The location is the reason I only give it 3 stars is the location. I personally wouldn't stay again for only that reason. As a hotel and staff I would give it 5 stars but for location for a tourist, I would actually give it only three. While I keep hearing Brooklyn is the "it" place to be, we kept asking people what there is to do around the hotel and their only answers were restaurants and bars. We are tourists wanting to do tourist things and found ourselves going into Manhattan and spending all day there because there wasn't anything interesting to keep us in Brooklyn. The hotel was lovely and clean. The beds were super comfortable and for a Platinum the concierge level was well stocked with snacks and drinks. Breakfast had nice offerings. I know they did serve food in the evenings too for Platinum but I was always in Manhattan for the evenings. I did get upgraded to a really big executive suite on the 4th floor (view was of an inner courtyard roof). To double beds in the bedroom and a giant living room. Perfect for 3 travels (one being a loud snorer). The staff was great and the bar had great food (get the Gouda Mac & Cheese) and made tasty drinks (Ray made a killer Mojito). That all being said, the only tourist thing that is convenient from the hotel is the path to start walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. I would rather style in Manhattan when in New York to do more tourist type things. Collapse

I have always had high expectations for Hotel service, since I worked in Hotels for 15 years. I don't often write reviews because the good service I receive is expected. This past stay I was blown away by Jessica from the M Lounge. I was catching up with my mom in the lounge and Jessica was setting up the afternoon buffet of appetizers. They displayed the vegetables in these 4 cup glass measuring cups. I mentioned to my mother that I should get one of those as the one I had isn't big enough. We exchanged some pleasantries with Jessica but that was the extent of the conversation. When my mother and I were leaving we said goodbye to Jessica and asked me if I was coming back, to which I replied no. She said to wait a second and she went to the back. When she came back she handed me a bag with a clean 4 cup measuring cup and said "Merry Christmas "! I was so touched and taken aback by her attention to detail and out of the box thinking. In reality that measuring cup cost less than $10 but the impression that was left in myself and family is priceless. Kudos to the management team that empowers your employees to go above and beyond. I was in both Front Office operations and most recently in Human Resources for hotels in NYC. I would hire Jessica in a second! Thank you for a memorable experience! Collapse

Here are two notes I sent to the hotel after our recent stay there . Thank you! Thank you! Dear Austin, We wanted to drop you a quick note and thank you again for all of the hospitality and service you provided us this past Friday – Monday morning when we were at your hotel to watch our home town Minnesota Golden Gopher BB team. It is refreshing to see the attitude of “what can we do to assist our guests” in the best way that you can. There were lots of people waiting on rooms long after normal check in besides us, but in your own unique way of talking with us, following up with, and doing what you could do to help us made us feel very special. I can’t tell you how thankful we were when you said you had a room for us and upgraded us to a suite on a quiet floor at 7:30 that first night. My wife had been at work all day and night the day before and had less than an hour of sleep and was exhausted so you saved the day. Then you offered to make our day better with dinner or breakfast the next day for our inconvenience which I know you would not have had to do. I would also like to commend you by specifically acknowledging us several times over the next three days when you saw us in the hotel and asking us how we were doing and if you could assist with anything. We just want to say thank you for “extraordinary customer service” and a “job well done” from the bottom of our hearts! Marriott Hotels will be at the top of our list for future trips because of people like you. Your attention to detail and service remind me of an old slogan from earlier in my career which still hold true today and goes something like this. “In our business customers are King! They make our paydays possible”. Thank you and keep up the great work by making a difference in people’s lives each and every day. Best wishes, Dean and Heide Miller from Minnesota Additional Thanks! Dear Santosh, I just copied you tonight on a thank you note that I sent to Austin Jones for the excellent job of customer service he provided to my wife and me along with several other members from our Minnesota booster group this past weekend. I would also like to recognize another one of your staff and that is restaurant manager, Richard Schloss too. Richard also went above and beyond the call of duty in making us comfortable and also following up with Austin and his team on preparing a room for us. Like Austin, Richard also made a point of following up with us several times when he noticed us the hotel to make sure we were doing well. It a world where it can seem the attitude can be “what is in it for me” or “it’s all about me” if is refreshing to see the art of good customer service is still alive and well. Both Richard and Austin are outstanding employees and they have left an lasting impression on us not only about the service and attention to detail at your hotel but for the Marriott family of hotels too. We commend you and your staff for a job well done! Thank you and a special thank you to both Richard and Austin too! Best wishes, Dean and Heide Miller from Minnesota Collapse

I have stayed at this hotel, by now, for probably over a 100 nights! It is my preferred hotel in New York. The front desk is very friendly, especially with Beverly who goes out of her way to be helpful. The reasons for my staying here are several. The first is the location. It is on the 4/5 (green) and 1/2/3 (red lines) in the front of the hotel. The F (orange) and A/C (blue) hotels are just behind the hotel. The R (which I normally do not use) is a block or two away. My experience is that in the workday, the subway is a much better choice of getting to a place than a cab or uber. The NYC subway also runs 24 hours a day. The second is that the rooms are large rather than Manhattan small. Staying for more than two days at a time, space is useful for me. They are also well soundproofed. The hotel has two wings. I tend to prefer the old one because the gym on the 4th floor is quite good. As far as places to eat, this is Brooklyn Heights and so the neighborhood has a wide range. It is gentrifying at a fast pace. So some of the more ethnic places like a Caribbean take out or a Chinese noodle place place are no longer there. Collapse
