Disgracefully run hotel. I was due to stay the weekend of the snow. I had called the hotel in the days leading up to the snow and was advised I would be contacted in the morning and also if the hotel was due to close I would be notified. I did not receive the call as promised the next morning and I tried myself to call and email the hotel numerous times with no answer. It was myself and my partners anniversary and we did not want to waste the money we had spent. I also work weekends and had the weekend booked off especially. So we travelled down to discover the hotel was shut and we had not been notified. I tired for the next 2 and a half weeks to contact the hotel by phone and email. Our emails were ignored and we were told on the phone that the manager will get back to us “when she is ready”. When I did speak to the manager they refused to refund us despite them closing the hotel without notifying us I understand due to the weather that the hotel had to shut. But to not notify guests and to have the complete ignorance to not respond to calls or emails for the next 2 and half weeks just speaks for itself about what sort of hotel this is. Disgracefully run hotel, dog ignorant staff, absolute kip!! Collapse
Clean but needs updating and better staff communication

We stayed 2 nights from the 18th-20th March. On arrival, we were greeted by a receptionist named Hollie who was absolutely lovely and was so professional and is a credit to your hotel. The suite was clean, big and well stocked when it came to toiletries. One thing that would be great to add to the room is a mini bar. The bed was also very comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was average. The chicken wings were crispy with barely any meat on them, and the red Thai curry was very milky, the burger was also not the best. Breakfast in the morning was nice, with continental and full Irish on display from 8am-11am. The staff were helpful. The leisure centre needs an update. The gym is well equipped but a good few of the machines were not working. There were buckets collecting leaks everywhere and the yoga mats needed renewing as they are thin and torn. The swimming pool is nice, however, there had been a 2-degree drop in temperature in the pool (which I have noticed has been commented on in earlier posts meaning that the pool has been this way for a while.) Sauna, steam room and jacuzzi all good. One thing that tainted our stay was dinner on the second night. Online it said that there were 2 steaks for 25euro on a Monday (which was that night.) It was a bank holiday so we rang down to ensure that it was still going ahead and reception confirmed this and we booked a table. On arrival to the restaurant, we were told that the chef had gone home for the bank holiday and that they couldn't do the deal. We looked at the menu and decided we didn't want anything from it as we had had an average dinner there the night before and were hoping the steak would be different. Extremely disappointing as it was a small town and the only other restaurants were a pub and an old Italian diner which was not what we were looking for. When we asked reception, the girl just told shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know anything and that was that. The next morning for breakfast and when we checked out at 1 pm, the same girl was on reception from late the night before which I would hope she had the correct 11 hours between her shifts. Another point to note was the wifi was broken. Which is another thing I have constantly seen in reviews from way back, so the problem is still not rectified. In the end, it was a nice stay and the bed was comfy, but it would be beneficial to the hotel if they were to take these points into account. Collapse
Very bad experience

We booked a double room for a midweek break 15th & 16th March. On arrival had to wait at reception for approximately 10 minutes for someone to turn up. We booked in and went to our double room and were nearly knocked out with the smell of cigarette smoke. The carpets were also filthy. We were immediately accommodated in a twin room which was brighter and cleaner. We were advised that the wifi was on the blink, but were promised that someone would get back to us. No body got in touch. I went to the gym in the afternoon. There was a sign to say that the pool was a couple of degrees below what it should have been, and all of the exercise bikes were out of order. The evening meal was fine. Breakfast the following morning was woeful. The tables were not set and the only option was the full Irish which we did not want. We ordered scrambled egg and bacon and toast. My wife's breakfast arrived but appeared to have been microwaved, and the toast was thrown on top. After several requests for a second breakfast I was informed that the waitress only heard an order for one breakfast and that I would have to wait. There were only eight tables for breakfast so it was not so busy. I got served after a forty minute wait, and eventually went to reception to complain. The receptionist said there would not be a manager available until 6pm. Other guests then complained and we were told that a manager would be in touch. This did not happen. We felt at that stage that we should check out, but decided not to as we had a couple of engagements in the area, and we had pre paid for our stay. We were not expecting much on the second morning but at breakfast we thought we were in a different hotel. Everything was as you would expect it. The waitress apologised for the previous morning and there appeared to be extra staff on duty. This could have been a very nice stay, but the lack of wifi, the run down gym, the dirty room, the non availability of a duty manager, and the shambles for breakfast on the first morning left us feeling short changed. We may return to Bunclody but it will not be to the Millrace. JB Collapse

My daughter and i have just returned from here, staff rude and do not cater to guests at all, food for dinner bland no flavour, we asked where the vending machine was for water and the reception staff did not know where the vending machine was brought a glass of very milky looking water ...ugh, as for the rude Eastern European waitress for breakfast, who had,,,,,wait for it. 5 tables to serve, got all the orders wrong, people were going up to the kitchen to ask for butter etc because she just could not be bothered. I would be very surprised if this place survives this year.Never ever again Collapse

A very disappointing stay, there was no heat in the room when we arrived " There was a problem with the heating and they were dealing with it we were told" a guest from England, who was there for a few days told us the heating problem was there for the last week or so and still had not been sorted properly. After a couple of hours and at our suggesting we were moved to another room, there was no heat in this room either and it took a few hours to resolve that situation. The breakfast was a total farce nothing was laid out as is the norm in hotels and as there was only one person serving the service was extremely slow and people were very frustrated. There was one couple there who ordered breakfast at the same time but only one arrived and was finished long before the second breakfast arrived, the waitress said she only heard one order, this was the same situation on the second morning. A couple who said they have being going there for a long time / years and said the service was normally very good and they heard that the hotel had been purchased by a vulture fund and this was the consequences of that situation. When we complained to the reception staff they asked if we would mind if the manager contacted us by phone, this never happened. We certainly will not be booking a break at this hotel again unless we hear that the hotel is back up to normal and proper standards. Collapse
