Recently returned from a week in this hotel. From the very beginning all of the staff were extremely friendly and could not do enough for you. Rooms were clean and tidy - we had a room at the back which was lovely and quiet. Food was interesting - pasta starters were fabulous, second courses were a little interesting - however my daughter and I were usually so full from the first course this did not matter. Ice cream following was fabulous- we were always offered a great choice. The wine was good and what made this even better was they wrote your room number on the bottle and what was not drunk was kept for you for the following evening - fabulous! The Gala night was hilarious - certainly not to be taken seriously! I am not sure why people were complaining about the walk down to Sorrento - Having holidayed in rural Greece for so many years no footpath for a while was no problem and the views were stunning! To sum it up I would say expect all of the best bits of Fawlty Towers and you will not be disappointed! A great fun place to stay! Collapse

Room on 3rd floor has only a tiny balcony but less noise from the road than lower floors. Being on the front we could see Vesuvius from our window, marred only by the constant honking of car and bike horns. Bathroom clean, staff very helpful and pool very refreshing (cold) with plenty of sunbeds and chairs. Lunch time food in the snack bar is excellent, huge sandwiches and delicious pizzas for only 6€. Breakfast is ok and evening meal is selected at breakfast and waiter service. The pasta dishes are lovely but not so the meat and fish courses. One day we asked for lunch instead of evening dinner so that we could eat in Sorrento. The hotel could not do this exchange but did make us a packed lunch instead which was very substantial and tasty. The hotel is about a 20minute walk to Sorrento with beautiful views on the way but to get there you must first cross a very busy junction (cars, coaches bikes etc beep horns 24/7) Then brave a 500m walk along the side of the main road before eventually reaching a footpath. Not for the faint hearted! Probably a 3* Collapse

just back from a week at above hotel, weather amazing hotel very poor, outside the hotel is a 4 way junction coaches, buses, cars coming all ways, the coaches turn here sometimes up to 3 at a time fighting for space, plus tourist cars and scooters all driving very fast. To walk into Sorrento is such a hazard, there is no path at the first part of walking, very very dangerous, then bit further down you can walk on a path, my husband is very able and took him 20 minutes to Sorrento square, bit more on return as it is up a hill, much too far to walk from square to hotel. Buses very few and then they are full, supposed to be a shuttle bus there and back asked at reception, they said no. Cost of taxi between 15-20 €. Each way. However the taxi driver felt on the day!! Breakfasts ok apart from toaster, very boring by end of week. Where shall we start for main evening meal, you have to decide at breakfast, starter an enormous plate of pasta, or soup, which must say was the best part of the meal, then a plate of one slice of meat, vegetable that was unrecognisable, should have been cauliflower florets and mash potatoes, very very poor looks as though prepared earlier and then reheated, omelette not cooked enough so runny inside, duck, 2 tiny not evens thighs, burnt drum sticks. Should have been with orange but was served with a burnt round of orange, could not eat it. Desert almond cake, ice cream or mixed fruit, erm lovely, mixed fruit given a bowl of fruit, not peeled, not sliced just a bowl of fruit. We asked for vanilla ice cream, no no have, a hotel running out of vanilla icecream, unacceptable. No cup of coffee either. We had to therefore eat out as very hungry, restaurant next door lovely food, well prepared, beer cold, in our hotel beer was warm, why were they not put into a fridge who wants warm beer!!!! The rooms were very clean, excellent cleaners, clean towels daily and bed linen no complaints on that front. Plus they were happy, so hot, cleaning rooms but always a smile worth 5€ to say thank you. The receptionists were not very good apart from one, don't know his name very smart, curly hair, wearing smart blue linen shirt, very helpful, others couldn't be bothered, hardly spoke or understood English, asked where places were or how to get to get there didn't know. Receptionists are the front of the hotel should be well informed about the area, the hotel, activities, anything that a guest wanted to know, also very poor. We spoke to others guests they all complained about the food, lucky for us we could afford to eat out and pay for the taxis but when you have only a certain amount of spare money to spend are stuck and have to grin and bear it. We can remember those days when our son was young we had enough money to pay for holiday and a certain amount to spend each day, thankfully now pensioners we are spending our sons inheritance, he can have what is left if any, only joking son. Newmarket holidays if I were your company I would not use this hotel find another one much nearer to the square, bus station and train station, where it is situated is to far out to be able to go places and walk some where nice after a evening meal. Others complained about where hotel was situated to, the constant bibbing of horns, trying to park, many near escapes of a bad accident. Think that is all, very sorry to have to write this bad account of our holiday but felt had to warn others, either young families with pushchairs, or people who cannot walk very far, to be told takes only 10 mins to walk to Sorrento must have been "Mo" he would have even raced up the hill also. We are now going to complain to Newmarket holidays and hopefully get some money back for the taxi fares and going out eat, all unexpected fees. 3 nights taxi there and back 90€ evening meal next door 42€ and ate out in a lovely restaurant overlooking beach where you arrive from ferry, beautiful setting and food. 45€ plus another one cannot remember name of it. Hotel Rivarge we were told was very good and central to go to other places. Collapse

The longer I stayed there the more I loved it. It's a three star hotel and I'd call it a 3 star plus. No kettle in room so take one with you. We had a fridge but that sounds like luck of the draw. Our room was lovely, clean and comfortable. We went for a balcony but if we'd booked earlier I'd have liked to have upgraded to a sea view. I wasn't expecting too much from the half board food but was really impressed. There was only three choices for each coarse but I always found something I liked. There was always a soup starter and two other choices. The main always had omelet or two choices one of which was usually a fish dish. Sweet was a fruit bowl, literally! Or ice cream or one varied choice. It was varied from day to day. Breakfast was a little more than normal continental breakfasts. Wednesday night we had a gala evening and it was great. Drinks were very reasonably priced. The house red wine at the table was €10+€1 service and it was lovely. Lunch/bar menu was reasonable too but we ate out most of the time. It is a bit of a hike to town down a narrow road, some without path but it's really part of the charm. The walk back was uphill so get a bus, it's only cheap €1.50pp The staff were really attentive and charming. Some of the older waiters had so much character but they were all so lovely. The pool was nice and ample. Plenty of sunbeds. Yes, I was so happy there Collapse

A few of us stayed here to attend our friends wedding. Our opinions varied. we had a first floor room at the back of the hotel. Our balcony was massive and the room was also a good size. Breakfast was fine and would set you up for the day. Dinner was a bit hit and miss to be fair. starters were always large and mostly nice but the mains weren't good. we found ourselves eating out as often as our budget allowed. All the staff were friendly but have to shout out to the young bar man and the night porter. Hotel is up the hill from the centre of town. It took us 20 minutes brisk walking to get up. we would stay here again but definitely only on a B&B basis. Collapse
