My friend Jan and I decided to treat ourselves to a spa weekend before joining our friend Jim at his 50th birthday celebration. Firstly, I have to say that the staff, food and facilities are excellent. However, for what we paid, I wasn't impressed with the room (top floor, one tiny window, couldn't turn off the shower, bathroom door jammed, and a mass of electrical wires above our hanging space). The decor in the part of the hotel we stayed in was definitely in need of freshening up. A little on the expensive side, bearing in mind accommodation provided. Collapse

A group of 21 with most of us staying overnight. Met for drinks in the bar area mid afternoon. The place seemed to be deserted. There was a girl occasionally behind the bar but I think she was helping elsewhere. She was great and really helpful as were all the staff and it's not their fault but management should take note. Pumps for beers were not working and at £14.00 for a glass of wine, not good. The party was a themed night "Gatsby" and everyone made a real effort. The reception was 7pm so the hotel knew there would be several people at the bar but yet again hardly any staff. The food was ok but it arrived so late (mains 10.30 pm and dessert well after the disco was in full throttle.) I think by this stage anything would have tasted ok. Room was ok (15) apart from hard pillows and a radiator that "clunked" very loudly throughout the night. What surprises me is that the bookings for the night were well in advance so they knew how many people would be attending, why then were the staff so lacking. Such a shame as it's unlikely we would return. Collapse

Took 32 people to the murcure for our Christmas party. It was very well organised. Food was served hot. Tables looked lovely. There was a great atmosphere and the staff were great. Would definitely go again next year.

We recently visited with work colleagues for our works Christmas party. We had a great night. Staff were good and the disco had everyone up dancing. I had the goats cheese salad as a starter. I never expect food produced for many to be brilliant but I was quite disappointed with the starter. It was small with crumbs of goats cheese. My roast turkey main was tasty, particularly the roast potatoes but again it was on the small side. The chocolate tart was good. Overall it was a great night. Food could have been better. Collapse

I recently attended an event here but prior to this I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights as a couples get away. Where do I begin, from first walking through the main entrance I was greeted by multiple smiling faces and a charmingly decorated reception area, our room was spacious and reasonable for the amount we payed but would of liked some newer/up to date furnishings. After checking in and being told we could use the health spa for FREE! We headed straight over to check it out, it was a minuscule walk from the reception area and filled with an equally smiling receptionist who explained the layout. After using the pool we decided to relax in the bar where we were greeted by a large number of options, with draught, bottles, wine and cocktails on offer we were spoiled for choice, we decided to take full advantage of the cocktail offer that ran from 5pm, the cocktails were made in a very efficient manner and were well presented, the bar man who’s name I didn’t catch was lovely to talk to and very knowledgable about the local area and places to go. We didn’t eat our first night in the hotel but we did the second night, we had a lovely 3 course meal thanks to Danni the waitress who insisted we must try the deserts, I chose the baileys hot chocolate due to being rather full from my previous 2 courses however it was expertly made and a very nice change to the traditional baileys coffee. Breakfast was also a nice hearty meal, we were well looked after and offered tea and coffee as soon as we sat down by a lovely lady called Sue, who took our order quickly and chatted with us, informing us about the local area some more. Over all this hotel was an amazing get away from the busy city hotels most people are used too, it was quiet and charming, some people may say the decor is old but it’s part of the buildings character, there’s an information pack on the reception area desk that fills you in on the interesting history of the building. Thanks to everyone for making our stay so nice! Collapse

I stayed at the Mercure Bewdley, Kidderminster for a two night stay on the 27 and 28 October 2017. On arrival, the hotel looks impressive – long sweeping drive and lovely fountain outside the front door. There was plenty of room in the car park. On entering the hotel, the reception was unmanned. I waited for someone to assist but the hotel was deserted apart from wedding guests. Eventually, someone came to help and I went to my room which was on the ground floor overlooking the fountain. The room was a decent size but very tired looking. It had standard features… a TV, a kettle, couple of chairs and a bathroom. The bathroom was very dated and quite uninviting. When I came back in the evening, I went to the bar for a drink. The bar was open but there was no one serving. After a few minutes I went out to the reception area and when a member of staff passed I asked where the barman was and was told to go back and wait as the barman would come back. He did – and I ordered a drink. A glass of pinot grigio was £8.50 – I pay less in London! Breakfast the next day was self-service. You had to stand and wait for a waitress to wave you into the half full dining room. Self-service buffet breakfasts are fine, but not usually served this way in four star hotels. The advantage with buffet style is that you can serve yourself to the food that you like – unfortunately they didn’t cater for vegetarians so I had to request vegetarian sausages. When they arrived, the rest of the food was cold! The toaster was the usual “burnt to a crisp” or “vaguely brown” option that you get in budget hotels. Finding decaff coffee and refills was a challenge and the glasses for orange juice must have held two eggcups full. Disappointing. The evening event I attended was catered for my the hotel. The food quality was poor and variety was shocking. Again, as a vegetarian there was little I could eat. Having paid £20 for the food, it was overpriced and lacked the excitement the assortment and selection that you might reasonably expect for the money. The wine – well it was £24 a bottle! Finally – checkout on the Sunday. I tried to check out but the system kept crashing. They took the money from the card I presented when I booked in with no way to check it (although they did email me the receipt). Overall – I would say it is a tired hotel in need of an update. The décor is shabby in places. However, the lack of staff interest and the price of drinks was the breaker. I’m happy to pay more for helpful staff and good service but this was not what was offered. I would not recommend this hotel to others. ( Hotel – pls note the reservation was made in my maiden name and the bill paid by my married name. Happy to provide proof of actual stay if you require it. ) Collapse
