Just returned back from a fantastic holiday in Sorrento staying at the Minerva Hotel. I cant believe that someone has wrote a review saying they did not like the food and had to eat out every day. Plenty of choice for breakfast and the evening meals were 3 courses and were excellent, with plenty of choices, proper Italian food. Also if you didn't fancy a starter and a main meal you could swap them round and have a starter as a main meal. The waiters were excellent and friendly. The bedrooms were clean and comfy with excellent views. The pool was lovely and clean everyday and plenty of sunbeds. Please don't change anything about the Minerva Hotel. Collapse

This hotel is absolutely amazing. We had a sea facing room with private balcony. Views of the sea are out of this world. The dining room staff were very friendly and excellent at their jobs. The bedroom was really comfortable with very large bed, quaint older style Italian furniture, a small dressing room with safe, and bathroom with both bath and shower, and large flat screen 32inch TV. We watched a UK football match on the freeview TV. The food was delicious and plentiful. The only negative thing I can comment on is that some of the other guests hogged the sun loungers but the pool staff didn't police that. I would rate this 11/10. We will definitely come back. Awesome experience. 5 stars. Collapse

We arrived a bit late to the Minerva, but food had been left for us in the dinning room and very welcome it was to. Where to start we found the staff to be so friendly and helpful, the views from our room was fantastic we were overlooking the main road out of Sorrento which was busy and at times a bit noisy but it did not spoil our holiday at all. Breakfast we found was very good we thought a great choise of food of all kinds Evening meals were very good a small choise from a menu each night, our problem with it was the meals were always more than we were able to eat, and if you were not able to be around for the evening meal you could eat at lunch time. Sorrento town is just a very short walk down the hill from the hotel, plenty of bars and resturants, trips out from here is pretty easytrain and bus stations quite close by The hotel could do with a bit of a make over in places but it's still a lovely place to stay would reconmend it. My husband and I have just returned from a week in Sorrento staying at the Minerva. I read and re-read the previous reviews and was so excited ready to burst for this holiday and I will try to give my honest opinion below. When we finally got to the hotel after a long day/transfer my initial thought was wow. We were whisked off for food and although we were rushed to eat we were hungry so was grateful for it. Then we got to the room (7th floor) and although basic and in need of an update was clean and cool. Straight to sleep. Breakfast each day was not much to shout about and we usually had a few slices of toast. Dinner although having a choice was terrible. I always believe you can find something to eat but struggled. My husband, who can eat anything as a rule, couldn't eat one dish that was served to him stating it was the worse thing he had ever tasted. The waiters didn't seem interested that you had left a full plate of food they just scrapped it away giving the same offering of fruit salad , ice cream and two other different options for desert. We ended up eating out every day as I wanted to enjoy the holiday which included nice meals! I am amazed how people mention there are plenty of sunbeds as this was not my experience. Again after a few days we just stayed away anyway. The best thing is the view which is the selling point. But in saying that after walking into town every day to eat the same view is available from lots of areas in Sorrento. I would be honest in saying we didn't complain to the reception or anyone but our issues were only solvable by eating elsewhere so we didn't see the point. Would I return to sorrento possibly - the Minerva no way thank you. Collapse

Booked at the last minute we were poised for disappointment but couldn't have been more wrong. Having paid a sea view supplement we were put in 601, a compact room with dual aspect, despite having the view of the bay blocked by the main part of the building, it had a great view of vesuvius and was lovely and light and bright. Efficient air conditioning was essential in the current heatwave and the room was always a delight to return to. In reality though this hotel is never going to be about the room but the amazing view from the restaurant/bar terrace. Half board gave a five or so choices for the four courses with a fantastic salad buffet available to start. The staff were super attentive- sometimes too attentive as plates were whisked away and replaced before you had the chance to swallow but a request to slow down was all that was needed. The view is of course the result of the hotel being high outside of the town but its only a 15 min steady walk from the centre and the road side entrance is five floors below the terrace are so much of the height is gained in the lift! Bright jewel colours in the furnishings give a real Mediterranean feel. Pool was great, beach at Marina Grande nearby is a great place to swim too. Sorrento was a great base for exploring further afield with easy access to train line and ferries. Our first holiday without kids in over 18 years and couldn't have been better suited - really lovely.
