Location is the only positive. The rest is all below expectation and subpar. Would not return.

We stayed here Dec 16-20 for vacation. Check in was fine. When we got to our room, the bathroom had a bad smell. Then the next morning we we woken up by slamming doors and the water pipes squealing from the room next door taking a shower. The next day, the door handle on the washroom door fell off. Although I left tips for housekeeping everyday, on our last day we didn't even get an extra roll of toilet paper. I had to call down to the front desk and ask someone to send it. I did mention all these issues to the front desk staff before I checked out and received no response. Ironically, while I was waiting for our taxi to the airport I heard another guest complain about the same issues. The bottom line here is that this hotel has a nice location (close to mostly everything) BUT the rest is not any good. The in house cafe is super expensive. You will have to pay for asking them to store your luggage. My recommendation to other travellers. As a longtime Hilton honors member, I expected the best from Hilton but did not receive it. They even had the nerve to try and sell me a prepaid return package with the Hilton Club. Collapse

We come for a medical conference every year. The location is amazing. Just a few blocks from Rockefeller Center, Saks, the beautiful Christmas tree, Central Park, Radio City Music Hall and Times Square. Really, the location is prime. There is nearby subway access and plenty of cabs too. The staff are very accommodating. Yes, I agree with other travelers. The check in took too long. There are numerous stations, but only 50% staffed. There will often be 8-10 people in line as you check in. The HHonors line moves maybe a little faster, maybe. The housekeeping staff were awesome, smiling constantly and very helpful. They always greeted you and I did not see a cellphone once in 5 days from anyone affiliated with the hotel! The conference rooms are very comfortable, the food and beverage excellent. I saw them checking in with the conference organizers throughout the event to make sure that all was running well. The rooms themselves, at least the ones we have been in, were very tired. Cracked light switch plates, towel racks hanging on by sheer will power. The shower curtains could be changed a bit more frequently to avoid some of the mustiness. I understand that the hotel is constantly renovating and updating. I look forward to when the rooms will be completed. I would still stay here based on the wonderful location. Maybe ask for a room not on floor 39. Let’s see if other travelers can help too and pinpoint some of the nicer and newer floors. Collapse

We had a room on the 35th floor, we found it to be quite small, but had a good use of space and awesome lighting. We didn't feel claustrophobic at all, which some city hotels can leave you feeling. We had a line at check in, then we had a line at the elevator to get to our floor, then had to walk to the end of a long corridor. It turns out the battery on our door did not work, which rendered our room key useless. We were tired and out of energy and desire to trek all the way back down the long elevators and now to an even more crowded front desk (with all of our luggage). I found a phone near the elevator bank and called the front desk, who were very polite and transferred me to security. He came right away and initially wanted us to wait while he obtained a metal key for our room. After realizing how long that would take he asked if we wanted another room. He left for a short while and came back to invite us into another room on the same floor. This was much faster. He let us in right away, then went back to the lobby and he himself brought up our new set of card keys. He also brought us a voucher for free dinner in their restaurants. That was really thoughtful and appreciated from these two suburban parents from NH! We used our voucher on the breakfast buffet, which ended up being more expensive than a dinner would have been- it was $48 per person for breakfast! That is a lot! The food was excellent and we were thankful for the Stonyfield Smoothies to go, which we had later while out and were able to make it all the way until dinner we were so full from that great meal! Only complaint about the room was that it was somewhat loud with this noise that sounded like a snow plow scraping the pavement (it was not one) over and over every few minutes. I think it almost could have been a toilet flush? I turned up the fan on our thermostat and was finally able to fall asleep. It was also really hot in our room. We turned our room down and down until it was 67 degrees but it always read 70 degrees. We were almost too hot to sleep and woke several times because of that. The valet parking was convenient to have, it was $70 per day and cars were parked onsite under in a garage. Our car was delivered to us measuring a temp of 60 degrees (when it was 25 degrees out) so it must have been parked way underground! Ha! Lovely hotel, loved the executive room access for the occasional soft drink or hot chocolate! Collapse

Great location for a hotel, especially for tourists. Within walking distance of the theater district and literally dozens of very good restaurants, this hotel is confident of its captive audience. Arriving to this very large mid-Manhattan building, there was no doorman or bell person to be seen. We struggled with our luggage to the front desk, where there was a long line waiting to check-in, with only two clerks processing arrivals and departures. The HiltonHonors check-in line was just as long and slow. We finally checked in, then struggled with our luggage (6 pieces) to the elevators and arrived to our rather small and very basic room. Noisy, as most New York hotel rooms, temperature control was inadequate, but the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small, with minimal amenities, but the shower was god. Lighting throughout the room, but especially in the bathroom was pathetic. The hotel has only one restaurant and the evening we arrived, it was closed for a private event. The Concierge was very helpful and found us a nice restaurant within walking distance on very short notice. Next morning, we stood in line (again) for breakfast. A fairly modest and mediocre breakfast buffet was $48.00/person. The coffee was burnt and bitter and service, non-existent. Avoid breakfast at this place. There is a small take-out place next to the restaurant with coffee, sandwiches and bakery goods. It is a much better choice for all your meals if you don;t want to leave the hotel. Check-out was a major to do: while I was at a business meeting, my wife waited for >30 minutes for a bell staff, which never arrived. She finally struggled with the 6 pieces of luggage, took them to the elevator, then out of the elevators on the lobby level, with out any Hilton staff member providing any help. This is the poorest excuse for a hotel and Hilton should be ashamed to put its name to it! Collapse
