We just returned from a short break from Malta. Good: Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted with smiles and a welcome drink (a local cola). Although we were early, we were able to check in early. The concierge (Andrew) was extremely friendly and helpful. Good: We had paid for a Superior Room and were pleased with the size and cleanliness. The bed was very comfortable although huge (it was like my husband and I were sleeping in two separate double beds as it was that large). The balcony had a fabulous view of Valletta. Good: The location of the hotel is just up the hill from the ferry to Valletta, shopping, and restaurants. It does require walking - it is on the top of a hill - so bring the appropriate shoes. Good: The Happy Hour drinks were very good value for money. Bad: Our stay at the Palace did not start out well as we had booked a cab from the airport with the cab company affiliated with the hotel and the driver was not waiting for us upon arrival but rather we had call and remind them and then wait over 30 minutes for the driver. Bad: As our stay progressed, we realized that the balcony was great but that it was also an ashtray for the Terrace restaurant above. Every morning we woke up to a a balcony covered with cigarette butts. Bad: The bathroom is as other guests mentioned a strange open design in that the walls on three sides do not actually meet the ceiling. This is not the worst I've experienced but for the more conservative amongst us, it is not ideal as it isn't really soundproof. Also, the shower leaked water all over the floor through a gap in the glass screen and the hinge. I had been using washcloths to plug the gap but apparently the washcloths are decorative as once you use them, they do not get replaced. We were without washcloths for the last two days of our stay. Additionally, there are only two small bath towels which is ridiculous given even two star hotels provide at least three large ones. Bad: On the second night after a cold snap, the air-conditioning seemed to have a problem regulating the temperature and would cut on and of in the space of 30 seconds through out the night. We turned it off altogether after a sleepless night of listening to it go on and off, on and off, on and off..... Bad: The room service food was average to below average as was the Chinese buffet. We had better food in some of the nearby restaurants outside of the hotel. Ugly: A valuable item went "missing" from our room. The hotel management acted promptly and did not take the incident lightly. Nevertheless, we ultimately had to file a police report which meant two trips to the nearby Maltese police station late at night and early the next day and we will now have to go through the insurance claim process. It ruined the end of our holiday. All in all, despite the ugly, the Palace is a nice hotel but I would not say given the Bad that it is yet a five star hotel when compared to five star hotels in other European or US cities. Collapse

My daughter and I stayed a week at this hotel. We were on the 6th floor and had a good view of the sea. The day after we arrived we walked to Spinola bay, which is about a 25 minute walk. Unfortunately my sandal snapped. I bought some glue and asked one of the staff to translate the instructions. He took my sandal and said he would fix it and send it back to my room. Within 30 minutes my sandal and I was reunited fully repaired. So thank you to this member of staff. The breakfast was excellent with a great selection. All the staff was very pleasant. One gentleman who took our luggage to the room was a very smiley man with lovely manners. Well done The Palace. Collapse

I was 'upgraded' at extra cost which I thought was initially complimentary. The bathroom flooded, I had to call an engineer to fix a door. There were no electrical points in the room, except one for the kettle! I was given an extention cable so that I could connect my computer and phone. They changed my room! I reported that the main light was not working - to no avail. The food at best was warm and overpriced. After 3 days I left, never to return Collapse

Housekeeping was a bit up and down though, dirty mugs left, shower gel not replaced , missing towels etc. The pool on the top floor is only open during the summer months, so the only outdoor space is the bar on the ground floor. I can highly recommend the Palace Hotel. Their staff were great and helpful with a good attitude. I also had breakfast which was delicates; I ate it on the balcony with beautiful view. I also used facilities of the hotel: Spa, swimming pool and gym. I am picky regarding gym, but their gym was great. I had everything that was necessary for proper training. The Palace Hotel is perfect place to relax. Collapse
