I stay every other week and normally all is ok and I get my preferred room that I request on my booking. The last 2 stays have seen someone I don't recognise check me in and not to my preferred room. I have also had to ask for my complementary drinks voucher as a platinum card holder. On the last stay I asked if any upgraded rooms were available and I was told no. This wasn't a confident no so i went to my room and checked online only to find exec rooms were available. I did highlight this to the hotel but I was told the online booking wasn't real time which I find incredulous. Collapse

The bar wasn't as expensive as I was expecting, 3 sambucas for 6 quid ain't to bad. George Michael tribute was good too, got our grooves going . All in all a good experience, better than I s expecting. Finally big shout out to the women working in Carter and Fitch for giving me a lush cocktail at the end of the night and all the friendly staff for making it a pleasant experience. Cheers Merry Xmas guys. Collapse

Our good deal on a one night stay in an ‘executive room’ was anything but executive!! After a shopping day in the Metrocentre we wanted to stay somewhere local and having stayed here many years ago my expectations were high. I cannot tell you what a disappointment this hotel turned out to be!! The check in time was 2pm but we didn’t arrive until 7ish last night. Check in area was nice, clean with a little seating area and Christmas tree etc so looked nice enough. The lady on reception was very pleasant but tried to book us breakfast even though it was in with our booking. We had to get our email confirmation to prove this as it ‘wasn’t updated on the system’. Despite this it was confirmed eventually and we were given our room key. Our room (131) is an ‘executive room with four poster bed and jacuzzi spa bath’ and unfortunately sounds much more impressive than it actually was! On opening the door the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke was sickening. This hotel advertises non smoking rooms so this was the last thing we expected. The smell was unbearable. We sprayed perfume and deodorant but it has permeated all carpet, bed linen etc so was horrendous and couldn’t just be masked! I rang to reception to hear that there wasn’t another room to move us to so they would ask the cleaner to come and give the room a once over! Having no other option for the night I had to accept this but the smell was overbearing and caught in the back of my throat it was so thick in the air of the room! Reception rang back to ask that we go up and collect two drinks vouchers to enjoy in the bar while the cleaner sorted the room. When we collected these we were told it wouldn’t be long and they would ring to tell us when it was sorted. Having waited over 40 minutes in the bar (and spent our own money on more drinks rather than just sit there) we asked the staff to find out if it was sorted. She came back and said the room was ready so we went back over to the main building and through to our room at the other side of the hotel. Opening the door I could tell nothing had been done at all. It still stunk and was still dirty so not sure who the cleaners are but they need to be looked at considering that should have been twice the room was cleaned!! As we knew there was no other option we had to open the patio doors (in the freezing weather last night) to try and air out the room and spray perfume etc to mask the smell. As we hadn’t unpacked or anything at this point we did a full inspection of the room and to be honest if we had another option we would have left immediately! The whole room was filthy! There were cobwebs in the corner complete with a huge spider!! Stained carpets, Dirt and dust everywhere and hairs in the bath!! This is the only room I’ve ever stayed in where I felt unclean sitting in it. It’s a very spacious room but so outdated, old and dirty that it is difficult to think of any positives. Even the king size bed must have been two pushed together because there was a clear height difference between both sides so felt like rolling downhill when turning over. (I didn’t confirm this as if I had to inspect the mattress I would have probably ended up sleeping in the car considering the state of the room !!) We decided just to make the most of it and cleaned the bath ourselves to have a shower. The bathroom is a good size and the shower was powerful, also the water was really hot so this was a positive I suppose. We ordered room service breakfast for the next morning and the selection of choices were extensive. Ordered tea for me and coffee for my husband, cereal for me and pastries for him and then cooked breakfast for both. We rang in the morning to ask for it earlier so we could leave sooner but it actually came later than originally booked for and the pastries and toast were burnt! The tea was cold and milk was only one little sachet each!! We ended up using the milk provided for cereal instead and left the bowl of cornflakes. Instead of coming with silver covers to keep the food warm as we have had many times in other hotels, the plates were wrapped with cling film instead and must have been standing a while so all the food was cold - but wet from condensation! We left most of it and only the sausage was nice of it all. Overall I’m extremely disappointed with this hotel and would never stay again or recommend to anyone ever! If this is the sort of room they market as executive then I would hate to see the standard rooms! Don’t waste your money!!! I have photos and will try and upload these. Collapse

So this hotel is currently having its bedrooms renovated. I was lucky enough to have one of the new rooms, my colleagues didn’t. There is a huge difference so try and request one of the refurbished rooms if you can. Bedroom spot on. Reception spot on. We arrived late on a Sunday evening and had to rush over to the bar/restaurant before it shut. The receptionist rang over to tell them we were on our way. Staff very friendly and food excellent. As we were last in we were also last out. It wasn’t late but it meant that all of the staff bar one, Oliver H, had left. Now Oliver has to win employee of the month or even year as far as we were concerned. He was polite, friendly and very professional. Although we were the last there he didn’t make us feel we had to leave. We were laughing and joking with him about the rooms and this is how good he was; he even apologised for my colleagues not having one of the new rooms. He was only working on the bar and had no need to apologise at all. Note to management- don’t let this boy go! Keep him, train him up and let him run the hotel. I stay in numerous hotels and it’s always the staff that can make (or ruin) a hotel- you have someone special here. He made us feel like friends (in minutes) not guests and somebody with that ability is worth their weight in gold. Have to say breakfast was only ok. The toast machine was awful and there was not much taste to the scrambled eggs. Get Oliver to work his magic on it lol Would I stay here again? - you bet. Would I recommend the hotel? - without a doubt I did have photos of the room but for some reason I can’t upload them. Believe me though it was a very nice room indeed Collapse
