back in New York I'm Paramount bound! Collapse
