Minerva hotel is the best place. We had such a great time there. The staff are amazing, they helped us with every little questions with a big smile :) The breakfast is good and the view is better then the pictures. Thank you for unforgettable time❤

The sundeck area of the Minerva hotel offers the most beautiful view of the entire Bay of Naples and majestic, brooding, Vesuvius which I doubt any other hotel can better! Set high up above the town, the hotel layout exudes 'old world' charm through it's vaulted, airy, public rooms which have plentiful of comfortable seating, 'objets d' art' and view to the Bay outside. Smiling, friendly, staff are constantly close by to help all your needs - all with an excellent command of English. The walk down to the town is a gentle 10-15 minutes and I would emphasise that the return trip back up the hill is also quite gentle and in no way an unwelcome climb - even for folks of my 60+ age! All our meals (breakfast and dinner) were taken on the main balcony with the fantastic view of the Bay and Vesuvius. The breakfasts were excellent and whilst described as "continental" had also a choice of hot food (eggs and bacon or sausages) and plentiful cold cuts, bread and small cakes. Dinners were, without exception, totally memorable in their variety, choice, numbers of courses and presentation (and these were 'just' the fixed menu!!). As we were staying on a 'half board' basis we were pretty much of the opinion that these were the best meals of any of our package stays - ever!! Doubtless because we were on a Thompson/TUI package our rooms were their 'basic' ones. Our room was unfortunately on the 1st floor (but still overlooking the Bay) which meant that we were just above the busy road up the hill outside. After our initial concern about noise we very quickly became accustomed to the background 'hum' as there were 2 sets of double-glazed patio windows and a vertical shutter to block out the sound. The room itself was large, light and airy with good air-conditioning. The bathroom was also bright and clean and well equipped. Daily housekeeping was excellent. Overall - whilst you might choose to afford a room higher up the building (and I'm sure that they are increasingly well equipped) you should not be concerned if you have a room on the 1st or 2nd floors. The hotel is built into the cliff walking distance from Sorrento downtown, and provides a 180 degree view of the bay of naples and the islands in the distance. Get a room with a balcony, can't beat sitting outside and sipping a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Spectacular views. We usually find local restaurants to explore, but the food quality, value and of course the view from the hotel terrace and bar area were so exceptional we ate dinner here all three nights! The maitre d', there for breakfast and dinner dressed in his black tie or white dinner jacket was very helpful..... clearly "A Gentleman in Sorrento"! Franco and Antonietta were extremely accommodating, holding our bags overnight when we took a trip to Amalfi, they were very flexible with the arrangements and all around a pleasure to deal with. Overall EXCELLENT stay, we will be back! They also have a lovely pool and lounge area on the top floor which has drinks/light fare. Collapse

With such beautiful views from this hotel I was really looking forward to staying here. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is fantastic. My horror and disappointment was the fact that our room was in the Attic. I paid a lot of money to Thomson for this holiday and there was no mention in my booking which said twin bedded room. Would you really expect this to be in an attic?? I complained to Thomson but they were not interested. Bad Bad Customer Service. The hotel staff were as helpful as they could be but said if i wanted to change my room I could, but i could only get a room for 5 nights and I had to pay 150 Euros. I changed rooms so as not to spoil my holiday. Considering I was only there for a week this was very annoying after 5 nights i had to go back to the attic which i found claustrophobic. Collapse
