We recently stayed for 2 nights (Thurs & Fri) for business and pleasure during Taste of Chicago. This iconic classic Hilton property is a beautiful historic building in a great location in downtown Chicago Loop. We had a King Bed room on the Executive Hilton Honors floor with Executive Lounge privileges. Our King room was very spacious - it needed more furniture actually, like a couch and another chair! Our King room had 2 separate bathrooms and 2 separate closets on each side of the bedroom which was great!. There really isn't a view from all of the rooms and we had none, just another brick building. We had a car so parked it ourselves at self-park around the corner in a very nice indoor parking garage with in/out privileges. It was very convenient, safe parking. Overnight parking was Priced about right for downtown Chicago. In hotel, once you enter at street level, you take escalator up to Lobby level and their main floor with bar and guest registration. The hotel front desk is not organized well and guests were lined up down the hall. We went to the Hilton Honors desk for check in and it was empty, no one working it, not happy about that! Check in was total chaos and Hilton can do better than that! The lobby and bar area are absolutely beautiful and the ceiling is a work of art! We loved the special elevator for Executive Floors only and it definitely saved us time waiting for the elevator. The Executive Lounge was over crowded, under staffed, very hot/lack of climate control, messy, running out of food and a disaster! We had to stand and eat our breakfast in the hot lounge getting bumped by other guests. The carpet was always dirty and in need of vacuum. They were running out of everything, food, silverware, ice, plates, coffee you name it! The same holds true during the happy hour we attended early evening in the Executive Lounge. Need a better variety of snacks during happy hour. Other Hilton properties do the Exec Lounge service way better so consider yourself warned. All that being said, I would still stay here again due to room comfort/size, hotel location and parking available. Collapse

We normally don't stay at a Hilton as it is really out of our price range (leading us to NOT eat or drink on the premises), but this one was pre-reserved for us as part of a convention. This is a classic hotel in downtown Chicago (EXCELLENT location, I might add), but they have worked very hard to bring it into the 21st century. They have succeeded in just about every way they can. The room we had was rather small, but that's something that really can't be "adjusted" without tearing out walls! The room had all the perks you look for in a higher end hotel, including a nice sized flat screen TV and a removable computer tablet with local travel information. You can even take it with you as you tour the city (just be sure to return to the room at the end of your stay!). Some reviews have stated it needs some updating and better cleaning, but I didn't find that to be an issue in our case. The facility as a whole is incredibly elegant with beautiful lobbies and serving areas. In addition to all that the Palmer House provides, what really had me give it an "excellent" review was THE STAFF! EVERY single staff person we had contact with, from 10 seconds to 10 minutes was OUTSTANDING! Each one was attentive, helpful, polite, and friendly! Every question we had was answered quickly and kindly. I wish I had all their names to give them recognition. Thanks for providing us with a wonderful stay. Collapse

In Chicago for business three nights. Everything breaths a bit tired. Room on the Executive floor, considering the price I would expect the executive lounge to breath more of a fresher/ lighter "air", and considering the times we live in I would expect more climate friendly details including towels actually NOT being changed when not on the floor. I would also expect light bulbs changed in walk in closet when leaving a written note on the matter. Wake up Mr Palmer! Collapse
Great staff and beautiful lobby but mediocre otherwise

We were recently in Chicago for a convention and were assigned this hotel by the group hosting the event. I found the front desk staff to be very helpful and courteous during check-in. Upon entering our room we found it to be clean but somewhat small but to be expected in an older hotel building. Common areas were also clean and well maintained. My major complaint was the mini-bar in the room. As there were no other refrigerators in the room I placed a couple of bottles of water in the cooler only to have my wife point out the little sign that you would be charged for ANYTHING taken out of the fridge. Even if you put it in there yourself. I quickly pulled the drinks out and called the front desk to assure I would not be charged. They told me it would not be charged but I find it irritating to have a refrigerator in your room that you cannot use. Plus there were overpriced candies and food items on top. Having five young grandchildren I could see this would offer a temptation to anyone using the room with young kids. My other complaint was no coffee service in the room. Really? The property offers overpriced cold drinks for sale but can't provide a simple coffee pot and a few coffee packets? On the plus side we were offered free internet by our hosting group in the hotel and we found it to be fast and readily available. We never ate at the hotel restaurant but we found reasonable breakfasts and lunches in the area at Beef N' Brandy plus the Corner Cafe as well. Collapse
