My two grown children and I just spent three nights at the O'Callaghan Davenport in a superior triple room on the 6th floor. We arrived in Dublin early and went to the hotel to ask if we could leave our luggage there until check-in. They allowed us to check in early which was a huge help to us and very much appreciated. The full irish breakfast was delicious. EVERY staff member from the front desk to the dining staff to the housekeeping staff were kind, efficient and very helpful. I highly recommend this well located hotel. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!! Collapse

We stayed at the hotel 5 nights when we first arrived, in a a room on the 6th floor overlooking the city and the Wicklow mountains in the far distance. The king bed was very comfortable, the bedding fresh, and the bathroom immaculate, that said the furniture had the look of old solid dorm furniture.(thus the 4 stars) We were told that the hotel will be closing in November for a re-do. The public rooms and the lobby (part of an old church with a beautiful and unique entrance) are really beautiful in a low key elegant, comfortable way. The breakfast room is large and has big windows, a really wonderful staff, and a vast choice of Irish breakfast treats. I did have to ask for porridge as it was made only on request, and it was simply delicious. While we felt some of the front desk staff were not as helpful as they could have been, (often appeared bored when asked about public transportation) or gave the incorrect info re the time it should take to get through security at the airport for Americans ( one should allow 3 hours NOT 2 !)! Thank goodness we didn`t listen to her. That said, there were two outstanding members of the front desk team, a young woman named Jane, I believe, who was welcoming and gracious, and Mr. Rodriguez . If there was ever anyone who was professional, gracious, kind ,and well informed he is the man ! I hope to see him at the front desk when we return to this lovely hotel and small but mighty city. On our return to the hotel for three nights before we left Ireland we had to accept an "executive suite" room as the hotel was full. Well, the only thing executive about it was a huge desk.....not much else...and it overlooked a pub/restaurant where people huge around outside til 2pm.....thus no open windows for us, some thing we had loved in our other room....fresh air and sea gull sounds to wake up to. One last thing, the hotel is very close to the National Art Gallery, library, and the history museum as well as the AIRLINK bus drop off and pick up spots, and also the Pearse station and the back entrance to Trinity College if one wants to avoid all the touristy traffic on Nassau Street. Tip, If you decide to leave tips for the people who clean your room everyday, you might consider putting it in an envelope marked with instructions to the Head Housekeeper to divide the money as per days each maid actually tidied your room....as staffing does change. This seemed fair to us anyway. Collapse

This hotel's location is great and the staff are very friendly but the rooms are in dire need of renovations. The towel rack is falling off the walls, tiles are broken, the wood is extremely worn. The rooms are really run down, and the wifi is awful in the rooms. You have to go to the lobby or bar to get a good signal. We were able to get a signal if we stood next to our door. I would not recommend this hotel until they do a complete renovation of there rooms! It is such a shame that they can't put money back into the rooms. Collapse

Our group of 5 adults stayed here in May for one night. Good location to catch Hop-on Hop-off not far and the Book of Kells is only about a 2 block walk. The down side is there are not a large selection of places to eat close by. The hotel does have a restaurant inside that is not bad. The rooms were fairly large and the beds were comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful. If you have a rent car, the parking is a distance away from the hotel and the streets around the hotel go in crazy directions, so be sure to get good directions on how to get back to the hotel, once you have parked.
