Just back from a weekendin the oakwood hotel with the husband . Our room was spacious with a double and a single. It has all the usual facilities. The hotel bar is modern and the food served is very nice. The staff are very friendly and helpful, particularly Breda in the bar and May on reception. All in all its a lovely hotel for a break or as a Base for exploring the west. The only quibble I have is that they advertise the hotel restaurant but it isn't open for anything except breakfast and a car very on Sundays. Even when you make a reservation for dinner it's not made clear that you'll be eating in the bar. It's misleading, but that's the only quibble I have. Collapse

Myself and my Husband took advantage of a deal on the Hotel's website for 2 nights stay with Bed and Breakfast and 1 Dinner. Everything was flawless, the food was beautiful, the room was perfect and beautifully decorated. The Staff - Dympna on Reception and Breeda in Sophies Bar were so welcoming and warm, really made you feel at home. We checked in at 9pm on Friday evening and went to our room which was lovely and toasty. Very clean and tidy as you would expect. Our room had a Double and a Single Bed in it (Room 224). The television had a good few channels, reception on the TV wasn't perfect but that didn't bother us in the slightest. The Bathroom was gorgeous, compact yet had everything we needed - probably the nicest shower I've ever experienced. The water was warm immediately and the rainfall shower head was luxurious! The handheld shower head was also pretty amazing with a 'mist' setting on it! We went for Food in Sophies Bar (Hotel Bar) at about 9.15pm - the food stops at 9.30pm. We were seated straight away and ordered food which came out within 10 minutes. I had a Burger and Chips and my Husnad had the Pork Belly. The Burger was lovely, nothing special but everything you would expect from Bar Food except it was even tastier. The Pork Belly was gorgeous and tender. The next day we had Breakfast served to our room. We called the Front Desk and ordered what we wanted and it was delivered by a lovely friendly guy within 10 minutes. Breakfast was delicious, I had Scrambled Egg and White Pudding and my Husband had a full fry. We then went to go to the Cliffs of Moher (Just under an hours drive from the hotel) but when we got to our car we realised our battery seemed to gone in the car. I rang a local Garage (Tony's Auto repair on the Link Road in Shanon). Within 30 minutes a guy came up to us in the Hotel Car Park and got our Battery going again and wouldn't take a penny off us! So lovely! The Cliffs were amazing and I would highly recommend them! That evening we took advantage of the 3 Course Meal included in our package and sat down in Sophies Bar at about 8.45pm. The bar was lively at this stage and a Piano Man was setting up! For Starters we had the Fish Cake and my Husband had the Chowder. Both were delicious. The Fish cake was a little bit on the dry side but the Lemon Wedge provided soon fixed that. For Mains my Husband had the Sea Bass (He loved it) and I just had Fish and Chips. The Fish and Chips were very nice, it's a standard dish so not much you can do with it but it was present beautifully and served fresh and hot! For dessert he had Ice Cream and I had the Lemon Meringue Pie. The Meringue wasn't hard which I know is how some people prefer it (Like me haha) but it was still very tasty and served with Ice Cream and Cream. We stayed in the bar then through the night. The Piano Man was very enjoyable, taking requests and seemed to have a great relationship with the locals. Throughout our Meal and Drinks, we were looked after perfectly by Breeda all night! She was a real stand out member of staff throughout our stay although all staff we encountered were very nice. If I had to say one slightly negative thing about the Hotel it's this - and please realize it's really a non issue but if I'm too be fully honest in this review I must say it....I wasn't a big fan of their Orange Juice served with breakfast hahahahaha. But that's genuinely the only 'negative' thing I have to say about this place! Overall we got a fantastically priced package direct on the hotel website. All communication with the hotel before arrival were dealt with quickly, efficiently and with a friendly tone (thanks May). The Hotel location was perfect to access by car. Rooms and Food were perfect. 10/10 for what we paid. We would definitely stay again if we needed somewhere in the area and would recommend to all. Collapse

Spent 3 nights in the hotel. The building is beautiful from the outside and the reception area was lovely - glad to see that they make no apologies for the fact that it was Christmas time. The hotel itself is a bit rambling with passages leading off passages and each one decorated and carpeted differently making it feel disjointed. The room was a decent size and tastefully furnished but was in need of maintenance. The air conditioner did not provide heat. The shower was intermittently hot and cold (not pleasant on a cold day) and the bar fridge didn't appear to be working. Except for these issues it was a present stay and just what I expected.
