The nutshell. This is my least favorite hotel for the last 2-3 years. I do not mean that it is a nasty place (in fact, I rate it 3 stars), but it lacks in many ways and would need a lot of work to be improved. Even if we are staying in one of the higher corner rooms with ocean view, we are not fully enjoying this hotel. LOBBY: A-. Sadly, this is the best part of the hotel. When you enter you are deceived because if you are to build your expectations on the lobby, you would come to expect a lot more. The fact alone that while someone came to open the door of our taxi, but nobody offered to help with luggage was perhaps telling the truth, but the lobby can fool you. ELEVATORS: C.. A few steps past the lobby, the reality sets in.. Elevators are slow. They have 4 but, maybe it is a coincidence, we always got to use the same 2. That would explain why at certain times we had to wait 4-5 minutes. An old gentleman told us that in one occasion he waited almost 10 minutes. If you are checking out, be advised that you might be in for long waits. ROOMS: C to B+. Here it gets a little tricky. There is no way around the fact that the hotel is old. It is not falling apart, but it is old. We found our first room not acceptable as there was a window that did not close properly and there was a strong draft. Now, you may think: "Too bad, but I will put the heat on"... Well the heat does not work! So put that idea to rest. If you are cold, you are cold! I did not try if the A/C works as we were plenty cold. They also only provide one blanket and with the temperature, we were not feeling too good in the room. So the grade is a C. The morning after, my wife was adamant: we must change room. So, after a discussion, we decided to pay extra and were assigned a corner room on a high floor with Ocean view. Bigger room, nicer bed with firmer mattress, more amenities, etc.. but the problem is again that the insulation is pitiful so we have the noise from the wind (a strong wind at that) all night long. The sun shines all around us in the morning which is good in some ways as it compensates for the cold during the night at least, but not an optimal thing. Also one has to be warned that several floors (so we were told at least) have been remodeled, but some have not. So the experience could vary depending on where you end up. CLEANLINESS: B. No major complaints, but there is no attention to details. I am fairly tall and while waiting for the elevators I had a chance to pay attention to the chandeliers in the lobbies and several were on the filthy side. The first room has some sections around the window also on the dirty side. The higher end room was definitely cleaner. Bathrooms are clean, luckily. As I wrote earlier, some floors were remodeled and our second room was definitely one of those, with very clean carpet, etc. The first room was not bad, but not equally nice. NOISE: C. The doors can be heard and they are loud. Also, if you have noisy neighbors, you will hear them. Noise from road is audible, in particular after a rain. Wind also makes a lot of noise, regardless of floor level. AMENITIES: C+ Access to beach, but we are from California so, beach is not very important to us. Besides, while we were there, hardly anyone was in the water. The pool is small, sort of old style, but acceptable. Nobody there either while we stayed at the hotel. In principle there is a restaurant on the premises, but while we were here we were told it is under renovation so the lounge was all we had. The food was good, but the choice limited. And the problem is that this hotel is in the middle of "nowhere". What do I mean by this? Simply there is nothing around it, except a few other and more expensive hotels. No Starbuck's, no grocery place, no restaurants, etc.. for all that you need to walk, use your car, or call a taxi. Doable, but not pleasant or cheap. They do have a little store in the lower floor and some vending machines that charge reasonable prices for items. There is a fridge in some rooms. In our first room we did not have it, in the second we did, for instance. Coffe-maker is provided. SERVICE: B+.. It is quite acceptable, but a little bit on the slow side. Even at the lounge I saw just 2-3 people running all over the places and try to accommodate and serve many patrons. Are they a tad under-staffed? COST OF STAYING/VALUE: C+.. It is not cheap by any standard, we are still talking over $200/night.. Close to $300 even for the best rooms. So the value in exchange is not great, I am afraid. So, all in all, the hotel is nothing remarkable. I stay at many hotels during a year, sometimes for pleasure, sometimes just because I have to. This is one of the least remarkable in the last 2 years at least. Miami Beach is no Hawaii, let's be clear about it, and I am not willing to look the over way because of the such amazing experience in the water at the beach... The hotel has potential, but is likely in need of big investments. Considering that it is 18 floors, renovating all of it is going to cost big money, I am sure. But they will still have the issues that there is hardly any amenity around it. A taxi to a nice restaurant in downtown Miami is likely going to cost $25-30 each way.. and it all builds up. If you use your car, valet parking is not cheap either and then you have the cost of rental on top as well. Collapse

Stayed here four nights over New Year's weekend. The reviews both love it or hate it. I can see both. First, you go here for the price. It is not a four star flagged hotel. It is dated and doesn't bring top shelf amenities. That said, our room was clean and spacious with old style TV with limited channels, but hey, you are there for the Beach. Access to the beach is great and not crowded. The beach restaurant and bar were just fine. The pool area is dated but acceptable. The lower level snack and coffee shop was good and the free NYT at the desk was nice. Did not eat in the main restaurant. No complaints about the service but didn't try the concierge. All in, good location for the price and if you want high end just walk down the street to the FB or Eden Rock. Collapse

My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and words can not explain how amazing it was. The room was unbelievable, I do not think you can get a bad view from any room in the hotel. I got my wife an appointment with the salon and she loved it. The valet was the best valet i have ever experienced in my life. Every employee seemed like they love their job and are very guest orriented. Housekeeping was amazing and very through. The location was pefect and seemed like we were on a private beach. Collapse
