I needed a place in New York at the last minute, and got an excellent deal here. The room, a corner, was comfortably larger than most tiny NY rooms. The bed was comfortable, desk nice-sized for working, and the bathroom small but renovated. The elevator's small relative to the size of the hotel but the waits aren't too bad. There's a microwave and small fridge in the room but it's time to upgrade the coffee makers! The location is great, across the street from major subway lines downtown and with both a diner and good cafe steps away. Front desk and bell staff were cordial and helpful. I will stay here again. Biggest plus is the room size, and covenient if you want to be in the Upper West Side

I have stayed in lots of 3* hotels in Manhattan. I usually stay near Times Square because it is so central, and I need to get around the city a lot for my work. This time I stayed at the Hotel Newton. I really liked the size of the room, which was way bigger than the rooms I have stayed at elsewhere (unless you are on the edge of Manhattan or further). It is also literally a stone's throw from the 96th St station of the 1,2 or 3 lines, which is very convenient if you want to go downtown (or uptown I suppose), but it isn't great if you need to get to the Upper East Side - as the only public transport aside from cabs is the 96 bus, which is great, but very slow. There was a fridge and microwave oven in my room, which is great if you are staying a week or so and want to save money and time. Another great thing is that this hotel is only a few blocks from Central Park, wonderful if you want to walk or run. The negatives were the smell as you enter the lobby - it smelled strongly of soap, or some cleaning product, and the single lift (elevator) which usually is fine, but sometimes means you wait a while. As I mentioned above if you need to get to the Upper East Side use a cab. Collapse
Clean, but not great

Hotel is clean and in a good location. Few minuses during our stay: 1) You can't control heat in the room. It's either "on" which means it gets extremely hot like a sauna, or completely off. There's no way to control the temperature. 2) We got a room that was supposed to be double queen. But our beds were clearly double, not queen. When we got to the room I called front desk to ask about it, they said no, our beds are queen. I decided maybe I'm wrong and let it go. But when we went to sleep we could really tell these are not queen beds, they were much more narrow. Since we only stayed for 2 nights we decided not to bring it up again, but it was disappointing that a room with double beds was presented as double queen. Collapse
Not fancy but good price

OK so this isn't a fancy hotel. We got a deal on Trippet visor for $149+ tax, which was the lowest you could possibly get in New York City for the weekend we were there. It's on the upper West side and right next-door to a great diner. The room was a queen suite-- an upgrade from the clerk at check-in who was very nice. Size of the room is large for New York (because it was a suite there was an entire sitting area). Nice coffee maker nice desk, teeny bathroom, but good products and a hair dryer. Bedding and pillows were comfy. Wifi was free and efficient. I'd say the only real problem is there was no light, because our room faced an alleyway and everything was blocked off. It felt confining -- there was no light at all coming in. We were on the second floor and took the stairs in and out which is really quick and we didn't have to wait for the elevator. All in all a bargain hotel. Collapse
Nice little boutique on Broadway

This hotel is cozy, from the unassuming entrance between 94 & 95 streets to the very snug rooms, which are smallish even by NYC standards. But traveling solo and doing little else in my hotel room besides sleeping and changing clothes, it was perfect! The staff are helpful and courteous, and I especially appreciate their closet off the lobby specifically for pre-checkin or post-checkout luggage storage. In terms of location, it's great. On the relatively quiet Upper West Side, the Newton is close to several interesting eateries, bodegas and coffeehouses. And to get anywhere else in the City, there's a 1/2/3 (red) train stop just a few steps away at 96th Street. To top it all off, the price is right. I definitely recommend this hotel. Just be sure you don't pass by on Broadway and miss it! Collapse
