Booked through booking.com as a last minute change of plans... supposed to be visiting Guernsey but selected Jersey flights by mistake, would have cost almost £500 to change and rebook so we came over anyway. Check-in was seamless, arrived an hour early and received a very friendly welcome and all the information about WiFi, the gym and the dining arrangements. First impressions were good, the reception area was clean, well decorated and warm. The room was also warm and very comfortable. There was no noise or disturbances which surprised me when we went for breakfast as the restaurant was full of guests. The food was plentiful and all freshly cooked. The staff were on hand keeping the toast rack and coffee pots refills flowing. We asked for a recommendation for an evening meal and were directed to The Wildfire (see review) which was great. Spent the evening in town which was a 10-15min walk away. We would definitely come back to Jersey and stay at the Monterey Hotel, off season - locals know how to enjoy themselves and treated us like old friends. Collapse

The hotel is slightly dated but comfortable, clean and with very friendly and helpful staff. We had a deluxe room which was situated on the top floor over the hotel entrance. We didn't notice any issues with the traffic. The bed was huge, the bathroom was a little dated but clean and functional. Only slight issue was the location of the toilet roll holder which was behind you when sat down rather than on the wall beside you which it could have been. Room had hairdryer, tea, coffee and biscuits and was cleaned daily. TV worked OK and heating was good. Lift was ok. Unfortunately we could not get the wifi working at all over the 3 days we were there but I think that may have been an issue with our phones but not sure. There was a computer in the lobby which appeared to be free although when I went to use it that didn't work either. Staff throughout were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. We did not use the pool so cannot comment. There is a lift which worke fine and the hotel appears good for disabled customers. Hotel is situated about 15 minute walk from town. Car parking at the front was free with a voucher from the hotel. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. We hired a car from the airport and toured the island. Collapse

First impressions of hotel were good. We had hired a car and there was parking (which a permit for from hotel lobb yis needed). All staff were so friendly and helpful. We were very impressed with our superior room, decor was a little dated but the room was larger than expected, plenty of wardrobe space (including 2 bath robes) , hairdryer, trouser press, tv on sideboard next to two comfortable chairs, very large bed, Room was on the third floor which overlooked the main road. I personally wasnt kept awake with any road noise as bed was so comfortable I slept so soundly. We didnt use the spa facilities. The breakfast had lots of choice and was served till 10am. Included continental breakfast, cereals, toast, cooked breakfast, porridge and kippers. It was about a 15-20 minute walk into town. Our towels were changed everyday. The bathroom had complimentary shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soaps. Always had hot water. Would highly recommend this hotel. Collapse

We recently spent 4 nights at the Monterey Hotel as we were visiting friends in jersey, and were on a short half-term break. The first positive aspect was that the hotel had obviously listened to our " special requests " as we had a wonderfully quiet room on the second floor, not near families or children ( teachers on hols...!!!) The room was massive, really clean and although a little dated, who cares? We could have stayed for weeks, and people who moan about décor just don't get it - its a hotel, not your home...! Comfy bed, lovely shower, loads of room, the only downside is lack of double-glazing so if you have trouble with early nights and noisy roads, ask for a rear room. The restaurant is first-class, brilliant choice, tasty food, comprehensive menu, lovely friendly staff. The bar staff are knowledgeable, attentive, great drinks selection and the bar area is comfy and welcoming. Really nice full breakfasts, lots of choice, spotlessly clean tablecloths, and certainly what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. ( except this is 3 star price!) Added attractions are the wonderful gym area, indoor and outdoor pools, Jacuzzi, and the chance to also use facilities at the sister hotel The Royal. In the interests of a balanced review, we were woken by the plumbing making a racket at 6am on our first morning, but we are the sort of travellers that work out what setting the radiator needs to be on to prevent it, not the sort that run to reception at every little thing. Can't praise the hotel highly enough. We've stayed at 10 jersey hotels in the last 10 years, and this is one we would return to as a first choice. Great value for money, the manageress is to be congratulated on doing a superb job. Collapse
