Came here for one night. Room was very comfortable with a kettle etc, plus one of those espresso machines. Room was quiet, had a comfy bed. Bathroom had separate bath and shower, with complimentary shampoo etc. WiFi was free and superspeed. Bar area was relaxing. Restaurant menu looked good, but I didn't eat there. The gym and swimming pool were great. Gym had technogym equipment. Breakfast was fine. As an Accor gold member, I got a free drink voucher. Room rate was a great price, booked through the Accor website. Staff were very friendly. Hotel is on lovely grounds in the country away from it all a bit. Definitely recommend the hotel! Collapse

Booked last minute with a good deal through booking.com; the reason for the reasonable price became clear as the night wore on. Arrived to find the hotel hosting what appeared to be a wedding and the car park and overflow were full. Managed to squeeze the car in beside a rubbish skip and crossed our fingers. Check in was fast and pleasant and on entering our room we were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was considering other reviews. Getting ready to go out for the evening we found that the bathroom door was stuck shut..... and we were both on the inside. We laughed at first but after almost 15 minutes of twisting the very loose handle without any success I was starting to think we would be stuck there all night. Eventually after a lot of pulling and manipulation of the handle, the door finally opened. We reported it to reception on our way out and asked to have mended for when we got back. This wasn't possible as the receptionist said maintenance had left but housekeeping would take a look. No alternative room was offered and nothing further was done about the bathroom door handle. Returned to the hotel after eating locally to find the wedding celebrations spilling out into reception. We returned to our room to relax. Unfortunately instead we spent the next 2 hours listening to a group of young children screaming and thundering up and down the corridor outside the room. They were asked to stop but it continued until 9.30pm. Just as we were starting to relax the wedding guests returned to their rooms... the next few hours were filled with screaming drunken women slamming doors and yelling to a woman called Carly to get more champagne. Finally when they (I'm guessing) passed out, the occupants upstairs returned and took over the entertainment. I counted the number of times she vomited and he used the toilet. We finally dropped off at 1am to be woken again at 5.30 by another neighbour coughing and grunting. We checked out at 9.45am even though we didn't have to leave til noon, just couldn't stand it any longer. So in summary... not a bad hotel by Mercure standards but woefully let down by the lack of control of unruly guests which ruined the stay for others. Collapse

We’ll never been to this hotel before the drive in seemed promising. The reception area was small and even with this I was seen straight away room check in reasonable swift. The room was small good job I didn’t bring the cat! The radiator was turned down and the coolness made the bedding seem damp so I turned up the heating to max. Can’t say anything about the food in the evening as I was cabin feverish I headed for the local inn (mistake big mistake) I was therefore hungry for a bacon sandwich prior to departing with a tea £10 a bit steep! Overall not bad but then again not good. Collapse

Braved it down for our spa weekend at the tail end of the Beast from the East. Arrived early with my 2 sisters at 12.30 and met by a lovely receptionist. We were able to check-in straight away which was fantastic. The hotel was lovely. Traditional, very clean with warm rooms. Our room was an executive room with 3 singles as part of our package deal (lovely spacious room - firm beds ). All the staff in the hotel we met were professional and courteous. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, but the 3 course evening meal was excellent. It bordered on fine dining. Lovely ambiance in the restaurant with relaxing music in the background. White linen of course is always lovely. The wait/waitress service was excellent for very young staff. Clearly well trained. Our waiter for our first night was Tom and he was very attentive with excellent social skills. Our spa package was excellent. I had a 1pm facial and scalp massage. I think my therapist was called Sarah ( petite woman with dark hair ). Loved my treatment and she was excellent. Clean and beautiful decor to room. Smelt amazing and lovely soothing music during my treatment. The therapists worked extremely hard that Saturday as they were extremely short staffed. I’m presuming due to the snow. Even though they were busy, I never felt rushed. I would definitely book there again. The only downside to our stay was the pool area. Not relaxing at all with large leisure centre style windows. Children were allowed in which I did know but I didn’t realise how near there were to the loungers. Children been children, played and splashed around. So as well as getting splashed, we also had their noise. The steam room was one of the most powerful steam rooms I’ve been in. It was let down however by the dirty grout on the seating area. The sauna was lovely. Missed having no jacuzzi. Overall I would definitely book here again but only on a deal. I would pay full price if the pool area matched up to the treatment therapist area and hotel. Collapse

Booked a night here for my wife and I. The check in was prompt, the room was good all be it the walls were a little thin, but not a major issue. We used the pool, sauna and steam room which were clean. We did not have dinner as we went to a local pub/ restaurant which was only a 5 minute walk. We did however have breakfast which was lovely. We will go back again for sure. Collapse
