Excellent service and character. Aged, uncomfortable rooms.

This hotel has such history and grandeur. We stayed because we were attending a conference and gala there. The lobby, bar, ball rooms, and restaurant were gorgeous. The service was better than almost anywhere I've stayed. Room service was to die for - delicious breakfasts served beautifully. The rooms - Oh my. Our very small room, though it had lots of character, was horribly uncomfortable. The windows were clearly originals, and were painted shut. They bathroom window could not be opened to let in fresh air, but all of the outside street noise came in, and in downtown LA, this was ALL night and day. Brawls, budding flute players, sirens... Also, there was no ventilation in the bathroom. The sunlight came in, and it heated up to what must have been 90 degrees during the day, making it impossible to get ready without working up a sweat. As this was the only mirror in the room, there was not an option to put on makeup or do hair elsewhere. There was not even a full length mirror available. Lastly, the air conditioning went out the last night we were there, waking us in a sweat at 3:30 am. with the noise and the heat, there was no sleep to be had. Collapse

The Millennium Biltmore is an aged old lady who has her makeup dripping from her face. We stayed here for a medical meeting over a weekend since this was the meeting hotel. Let me start by saying the staff is very friendly and helpful. The architecture is very impressive and has been here for 95 years. It is romantic to walk through the public areas and imagine what it was like in the 1920’s. The problems come when one looks at the amenities. The rooms are dated, small and have very small outdated bathrooms with fixtures that remind one of a Motel 6. Certainly not luxury hotel standards. The standard internet is only 4 Mbps - WOW!! There are no electrical outlets next to the bed to plug an iPhone into and the supplied alarm clock is by the TV across the room. The bar, The Gallery, was pleasant with friendly waitstaff. We were there for Friday night Happy Hour where we had calamari and raw oysters. The oysters were really fresh. The calamari was among the worst we have ever had anywhere. Dinner was at the Bugis Street Brasserie where we had average Asian food. Atmosphere was non-existent. Breakfast at Smeraldi’s was very good. There was a nice buffet available for a reasonable $22. In summary, this is an historic old hotel that once was the shining star of Hollywood. The public areas are still amazing from an architectural standpoint but the rooms are dated, small, and dingy. I would not recommend the Millennium Biltmore as a place to stay if you are expecting upscale amenities. Collapse

After reading many bad reviews (more than usual) about this hotel, I booked it anyway, given the lower price offered, the long prestigious history and its great location (6-16$ to reach any touristic attractions in LA with Uber: we did not need to rent a car, get stressed in traffic, or search and be charged for [valet] parking). During our 5 days stay, I did not meet any unpleasant employee. The double bed room was okay. I could not tell it that room was already refurbished (as claimed by the hotel) or not because there was a mix of old and new stuff in it: The room 738 was impressively large. Beds were god but narrow for a queen size. I would trade less room size for larger beds. Windows are old and made of a single thin layer: trafic, surrounding construction work since 6am, talking/singing/screaming homeless people during the night and air conditioning spining fans on the roof could be heard louder than expected. Free Wifi signal was strong, stable and speed was fast in the room but only if the 5GHz band was used on high end devices. Lower devices using only 2.4 GHz could not connect as the signal was disurbed by other wifi networks. So i guess people who complained about it may have had this issue. The bathroom with a shower was in a good state but did not include modern equipment. Warmth and pressure of the water were good at the 7th floor. There were enough electrical plugs to charge my family's 4 mobile devices. TV usb connector could be used to charge. All major US tv channels were available in digital HD quality, apps were accessible to reach Netflix and other online services. TV was like the bed smaller than expected in such a large room (42" i guess). Overall, small details left aside, it was a no-trouble stay in a splendid historical hotel for the whole family. Collapse
