Great location just by the royal palace, 10 minute walk to Sol, Plaza Mayor and surrounded by traditional Spanish squares full of restaurants and bars. With Grand Via and Plaza Espanya also minutes away. It's right next to Opera subway station too so handy. Especially to and from the airport (although you have to change twice). Reception very polite at check in. Asked for a quiet room, but the highest they could put us was 2nd floor. We were kept awake most the night by the nightclub just along the road. We could clearly hear (and feel!) the music and the loud girls leaving at silly o'clock in the morning weren't very respectful that's for sure. Second night we moved up to the 8th floor and much much better. Could hear it but in the distance. Careful if you have kids (or if you've had a few to drink and getting some fresh air). This isn't UK H&S laws. The windows open fully to a shear drop! Room was typically small but comfortable twin beds. Small bathroom but did the job. First room had a combined bath/shower. Second one didn't have a bath. So ask if you specifically want a bath. Would stay here again. For the location if nothing else. We walked everywhere, so was ideal. Collapse

The hotel is conveniently located to the Metro, tour companies, and Madrid attractions. Breakfast is included and the hotel is economically priced. We stayed in exactly the same room we had in 2011, but were saddened to see that the hotel is not being well maintained: the chair in our room was badly ripped, the bathroom needed some deep cleaning, the wallpaper in the hotel entry was in bad shape. The street noise was exceptionally loud. Collapse

Stayed here for 5 nights for a long weekend break with my wife (her first visit to Madrid). Having looked at earlier reviews I elected to book direct with the hotel and chose one of their 8th floor rooms with a balcony and jacuzzi to add a little sparkle to our trip. The location of this hotel is superb for first (and repeat) visitors being within walking distance of all the main sites and is very close to the beautiful plaza Oriente and Palacio Real area being right next to the Teatro Real opera house and the Plaza Isobel II. Admittedly it is a good 20-25 min walk to the Retiro park and the Prado etc but everything else (including a wander down the Gran Via and stroll to the Teleferica cable car) is less than 15 mins. Madrid is a lively city at night and I have to agree with other reviewers that getting a room on the higher floors is preferred to avoid 'party Madrid' noise (we were there during Halloween when lots of people were out and about until the early hours).. The room wasn't huge but had a good size balcony offering great views, had aircon, jacuzzi, very good shower and a large very comfortable bed. They were having problems with satellite TV feed whilst we were there so very limited TV channel options but we were out mostly and although CNN was the only English channel available some of the Spanish game shows were an absolute hoot! The hotel operates a swipe card entry system to rooms which also gives access to the lifts. Sadly the card readers in the lifts are less than reliable and this can give rise to some 'exciting' motionless moments in the rather small lifts! Booking early with the hotel gives you access to good 'early-bird' discounts and a free buffet breakfast which is nothing to write home about but there is sufficient variety to find something to keep you going until your main meal later!. Apart from location the absolutely best feature of the hotel is the front desk staff who are extremely friendly, helpful and so forgiving of my very average Spanish I could have easily hugged them! The hotel also runs a street cafe/restaurant on the ground floor which is reasonable for the area and handy for quick snacks and drinks while planning trips or resting after a long day out but frankly there are better and more interesting places to eat (please see my review on the nearby Algarabia which less than 3 mins walk away and an amazing experience). There is a musical evening dining experience in the basement of the Opera Cafe which I did not try as it looked quite expensive and the menus didn't excite me but other reveiwers seem to have enjoyed it and it it is handy for a late meal and short trip back to bed! Overall, fantastic location, reasonably priced, clean (but some parts look a bit tired and need a bit of decorative TLC) breakfast ok but not worth paying extra for and great super polite and helpful front desk staff. I would definitely stay there again if the price was right. Oh, by the way, they do reply to email requests very quickly. We asked if we could have the corner room so my wife could enjoy some great views on her visit and...they obliged. Collapse
