I stay at this hotel frequently (at least once a month) for work, and have always found it to keep to the same high standards. Staff are friendly and helpful and the property is always clean and well kept. Smooth check in process, room always ready on arrival. Free wifi, although it is capped at 500mb per day per device and paid wifi still only allows you to use 3gb, meaning a netflix marathon isn't on the cards here if you fancy a lazy day! This isn't too much of an issue however, as the TV in each room offers several free movie channels which run 24/7 with a great selection. The bar on level 2 isn't all that big and is usually heaving with people by seven every evening, but again this isn't really a big issue as across the street from the hotel is the Montecasino which has a fantastic selection of bars and restaurants (tip: try ThreeSixty, live music and great prices!) I haven't tried the food in the hotel (restaurant, room service, pool menu) but it looks great, only downside is I'm told by several friends that it always takes a very long time to get you. Beds are incredibly comfortable, and every room has blackout curtains, a good sized desk with plenty of power points and a safe in the wardrobe. No matter how many times I visit, I'm always eager to go back. Collapse

We booked a Priscilla Queen of the Desert package with Palazzo - we were so spoilt and had an amazing time. Firstly we were upgraded to executive rooms. The rooms are beautiful and spacious - lots of olde world glamour. At reception we were brought special welcome drinks. There were further surprises on arrival in our rooms - chilled champagne, cupcakes and goodie bags. The hotel arranged for a golf cart to drop us off at the theatre as well as pick us up. Both dinner and breakfast at the Medeo restaurant were superb. The staff were incredibly thoughtful, friendly and efficient. Look forward to another visit. Thank you Palazzo for making our stay so memorable. Collapse

This was one of the most disappointing hotel stays. The price was astronomical for ZA - $300+ a night and the hotel clearly wants to be upscale but they have some major flaws. The hotel is beautiful and set up like a European villa but you don't get spoiled like a European hotel. Call me haughty but I stayed here for two weeks and felt like an intrusion. I don't think it's a bad hotel but for the price and reputation, I expect a flawless stay. First, I arrived very late at night. The front desk was ok but didn't give me too much information on the hotel. The hair dryer was literally attached to the desk. The ornate bathroom had a huge shower and bath but no counter space. The room itself was pretty small for the price and the lighting was very bad. To get ready every morning, I had to open the shades to get natural light because the bathroom was so dark. The view out was very nice. Unfortunately, I had a view of the patio and there were a lot of parties at the restaurant at night. At least two nights, there were loud groups sitting on the patios having dinner at 10pm or later. Sorry - I have to get up for work... I called to the front desk but they didn't seem quick to ruin the other parties fun and the noise usually died down by 11pm. The gym was nice and usually stocked with water bottles - but not always. I didn't use the pool but it looked crowded. Room service was average. The caprese panini was sopping wet and almost inedible. The dessert was good. They forgot some of my meal so I had to call back down to get my water. Housekeeping was very nice and kept the room clean, though they loved to re-arrange my clothing and toiletries. The worst part of the entire stay was the included buffet breakfast. It was part of my room but never explained to me. I think I could have ordered breakfast from a menu but not sure. The food selection was ok - very European with fresh fruit, eggs, cheese, pastries, etc. As a vegetarian, there was enough to eat. They are near the aviary and there are a LOT of birds flying on the patio and the dining room. It's really gross. They'll land on your table and take the food. There are a lot of staff but they don't clear tables quick enough. I saw them eating the granola on the buffet!! It's lovely with the windows open in the dining room but the birds need screening or something. I saw some peacocks on the open patio but they didn't try to steal my toast! Finally, it takes a good 10-15 minutes to get a cup of coffee from a server. My coworker and I started ordering everyone's coffee in advance, otherwise we couldn't get through breakfast in a half hour. I know not everyone is rushing to work in the morning but most people like to start with their coffee in the morning... Also, sometimes there was a host or hostess, other times I just sat myself as there was no staff visible. Not sure if that was my coffee issue but it was probably 10+ days with no coffee for a long time... Collapse
