This was either the 3rd or 4th time that I've stayed at The Muse. Every other time has been perfect. This time we ended up in a room with a malfunctioning thermostat (it was blasting the heat and would not respond to changes to reduce the temperature). The unit was off when we checked in, and the room was comfy then so we didn't turn it on until the evening. We went to the theater, and when we returned, it said the temperature was 82 degrees, when the thermostat was set at 67 degrees. It was profoundly uncomfortable. When I went to the front desk, their only advice was to turn off the unit to allow the room to cool off. But that meant that all the street noise then became very loud. We tried to wait it out for about another hour--the room was still roasting (only had come down 1 degree) and it was impossible to sleep. I called the front desk, and this time they explained that the hotel was full so they could not move us but they could send up a noise noise cancellation machine. That machine did resolve the street noise (thank goodness!), so if you run into that issue, be sure to contact the front desk. But the room remained very hot for most of the night, which meant we slept very poorly. The front desk was able to move us to a new room in the morning, which was much appreciated. It just was disappointing to have such a terrible first night because it meant we were exhausted the following day. I also was a little surprised that we weren't offered anything as a "we're sorry for the inconvenience"--just a small token or a deduction from our final bill would have been appreciated. But setting that issue aside, I do love the location. It can't be beat. The rooms are always immaculately clean. The food at the restaurant, NIOS, is tasty (we had dinner there the first night) and their cocktails are great. I think we're likely to consider The Muse when we return to NYC for these reasons, although Eventi (also a Kimpton) is also great. Collapse

We stayed for four nights and found both the room, and hotel generally, to be excellent. The location, just a minute or two from Times Square, was exceptional. The quality of the bed and bedding was excellent, as was the bathroom & room generally. The only minor grumble was the price of the mini-bar items, but we simply avoided them and used the local shops. The icing on the cake, was the friendly & helpful staff, especially the Reception staff who were outstanding. Collapse

I was able to snag an amazing deal all the way back on Black Friday which was supposed to be prepaid but I was never charged until I checked-in (great little surprise). We took the train into the city and it was only a few blocks' walk from Grand Central (we opted to walk most of the trip due to the unseasonably warm weather this past weekend!). The location of the Muse could not be any better. Half a block from the heart of Times Square and some of the rooms have partial views of the Square. The lobby is small but chic and there is a beautiful bar/lounge area adjacent to it. We checked-in too early for our room but they were able to hold our bags while we explored the city. When we did get to see our room later that day, we were so pleasantly surprised! Massive for NYC!!! (double queen room). The furnishings were great, and we loved the infinity mirror behind the nightstand. The bathroom was superb. It featured a double sink and powerful rain shower and high ceilings. Only two complaints about the stay: 1. The room seemed incredibly warm and stuffy even with the thermostat turned all the way down (65 degrees was the minimum). 2. The morning in which we checked-out we were saddened to find the water to our room was not working! We were unable to take a shower, luckily the faucet had a small drip so we were able to brush our teeth and wash up a bit. When we called down to the front desk, all we were told was that they were aware of the problem. I am disappointed that we were never offered a true apology since this was 10:30am and our check-out time was 12pm. We ultimately cut our loss and checked-out so we could begin our last day in NYC. Besides this unfortunate event, we were pleased with our stay overall. The hotel is next-door to a few pubs and a mere stones' throw from the center of Times Square. Kimpton is one of my favorite hotel brands and I hope to be back one day. Collapse

We recently stayed at The Muse over President's Day Weekend - and we loved it!!! Location: Perfect. Literally a half-block east from Times Square, it was well within walking distance to all of the action...and yet, we didn't hear any street noise when we were in the room. Now, granted, we were on the 12th floor - which I highly recommend. Room: We had a king-sized room, and although small, it was perfect for Hubby and I. A (small) closet, desk, and TV dresser/cabinet completed the room. No sitting chairs, but a small bench at the foot of the bed assisted with getting dressed. A very nice & spacious bathroom with dual sinks & plenty of counter space. The window shades in the room were room-darkening, which was nice. My only complaints - and they are minor - is that I wish there was a full-length mirror in the room...a lady likes to see how her shoes look with an outfit when getting ready to go out on the town. My other complaint is that the closet door was NOT a slider door, but on a hinge - that was set to automatically swing close, which made it difficult while getting dressed...the door was constantly closing on us!!! Amenities: Gosh, where do I start?? Complimentary wine in the evenings, which was delicious...a yoga mat, umbrella, and two plush robes in the closet...delicious-smelling soaps, lotion and shampoo in the bathroom...a very well-appointed gym on the 2nd floor... Staff: Outstanding. Always friendly and accommodating. The doormen were especially gracious, and we enjoyed chatting with them every day. Collapse

We came here for 5 days to attend a wedding on the upper East and West sides of NYC. Wedding stuff Park Ave synagogue and rehearsal dinner on upper West side This location is great and steps away from the Disney like "Times Square." We have 2 young kids, 4 and 5. We live in the San Francisco Bay area and they are fairly well traveled but non the less kids. This hotel is a boutique hotel and it definitely feels like that. Even though we were only there a few days, the staff learned our names and it was like living in the building not like "staying in a hotel." When we would come back from outside, we were greeted with "Good evening Mrs Solomon, how is your evening?" It felt like we lived in a great building with a doorman that was like extended family. My kids loved it. Rooms fairly kids friendly once you have the remove the candy, sodas and other expensive stuff that one can buy in the room. I have a routine of asking get that that be removed in any hotel we stay in so I don't end up buying $67 worth of candy and nuts while taking a shower. Always tip the poor guy that has to come and remove all the stuff. I loved my stay and it came at a time when I desperately needed a vacation. It was freezing outside (literally the first time my kids learned about having to wear gloves, harsh etc Because they were born and raised in SF where the temp has a huge range of 55-75 degrees 90% of the year) Definitely recommend this hotel Collapse
