I got asked to a family members communion in the millrace on the 14/5/17! We were having a meal so where do I start I would have to say it was the worst dinner I every got! Firstly we had soup or more like water the tables weren't set no spoons or plates to cut the rolls so everyone had to butter there rolls on the table cloth! Then the main course came out I got beef it was dry and the veg was only served after everyone finished there dinner the only nice part was the mashed potatoes! The kids choice was fish/sausage and chips! The fish was actually cremated and the chips had to all be sent back as they were actually black! Then they sent out these little skinny chips! The desert was a cheesecake it was absolutely disgusting! All in all I have to blame the chef and manager it was the worse service or food I every have gotten It ruined the day for everyone and had it being me I would have refused to pay! I took pictures of the food and the manager was made aware of it. Collapse

I booked the millrace the day before my stay. Last minute decision. I phoned the hotel later that evening to see if i could check in early as i would be arriving in bunclody very early next morning. The lady on the phone was kind enough to do it for me. When i arrived at the hotel, a receptionist named ciara checked me in. She was very pleasent and helpful. Unfortunately this was the last part of my stay that i could pay compliments to. When i arrived in my room, the first thing i noticed was how dirty the carpets were. The wallpaper was peeling off the wall and small square patches in places. Then the shower wouldn't work properly. The shower head was damaged ..It needs replacing. Later that evening i went to the bar for some food. The menu to me was not great. It didn't have a great selection.saying that it might appeal to someone else. The menu itself was just an a4 sheet of paper. It's not what you would expect from a 4* hotel. There was a lady in the bar wearing a different uniform to others.i presume she is a supervisor or manager but she was not very welcoming or pleasent. She walked past me a number of times but a young barman served me in the end. The next day when i checked out ciara was on the front desk again. As before she was pleasent and looked after my luggage for me until i returned later. She is a lovely lady and the millrace is lucky to have her. Later i had some food in bar but the veg were so hard i couldn't chew them. The rest of the meal wasnt great. I hate pointing out things that are bad about a place but if they don't get pointed out, they will never be fixed.i have been working in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and i have very high standards when it comes to looking after guests and running a hotel, some reinvestment needed in decor and staff training needed. Not a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination, 3 star at best, food average, staff not at all helpful when the word DEAL was mentioned, the food was just ok but not at all what you would expect from 4 star, rooms were ok but again not 4 star, sleep quality not very good as a noisy crowd were pounding up and down outside most of the night. Will not be returning to the Millrace and certainly will not be buying any more DEALS from other sites. Collapse

Spent one night here recently, and to be honest this hotel is not really a 4 star in my opinion. The good points first, the waiting staff staff were friendly and efficient, the food was quite good. However I have to say, we got off to a bad start, as on arriving in the appointed bedroom it turned out to be a wheelchair accessible room. Not a problem from a sleeping point, but the shower was built for wheelchair access only. On advising the receptionist, requesting a different room caused some raised eyebrows.. The next room was clean and comfortable and basic. One thing I've said before about some hotels is I cannot understand why pvc shower curtains are still in use, they are, in my opinion, un-hygienic and surely screens should be the norm (in particular in a 4 star hotel). While the bed was comfortable, the walls must be quite this, as we could hear the people both sides quite clearly. Also, because the room was directly above the bar entrance, there was a noisy crowd outside it's door until the small hours. Dinner was served in the bar (only) and was nice. However, because we were on a "deal" the choices were very limited, with most dishes (even of the same prices) surcharged...strange that. Unfortunately, my overall impression of this hotel was a disappointment, I'm sorry to say. Collapse

Superbreak star ratings are given as a guide to help you choose between our hotels and do not necessarily relate to those awarded by other organisations.
They symbolise the level of service and range of facilities that you can expect at the property; ranging from 1 star - hotels with the simplest range of facilities, to five stars - luxury hotels with a wider range of facilities.
Please note that different countries have different standards and star ratings may differ according to the country where the hotel is located.
