During 2 weeks vacation in Portugal we stayed 3 nights in Portimao at Oceano Atlantico Apartments. As the name suggests, these apartments are good for families with children. The rooms are big enough with one bedroom with a large bed and a living room with a sofa, a tv and a corner with a fully equipped kitchen if you want to prepare food and to wash during your vacation. You have a balcony with a table and two chairs and a large parking. The bathroom is OK; we asked shower gel and soap or bath gel for two persons but the receptionist told us that there are only for the first day and what we received must be enough for both, than we have to buy. After we asked for a second time we received it in the third day but only for one person. Cleanliness was OK, but A/C in both rooms doesn't cooling too much and even we asked several times to be repaired nothing happened. Fortunately we are not sitting in the room during day time and at night we slept with open windows. The hotel is on 15-20 minutes walk far from the beach but Praia da Rocha is a wonderful beach where you can stay all day for sunbathe, for swimming and where you have a lot of cafe's and bar's. The hotel has a pool but it is a shame to stay there when exist so beautiful beaches. Don't forget: Portimao is a good location if you have car and want to visit the others resorts! Collapse

Visiting the Oceano Atlantico for the last 5 years with my family and it never disappoints. Staff are extremely friendly and very helpful on reception, house keeping and everyone else that I had any dealings with in the Hotel. It has great facilities. Rooms are comfortable and location is great. Shopping ten minutes walk away and taxi cost about €5. The Aqua shopping centre is not far either for approx €7 in taxi. The strip of shops, restaurants and beach is about 15 minute walk in other direction and is very busy with families and has a friendly atmosphere with nightly candy floss, ice cream, sweet, clothes and shoe stalls to wander around until late into the night. It's a perfect location for us as a family as we can relax at the beach or pool, have a huge selection of restaurants and cafes and find everything to suit your needs. I look forward to returning. Just back from one week in the Oceano Atlantico Apartamentos. (1st to 8th Aug 2017) Family of four two adults and two teenagers (14 & 17) We were “upgraded” to this “four star” hotel with half board after our original hotel was overbooked. This hotel would struggle make three stars. Reception area is large and roomy, reception staff friendly. The lifts are very small and very slow. Apartment Our superior one bed apartment on the first floor was quite large with a large balcony. Kitchen is well fitted out, fridge freezer, cooker, dishwasher and washing machine flat screen tv. There is an air con unit on the balcony, quite ugly and the exhaust from this unit blows across the balcony which makes it uncomfortable to use the balcony. Beds are comfortable for hotel beds. Air con units in the rooms are noisy. No hot water after 2 showers. (4 pax apartment) WIFI is good. The came to clean the room twice after 6pm while one of our party was in the shower. (not enough cleaning staff) Restaurant Went to the restaurant on the first evening to get our half board dinner to be informed this did not include the a la carte menu. Only the buffet was available. When enquiring about the a la carte menu, we would have to wait 30 mins for anything to be served. We opted for the buffet it was just about acceptable (lukewarm chicken curry). We dined out every evening after that. Breakfast had a good selection of fruit and cereals but the bacon and sausage are inedible (all fat). Juices a are sugary soft drinks. Lunch was just about acceptable very little choice.. Bar. The bar has seating for 35 to 40 people very small. When there is entertainment in the bar there is no room for people to sit. No atmosphere. They allow smoking in the bar. (which is illegal in the EU). As the bar is open to the restaurant the smoke drifts into the restaurant. The bar entertainment ?? Magic show lasted 30 mins. Guy playing a keyboard and singing very loud. (The same staff serving the bar late at night are serving breakfast the next morning) Pool area. This is a disaster area, if you like early morning sun forget about it. The sun does not reach the pool until at least 12:30pm. There are 60 sunbeds and 8 sun umbrellas which are all gone very quickly. The pool is small with very abrasive walls and floor. There is a security guard on the pool all day if you are away from your sunbed for more than 30 mins. He will remove all your belongings. While I don’t agree with people putting towels on sunbed and going off for the day, there should be a sign or notice to say they will be removed after 30 mins. The kids pool has no shade or sun protection. Not allowed to bring food or drink from your room to the pool, has to be purchased from the pool bar. The pool bar has no tables or chairs (not enough room for them) if you want to get a drink or snack you have to take it back to your sunbed. The pool is next to a busy road there is a lot of traffic noise. No pool entertainment at all. Location. A good 25 to 30 min walk downhill to the centre of the main strip a bit of a struggle coming back. They don’t have enough staff in this hotel. Praia da Rocha is a lovely resort, excellent beaches lots of café’s, bar’s and shopping. We will return to Praia da Rocha but never to the Oceano Atlantico Apartamentos. Collapse

We have just returned from a two week holiday at Oceano Atlantico and loved it! We are a family of four and the kids are 10 and 15. We went self-catering, as we always do, as we don't like to be tied to specific meal times. Our apartment was HUGE! With a massive wraparound balcony (room 530 if anyone is interested). I have seen some negative comments on here about there being no toaster or kettle, no there isn't, but if that ruins your holiday, then you really need to get out more! There is a microwave, in which water can be boiled, or if you want to go real 'old school', boil some water on the hob! Likewise with the lack of toaster, there is a grill in the oven, yes it takes a little longer, but you're on holiday, chill out, what's the rush! Anyway, pool is fine, sun gets on to it around midday, plus no problems with with anyone reserving beds with towels and clearing off, as Victor, aka the pool police, runs a tight ship in that respect and it is hilarious to watch if anyone is gone longer than 45 mins. He whips up their towel and puts it behind reception, we had no problem getting beds and they have more than the photos shown on here, also they are newer sun beds that the photos show on here. The beach is around 20 mins walk with all the shops/restaurants etc along the strip at the front. Walk back to the hotel is uphill, so we would treat ourselves to a cab if we were feeling lazy (around 4euros). The staff were all pleasant enough and hotel is pretty central, yes it's on a roundabout next to a main road but I did not notice any traffic noise. I would happily stay here again. Collapse

There is nothing good I can say about 2 star accommodations. Absolutely filthy sofa, complete with an array of stains. The bathroom...OMG! I don't think they changed the sheets once in the 4 days we were there. Had to turn the air conditioner off cause it was so noisy. Thankfully we only slept there cause we didn't want to be there. This dreadful place 25 minutes from the beach was Transat Holidays idea of a replacement for the Jupiter Hotel at the beach. What a bad joke. Collapse
