Got two triple rooms for a night out in Dublin. Great value and great service. The staff were lovely. The rooms are nicer than we expected. Maybe starting to date a little though but for what we paid more than happy.

My sister and I booked our trip to Dublin through Expedia - both the flight and hotel as a gift for our mum. The hotel is in a great location; we utilised the 757 Airlink bus and it took no more than 30 minutes to get to Lower Merrion Street and the hotel was right next to the bus stop. A return ticket is 10 Euros and the return stop is less than 2 minutes away from the hotel. The Hotel is beautiful from the outside and quite grand at the entrance also. The reception staff were very welcoming and check-in was easy. Unfortunately when we arrived at our room we had been given a twin room with a camp bed as opposed to the triple room we had booked. This was not at all suitable for 3 adults, particularly as both my sister and I are quite tall. We immediately went back to reception and enquired about the room we had been allocated. The lady informed us they were fully booked and this was the only room available and got the manager on duty. He offered us a drink on the house whilst he looked into the issue. The Manager did his best to make it up to us however we still had to spend our first night in this room which was crowded and the camp bed was extremely uncomfortable. I can't fault any of the staff on duty for their efforts to deal with the situation as they were great. Our room was changed the next day to the triple room we had originally booked and this was much more specious and comfortable. I think this hotel is a little dated and is more of a 3 star overall. The rooms could do with a touch up, they still have the old style hairdryers on the wall that serve no purpose at all. We were given a free breakfast as part of the apology for the room situation and the breakfast was lovely, a good selection and all well cooked/prepared. The drinks in the bar however were not so good. The prosecco tasted like a cheap cider and the mojito tasted like lime and soda water and not much else and at 10 Euros you would expect a little more. In terms of tourist attractions the hotel is well located, very close to Trinity College. We walked everywhere and felt safe walking back to the hotel at night. Collapse

This was our second stay at the Davenport and we will most likely not return. The best thing about this hotel is it's proximity to the excellent Gingerman pub next door which is a fine spot to grab lunch. It is a good location very near Trinity which you'll discover as you must walk all the way around the campus to get anywhere. The rooms are of reasonable standard but are showing their age. The TV is small and old with only a few Saorview channels with bad reception. This is despite their website which promised pay-per-view movies. After a busy day out we were disappointed to find the bar closing down at 10pm on a Friday night. The register was closed and no crisps were to be had. Being we were wrecked and only hoping for a pint, packet of crisps, and a movie this really made the hotel feel like it was for geriatrics. Collapse

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. The welcome was great and extremely efficient. The room was a nice size and plenty of space but looking very tired in parts in the bedroom and the bathroom. Not all plug sockets worked either. Also received a note under the door on arrival saying there would be no hot water from 10am to 4pm due to maintenance, so not good if you wanted to take advantage of the 12pm check out and have a late shower. Had a night cap in the bar, not sure the barmaid knew what she was doing really, took about 15 mins to make a mojito and hot chocolate and brandy, which was cold on arrival and took about 2 seconds to drink. Breakfast was different. I was pointed to a table near the toast machine. I waited about 5 minutes and eventually got up and asked the waitress for some tea and butter for the table. Self service, which is great but the items were not being restocked very quickly. I had to ask for bread and bacon to be replaced and fruit, and it was only 9.45am. I had scrambled egg and as I sat down to eat it, noticed there was a hair in my food, definately not mine as I had showered and my hair was still wet and tied back. I gave my plate to the waitress who just looked at it and said Oh! Somebody then burnt their toast so the fire door was opened and it was extremely cold as I was located next to it. I was not approached by any staff at all to ask if everything was ok or if I would like more tea, however, surrounding tables were. Really disappointing. Check out was good again and luggage left and taken care of swiftly. Not sure I would return or recommend, which is a shame. Collapse
