We stayed at the Hotel Metropole for just 1 night, but found it very nice for a longer stay. The hotel is not modern, but it is clean and has very good facilities and is a close walk to the center of Sorrento. There is free parking, a beautiful pool area and lush grounds to enjoy. You can walk right down to the water and enjoy the lounge chairs. Breakfast was above average with a good selection with very good service. Collapse

My wife and I stayed here for a week mid October 2016. As many have said this hotel is situated on an incline and the traffic is busy, as it is everywhere. At first daunting to walk on the pave-less road. It is just a short distance and even though I am disabled managed to walk back and fore to the town. The bus system is quite complicated as there are a few different companies each requiring the correct prepaid bus ticket. These we purchased at the railway terminus and at such an extremely reasonable price, we always bought a few to carry in our pockets and made use of them as required. We took a local bus to the Amalfi Coast and the open top bus tour, great fun. We also took the train to Pompeii only cost about 3 euros. Similarly the trip to Capri by the ferry. No booking just headed off and caught the ferry at the harbour. As you probably have gathered we like to organise our own trips without bothering the tour operators. The hotel itself was as we expected, quaint, organised and homely. Grub as expected and had no complaints. We would happily return. Collapse

We absolutely loved this holiday. The hotel was typically Italian; tiled rooms, dark furniture and very continental. The breakfast buffet with its huge selection and yummy, buttery scrambled eggs was very delicious. Wonderful coffee too. The evening menu was a quite ordinary however, and after two meals, we chose to eat in other restaurants.....the one next door was lovely!!! We found everything extremely clean and the staff worked hard. The view of Vesuvius from our hotel window was breath-taking.....as was some of the Italian driving!!!! Lots of manoeuvres and horn blowing.....very entertaining! Collapse

We stayed here when our travel agent changed our original accommodation. It is a 15-20 minute windy bus ride into Sorrento from this hotel. You can get very cheap bus tickets from the reception for under two euros. You have to stand on the road and wait for the bus outside the hotel but no bus or other vehicle will run you over. Even though it feels like they might. The hotel is very clean. It's very old fashioned in its look but spacious. The pool is great. There is a waiter pool side who takes your order. He looks like Jason Schwartzman in the Grand Budapest Hotel. The really annoying thing about this hotel is that you have to wait until 7pm for dinner. Dinner choices are very cheap but not gourmet. Very simple meals but nothing to write home about. Breakfast spread is great and lovely to sit out on the balcony looking out over the water for breakfast. You can see Vesuvius from your hotel balcony if you get a room that faces the ocean. Pretty spectacular. The wi fi is terrible during daylight hours. During 1-5am the wifi was great. You can get the hotel to organise tours for you and a bus will come and pick you up. Take nausea tablets before leaving for day trips as everything is so windy and takes so long to get to. Where possible get boats or air conditioned coaches directly to your location and avoid the cheaper packed buses. During the height of July Summer you may not get a seat even if you are pregnant and with a toddler. There is a car park space even for huge vans at the hotel. The hotel will move the cars around for you if you don't feel confident. The location of this hotel is not great. If I would choose again I would go for a hotel directly in Sorrento to avoid one more bus ride. All the cars in Sorrento have scratches on them. All of them so make sure you take out full insurance if you brave driving. We had to pay 10 euro a night for a portacot we didn't use for our daughter. The hotel staff refused to refund this charge. It was a bit of a sour end to our stay. But we were warned about this staying in hotels in Italy. But this was the only hotel where we experienced customer service like this. Collapse
