The lady on reception was friendly and efficient. We paid just over #210 for a sea view room and breakfast. On the first floor, the room was small. Curtains appeared cheap and ill fitting The balcony was accessed by a small door. It was small and unappealing. Our view was of the sea and the roof of the floor below. Higher floors might provide a better view. The bathroom facilities - shower and sink and toiletries were excellent. Breakfast was on Good Friday. A wide selection of food was available and the one or two staff courteous and helpful. Although served to order, the sausage, blackpudding and bacon were hard - possibly overcooked. Their dry hard texture suggested they had been cooked very early in the morning and reheated. We had plenty of tea but left the cooked element of the breakfast. The hotel's stars are the people who come into contact with guests. The room was expensive and lacked any comfort in my view. Collapse
Just a very good quirky hotel

Just spent three days at the Midland having a very pleasant time in a room looking out at the beautiful Morecambe Bay with its ever changing combination of sea and sky. The Midland is what you see on the website, an Art Deco Hotel that has been lovingly restored. It really is a nice hotel but what makes it even more special is the staff. I said to David (title is possibly Food and Beverage Manager) that whoever trains the staff , they are doing a great job. Smiling, friendly, couldn't do enough for us, especially David who helped me when my wife was ill, (nothing to do with the hotel). The hotel is not cheap but our room was very large with a balcony and sitting area. It has been specially fitted with a somewhat strange combination of drawers, wardrobe, walk in shower, toilet, TV and coffee station. It was most odd opening cupboards to find out what was behind, like the 'pull down wardrobe' and especially the toilet which was 'hidden' and was a strange arrangement because it feels like you are actually in the bedroom and was slightly disconcerting as you are aware that whoever is left in the bedroom can hear all the relevant ablution noises sounding out. Missing items in the room: no close shaving mirror in the bathroom nor any flat surfaces for bathroom toiletries. There was also enough room for a full size ladies dressing table with mirror in the bedroom rather than a small 'built in' space in the combination of drawers and wardrobes etc. The food is the restaurant was pricey which made the package expensive. You get to choose three (starter, main and desert) from the Al-la-Carte menu, which is fairly comprehensive, (some supplements apply). The standard at dinner was good but the breakfast, was a little bit special. I had two full English and one Manx kipper with poached eggs (best ever) , which was just the nicest kipper I had ever eaten. Great porridge and lots of Artisan bread for toasting plus a good selection of cereals. There is one really strange thing that might happen at dinner: The hotel faces absolutely due West and so does the dining terrace, (which is beautiful). As the afternoon sun goes on the terrace which has views directly across the bay, this means the dining room gets the full force of the afternoon and evening sun through the full length glass windows. We were told as the hotel is Grade 2 listed, they aren't allowed to have any curtains or blinds. In summer the dining room must become like a sauna? Their answer is quite novel, they have managed to install air conditioning and they lend you sunglasses because the sunlight is shining into your eyes. We needed them on one night because it was sunny and that was in April. Due to the combination of great staff and the unusual quality of the architecture (especially the spectacular spiral staircase) the hotel is clearly a favourite place for weddings so if you are looking for a nice quiet weekend I would check. Architecturally it is a magnificent building and we just loved it (but the staff made it something special). . Collapse

Vaguely interested in art deco and the Poirot thing. Found the midland and booked a two night stay. Pushed the boat out and had a deluxe roof top room. Honestly it was magnificent. Every aspect has design and style. We ate in the restaurant both nights and had fish of the day - very fresh and tasty. Obviously you are paying for the attention but they do it very well. You can't help but smile being in such beautiful surroundings. Morecambe itself is in a sorry state - and the area needs your support - so go out and use it before we lose it. Collapse

Just had a weekend at this hotel and it was a great experience! The room and bathroom were spacious, clean and comfortable and, as a big tea drinker, I was really pleased to find a pint of fresh milk in the fridge! (I've not experienced this in a hotel before and thought it was a great idea, so much better than those horrible little pots of UHT!) It seems to be well staffed, so we never waited long at the bar or on the terrace and all the staff were really pleasant and helpful. We were here for a wedding - the food was great and the organisation seemed seamless to me - I believe the bride and groom were very happy, and the setting is stunning - the views across the bay are absolutely superb! What a place! I can't recommend it enough - the famous architecture lives up to its reputation and dogs are welcome too :) Collapse
