Spent two nights here with a friend. The staff are so helpful and very friendly. The food was average. We had a voucher so a two course dinner was available to us. Only asterisk choices on the menu were available to us. Anything with no asterisk was an extra four euro for a main course. My friend had fish and chips. At the end she had to pay four euro. It seems fish of the day had no charge but fish and chips had ?? Our table was literally stuck inside the door and every time it opened there was an awful draft. There was great entertainment in the bar. Only four channels on the tv which is ridiculous for a four star hotel and for families with young children. Need to improve on a few areas. All in all a pleasant stay. Collapse
Definitely will return 😊

Stayed at the Millrace with last weekend and we are already checking dates to go back. Arrived before checkin time but our rooms were ready which was a bonus. Check was fast, 2 lovely ladies at the front desk, ran through the layout of the hotel etc and off we went. Had interconnecting rooms, very clean, bright decor & the kids were delighted they had a room to themselves. As a treat to the kids we booked them to get their nails done in the spa and Eimear made them feel like princesses. We had a facial and it was so relaxing, would have loved to have spent longer there. Now the best part, dinner. We were on a package but upgraded to the full menu, goats cheese dish & wild mushroom dish to start, chicken and lamb for main, could not fault one single thing about either dish. Cheesecake to end, perfect. All in all we had a brilliant stay, the staff are amongst the friendliest I have come across and are genuinely interested when their talking to you. See you in the New Year Collapse

Myself and my husband stayed in the Milrace Hotel for 2 nights recently, Thurs and Friday night. At the outset I note that we got a good deal on the hotel, paying €140 for 2 nights, including one evening meal which is very reasonable. We arrived on the Thursday evening, and our first impression was of a pretty standard hotel. We were greeting by a very friendly receptionist, and throughout our stay we have to really commend the friendly and helpful staff, everyone we encountered was very professional. Our room was located on the first floor. It was a standard room, nothing special but everything was reasonably clean, and the bathroom was a good size with bath. The room itself could have done with a deep clean, there were cobwebs in the corners of the room, and in general everything was a bit scuffed, and the bed was very squeaky. It was also very cold in the room, which we immediately noticed. On the Thursday evening we had our evening meal in the hotel (2 courses plus t&c included). The set menu was very limited, so we asked for the main menu, and were advised there was a supplement on anything on the set menu. Both menus were limited. We both had the fish and chips, and it was actually very tasty, a good sized portion, we couldn’t fault it. I had the cheese board for desert which was also very nice, and my husband had a Ferero Rocha ice cream type desert, which was also very tasty. In general the food was good, and better than we expected. Afterwards we went for a wander down the town, unfortunately a large number of pubs have closed down, with one 2 remaining open, and both were very quiet. We went back to the hotel bar which was nice. I had two cocktails, which were very strong and not the nicest, but we both did have lovely Irish coffees, however had to wait almost half an hour for them to be dropped down to us. Unfortunately the bar emptied out around 11 and we were the only ones left so we called it a night. Again the room was really cold that night, and the heating did not come on at all in our room. Next morning we had breakfast in the hotel, we found it was a poor standard. I had porridge which was thick and gloopy, and the buffet fry was very poor, dried up rashers, scrambled eggs from a packet, fruit from tins. The breakfast room was also very cold with a plug in heater near the door. That afternoon we went down to the pool, which was a very poor quality. A school group had been in beforehand and the floors were dirty in the changing room. The sauna and steam room were also dirty, especially the floor. The pool itself was ok. We opted to eat somewhere else that evening. There was live music in the bar that evening which was really loud in our room, but in fairness it was a Friday night so we didn’t mind too much. We could hear everything from the room at either side of us which had been vacant on the night before. Neither of us got a great sleep on the Fri night. Saturday morning we both used the gym, which was pretty basic and dated but what you could expect from a hotel gym. We again used the pool and sauna, and it was still so dirty, we really felt that the place needs a really good clean & it was disappointing as it was a major reason we chose the hotel given that it had a pool and gym. Breakfast was the same, this time I went with poached eggs which were made to order and were very pleasant. There were a lot of groups of men staying in the hotel, so would suggest it suits golfers more than couples. All in all an average stay, as I said the staff were the hotels best asset, plus it was reasonably priced for the deal we got, but everything else was just average, and the leisure centre was poor. Having bought an escape.ie voucher which was( we thought) good value at the time. However on ringing the hotel they say they have no availability on the date we would like. In the small print, because it's all about the small print, there was no black out dates which other hotels have for the same dates. Which was the mid term break. The hotel have said that there is availability but not if you have a voucher. It would be interesting to see how many rooms were actually released for the vouchers that week. Wasn't too long ago hotels were on their knees begging guests to stay with them. The level of greed that hotels have once again returned to in Ireland is unbelievable. The moral of the story stay away from vouchers and hotels, especially the (which seem to be) great deal hotels with little or no availability on voucher rooms each night. ( Wonder what a voucher room looks like). By all accounts it's a nice hotel pity I'll never find out. Collapse
