Went to Novotel Stevenage and ZERO STAFF. (Also no customers) “Ryan” eventually drags his self to reception and tells me to go look for staff in the restaurant. I suggested I didn’t come here to play hunt the staff! He then waited 2 minutes and decided to tell me he didn’t like being told off. Welcome to the real world Ryan. Take some responsibility you work in a service industry. Be proud to serve, do it well or work in a factory. And FYI. “Feedback breakfast of champions”. But then I suspect the only thing you have ever championed is moaning ! Collapse

Hotel was lovely - you can tell it's been refurbished! Lovely room, comfy bed etc. I was checked in at reception by a girl whose social skills could do with some re-engagement! Hardly spoke, looked miserable, totally unresponsive. I specifically asked the girl for a quiet room away from any noise as I was a very light sleeper... low and behold, i was placed in a room with people either side of me who were loud. Worst nights sleep in a while! Restaurant staff were wonderful, and food was gorgeous! Would definitely come back... just a shame about the receptionist! Collapse

Everything about our stay from start to finish was just horrible. I feel as if we stumbled upon a real life Fawlty Towers. Arrived after a long drive from up north. To 2 receptionists. I had 100% booked 2 rooms... room 1 was for 2 adults 2 children and room 2 for 2 adults 1 child. Was immediately and abruptly told Id booked both rooms for just 1 adult in each. So of course they wanted more money. I quite rightly stuck up for myself...I know 100% the right occupants were added into each room. The manager was horrifically rude to me. When I politely said we would be happy to cancel the booking and go elsewhere rather than pay more...He told us to go then. Just as we were about to leave, he told us cancellation cost was full price of room. So we had no choice but to stay. Manager "contis" was unbelievably rude and bordering aggressive. Seriously didnt want to stay but had no choice. The rooms were poorly cleaned. Grimey fingerprints on all surfaces. Fixtures and fittings broken. Patched plasterwork. And the seperate coffin sized toilet made me feel physically ill. Imagine using the toilet and having to use 2 door handles before getting to the sink to wash your hands. The toilet and shower door handles must be swimming in germs. Absolutley gross. Lift was out of order but no prior notification..appauling for a party with 2 disabled members. 2 bathtowels in a room for 4 people. A tiny tube of shampoo and shower gel for 4 people. Our room was situated next to stairwell door which was not closing properly. Due to been hung poorly it banged against the frame. This just went on allllll night. Time after time after time. Bang bang bang bang everytime someone came through it. To make matters worse the room opposite decided to hold a party at 1.30am which was still going at 4am loud music and shouting. To be fair though when I finally got dressed and went to the night porter he sorted it within 2 minutes. The only member of staff who had any customer care at all. The following morning the hotel was filthy and dangerous. A night of christmas partys had seriously taken its toll. Cake all over the carpets, dirty stains on tables, piles of glasses on the floor outside and worse still, smashed glasses all over outside the entrance. I then overheard the female receptionist complaining that the hotel was so dirty because the cleaning team on duty were "the foreigners" disgusting racism from the hotels own staff. I could take no more. It was a stay from hell. I implore anyone to avoid this place like the plague. The budget hotel chains beat this place 100% ( and message to the management, please dont reply to this offering apologies that our stay didnt meet your usual standards, no apologising can make better the aggression I was shown by management upon check in. And certainly no apologies can make better how your cocky receptionist told my autistic daughter to "put her shoes back on" in a domineering manner whilst she was in the middle of sensory overload) I do not want to hear it!!!! Lovely modern hotel, great rooms very well appointed. Very good location next to A1M and close Knebworth house. Reception very efficient and friendly. Breakfast was simple but adequate and offered everything I usually have without any frills.
