We booked a flight/half board package through BA and overall weren't disappointed. We chose the 5 star Palace as we had previously enjoyed a stay at its sister hotel The Victoria. The hotels are essentially back-to-back and joined at the higher levels, which can be disorienting at times. The room was very generous in size with good fixtures and fittings. There were no obvious maintenance, decorative or repair issues in the room which we find unusual these days (cracked tiles, dead light bulbs, poor housekeeping, are all too common), but then this is 5 star. The attached photo is the view from our balcony. The facilities included sauna, steam room, gym, indoor and outdoor pools, all free of charge to guests. We used all of these. There's also a spa with chargeable treatments. When on holiday the food is always something we look forward to at the beginning and end of each day and this is why we gave only a 4 star rating to this review. To be precise, the hotel gets 5, the food only 2. The 2 is split as a 5 for breakfast and just 1 for dinner. We've never had a worse experience at any hotel anywhere before. The food was predictable, bland, overly complicated, and for me (my wife scores it a 3) largely inedible. Main dishes were often mislabelled e.g. chicken was actually lamb one night and chicken was actually fish another night. Dishes were spoiled by having too many ingredients such that the original flavours were lost. The delicate taste of rabbit (in a stew) was in the end totally lost to my palate as it was overpowered by stuffing and herbs. Ironically by far the best meal of the holiday was the inclusive lunch on the day tour of Gozo (through BA agent Supreme Travel booked at the hotel). This was chips, chicken leg, peas. All looking and tasting exactly as you would expect. Delicious! There are other dining options within the hotel, which we didn't try, for which you get an allowance if staying on half board basis. The hotel is well situated at a high point in Sliema. 10 mins walk took us to the seafront where we could get a boat ferry (15 mins ride) to Valletta. Cheap and frequent. Would we stay again? Yes, but b+b only. Staff were very good. Collapse

From check in until checking out, the service we received was second to none. Friendly, helpful staff who did their utmost to make our stay was as comfortable as possible. Large airy well presented room on the third floor. Not a great view of a wall directly in front but distant sea view to the side. Cleaning service was efficient although I don’t think the Maltese drink quite as much tea as I do! Fantastic breakfast selection in a comfortable restaurant. Talk of the Town does great food although service can be a little slow. TemptAsian restaurant was a disappointment, both food wise and seating which was uncomfortable with glaring lights set low in the wall. Indoor pool ok, quite small, gym basic but suitable for the size of the hotel. Outdoor pool area nice but as it was off season, not warm enough to go in the water. The Spa environment and treatments were wonderful and highly recommended. All in all this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in for the professionalism of the staff, cleanliness and atmosphere. Set in a residential area close enough to the sea but quiet enough to enjoy. As we visited before the height of the season, it was not overcrowded but I’m sure it would be much busier later. Malta is lovely and the locals very friendly. Would love to return. Collapse

We recently stayed for the weekend at The Palace, the hotel and staff are amazing. We had visited for our honeymoon and contacted the hotel before our visit to ask for a room with a sea view, upon our arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a glass of bubbly which was a nice treat!! Once we got to our room there was also a chilled bottle of bubbly courtesy of the hotel, the room was fantastic and had a view to match. The staff were so helpful and friendly during our stay and nothing was too much trouble. Also the location of the hotel is good, it is literally a 5 minute walk to the main street/bus routes etc We are planning to stay at The Palace again and would recommend it to anyone visiting Malta/Sliema. Thank you Mr & Mrs Price Collapse

Stayed here for a week 26th Feb - 3rd March ( Room 235) as a base for running the Malta Marathon. Jet 2 holiday. This was our first time to Malta so unsure what to expect. We stayed on B&B basis planning to eat out. The hotel is situated mid way between the main High St and the promenade running out to St Julians Bay so very convenient for Ferries across to Valetta and the other bays. It is however at the top of a hill so if you are not good on your legs you will need to use a cab. The hotel was absolutely excellent in all respects - great friendly customer service all round, good food in the Tabloid buffet restaurant ( some of the best hotel food we have eaten anywhere). In this respect we dropped lucky having learned of a special offer that gave you three evening meals for 55 euros per person instead of the usual 82.50 - a bargain for the really good food on offer - lots of variety and good vegetarian choices. There is an Asian a la carte restaurant on the top floor (Tempt Asian) which we didn't use. Our De Luxe room was large and comfortable with a small terrace that overlooked the street. It wasn't noisy and we were never bothered by church bells despite the huge Stella Maris church right across the road. If you want a room with a view you will need to upgrade to a better room on the top floors ( expensive !). We had two small issues that were fixed immediately ( room cleaning overlooked one day and safe lock failed). The hotel was clean and comfortable and a pleasure to stay in but the stand out quality was the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to give you a good stay. We would certainly come back here again. Collapse
