Nice hotel, made better by its location. It's really close to the highlights of Dublin including Trinity College, Grafton St, etc. Only downside is if you have a street facing room it's a bit loud, recommend bringing earplugs.

The location of the hotel is great. It is within walking distance of the city centre and all the fantastic sights Dublin has to offer. The hotel is however, a little tired and in need of modernisation. Our room was comfortable enough and comes with all the basics you need for a few nights away. That is about as good as it gets; for example we were lucky the weather was good enough to have the only window in the room, a velux, open to minimise the distinctive musty smell emanating from the bathroom especially after its use. The culprit being an extraction system that either gave up working years ago or is just inadequate. And that pretty much sums up the problem with this particular hotel; tired and very much in need of updating and modernisation. Unfortunately the bar and restaurant was closed for refurbishment. According to the laminated posters around the hotel the closure was due to 'unforseen circumstances', which seemed a little surprising as the lamination of the posters sort of gave an impression of permanency! We didn't have much interaction with the staff during our stay and certainly the fact the bar and Oscar's Restaurant was closed wasn't communicated at the time of booking or during our actual check in! This was disappointing as we paid €380 for 3 nights for bed only! We didn't try the hotel breakfast so we can't comment on its quality but at €10 pre booked or €13 normal we decided to try other and frankly better options towards the city centre. There are plenty of excellent establishments nearby who serve reasonably priced breakfasts so it turned out to be a good decision in the end. There are a couple of sister hotels very close by who do have bar and dining facilities and in fairness, are open to all Mont Clare guests. We tried the bar areas in both of these hotels (The Davenport and Alexandria) and found them to modern with attentive and helpful bar staff. We would like to return to Dublin but with so many other hotels to choose from wouldn't return to this one which fell someway short. Collapse
Would definitely return

I spent one night here last week and was more than happy with my stay. The outside and the lobby were spotless with gleaming brass bannisters and highly polished wood. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, happy to respond to enquiries and book taxis. When I asked if there was a vending machine in the hotel the receptionist explained that there wasn't and then went to the trouble of phoning the nearby sister properties to check if they had one. I thought this was excellent customer service, thank you Norbert. Our twin room was a good size with attractive furnishings and a large tv. The beds were very comfortable with lots of pillows and fluffy quilts. The bathroom was small but well laid out and was absolutely immaculate. I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel as well as in recommending it to others. Collapse

We stayed here last night when attending a concert in The 3 arena and it was about a 25 minute walk. Our room was very very quiet as we didn't hear anything all night . Our stay was comfortable .The hotel as parking nearby for 12€ for 24 hours , very secure car park. Just to give abit of advice , don't loose your keycard , as we left both ours in our room when leaving, told reception this when leaving for the evening and was told it was okay . When returning and getting a new card , the gentleman on reception just dropped into conversation they charge 50€ for lost hotel cards due to the inconvenience. Ideal location for a quiet stay in Merrion square . Collapse

Stayed March 29-30,2017 The main thing about this hotel is location! is situated in the heart of the old Georgian district of Dublin and is easily accessible to all the sites south of the Liffey. Museums are at your doorstep, as is Trinity College (Book of Kells), Merrion Square, St Stephens Green, Grafton Street, and the Temple Bar District. Went to the Gaiety Theatre the night we arrived with no need for a cab. The hotel itself is showing its age a bit, but is clean and rooms were cozy and well appointed. Needed bottled water at night and the desk clerk was happy to oblige. The bar is closed for renovations, but they own a property, just across the street, which has a wonderful bar as well. The breakfast buffet was typical, however, staff was attentive and would bring you things if they weren't on the buffet table - so all you had to do was ask. If ever in Dublin again, I would definitely considered staying at the St. Clare! Collapse
