We've been going to the Palace of the Lost City close to 22 years. It had it ups and downs but for the last few years they've been stepping up their game and are truly worth the title of one of the worlds leading hotels. Arrival : The porters and staff that runs the arrival section are professional and very friendly. Check in counter : The guys and girls at the check in counter are always friendly and ready to help with anything you need. The Rooms : Quite a few to choose from, but we always stay in the superior luxury rooms at the far end of the hotel facing the back with a beautiful view of waterfalls and the magnificent gardens. We always ask for a King bed, the linen, Pillows and duvet are of superior quality and an absolute joy to sleep in and on. The bathroom has got everything you can think of needing. A nice coffee station, but the mini bar is empty and you need to order from roomservice what you want in it. That is a bit of a hassle! Roomservice is prompt and beautiful laid out. Breakfast : Breakfast over a weekend is a bit of a madhouse as everybody seems to come down to breakfast at 10! We have a que a mile long with only one lady checking you in for breakfast! I must say that as we start with going mid-week, that seems better. Pool area and Restaurant : The pool area is beautiful, but also a hassle on weekends in Summer, because of to many people. Treat yourself to a foot, back or full massage at the pool, the girls are wonderful! Tusk Bar : My favourite place for drinks and food! Lovely setting! They introduce a pub like menu that will treat all your taste buds! The grillroom and Crystal court : Crystal Court serves a buffet every night and The Grill room steaks, we didn't have a nice experience at the Grill Room as the steaks were tough. All in all, always an amazing experience for us, that why we keep on going back! Collapse

Treated the family to 2 nights at The Palace on recent holiday for my special birthday. Overall we had a super time. Seamless check in with welcome drink and our host showing us to our room an hour before official check in of 2.pm which was appreciated. Loved our spacious quite room overlooking the garden. A few small issues prevent me from giving the Palace 5 stars which I will mention in a moment. In 2 days we covered a lot of ground. Valley of waves - fantastic. Royal Salon - nice manicure. Gift Shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. Tusk Lounge - excellent. Shuttle service around Sun City Complex worked well. Secure parking and efficient wifi. Breakfast in Crystal court - great selection, pleasant staff and yes bees were a problem around the food but South Africa is in the grip of a major drought. Loved the ambience and breakfast was a highlight starting the day. The pool is lovely however when we arrived late afternoon at 4.pm there was a lot of rubbish on the ground around seats and seats were dirty ( Tomato sauce etc) took a while to find a clean environment! Catch the lift to the King Tower for great views over the Sun City Complex. Dined at Plume which was a lovely evening except some patrons were dressed very inappropriately(shorts, things, t shirts) for a restaurant where the code is smart elegant and also a few people were very "showy" and loud. Our 11 year old son who had on a collared shirt and tie was far better dressed and behaved than a third of the patrons and he had to get a special exemption to eat there as children generally not allowed. Food was nice and service efficient. Major service failure on part of the hotel was that the couch bed in our room had not been made up at 9.30 when we returned from dinner even though we had the make up room sign on from 6.pm. I was furious as we were all exhausted. I have to say the previous evening my bed had been scattered with rose petals which was such a lovely birthday surprise but the service failure of not making up the couch bed on the 2nd night negated the first. Inconsistent service was a "consistency" throughout our recent stay in South Africa. the vn Collapse

Myself, my partner and the rest of my family (6 of us in total) stayed at the Palace in late-September for only 2 nights. My parents had visited the Palace a few years before for a conference, and said we had to stay here for a couple of nights just to experience the grandness of the hotel and its surrounds. We arrived at the hotel and my jaw hit the floor - it was so big and grand I instantly felt out of place! The rooms were very big and spacious, but also quite run-down. Some electronics in the room did not work. The facilities were good though - the Valley of the Waves was a fun day, and the pool was lovely. The breakfasts were amazing - so much to choose from! But unfortunately, being such a big hotel, we didn't feel the service was very personable, and sometimes drinks and food took a long time to be served. While I'm glad we had a couple of nights there, I don't ever see myself visiting Sun City or the Palace again. It was so over the top it was almost 'cheap'. I understand it's a popular place, and to some people it is an amazing and opulent hotel, however this was just not our style. Collapse
