The Martin Relais Hotel used to be four separate merchants houses that have been converted to a hotel. They have managed to create a comfortable hotel whilst retaining period features and keeping the character of the original buildings. We paid extra for a canal view room and the view was lovely. Good location, fairly close to the main square and restaurants without the noise of being in the thick of it. Breakfast was of a high quality but very limited cooked breakfast but lots of continental style. Staff all exceptionally helpful and polite. Would definitely return to this hotel. Collapse

Each room seems to be different in this beautiful and well refurbished hotel, next to one of the canals in Brugge. We got a big room at the top floor with the wooden roof beams towering above us and the views over the irregular skyline of old Brugge's all tiled roofs outside our window. The service was very friendly and fast. They have a great bar/lounge, very quiet and peaceful when we visited it, where you can sit and enjoy the views and something warm to drink. Something not so good? Can not think of anything. Collapse

Lovely old hotel situated very close to the centre of town but very quiet and tranquil. We had the family room which was large and spacious. Fantastic bathroom with huge shower and lots of hot water. We visited in the winter but the hotel was warm and cosy. The building is old and quirky with twisting staircases and many antiques. The staff were very helpful. There is a small bar area that is nice to sit in during the evening. We didn't have breakfast preferring to eat out, but it looked good. There are several breakfast places less than 50m away. It was €9 in a taxi from the station, or its about 30 mins walk. Highly recommend. Collapse

The hotel lies a very short distance out of the main centre of Bruges but that is in itself no bad thing; if you value a quieter position away from the tourist hot spots then this is ideal; the main square is a short (3 minute?) walk away but is still readily accessible. As are the wealth of other walks that you must do in this wonderfully preserved place. The hotel itself is homely but in a grand sort of way; furnished and appointed in many period pieces it feels like stepping back in time and has been carefully preserved in the way it is laid out to maintain that feeling. Our room was at the back of the hotel (very peaceful indeed) and, whilst on the less grand size, was perfectly adequate for our needs with a really wonderful walk in shower to take the aches and pains off after walking all day on the cobbled streets! Breakfast was a very decent buffet with as much coffee and typical Belgian fare on offer together with the more British focused cooked items as well. It doesn't have a restaurant on site but that is no big deal - Bruges has these a-plenty and there is almost every conceivable cuisine on hand within a reasonable walk if needed. There is a Belgian bar and restaurant just round the corner near the main square which is highly recommended but book ahead! The staff were exactly the right balance of being attentive but also unobtrusive, and were very knowledgeable about the sights and routes to some of the more unusual and less seen parts of Bruges. Nothing was too much trouble for them and for such a young team this was, perhaps, one of the biggest surprises there. Overall, after staying at a number of this Groups hotels (Leuven; Brussels and Geneval) this one lived up to the other's high standards and can be readily recommended. Collapse

This Hotel is set in historic buildings. Most Original elements can still be identified and that is what makes this hotel so special. The hotel is quiet with very friendly, professional and helpfull staff that makes the experience classic typical Belgian. The original wooden stairs squeak, the beams you see in the breakfast room ceiling are original, the lighting of the rooms is tuned for cozyness and the decoration of the rooms is timeless (maybe dated) with original antique elements. There are replicas of famous paintings, Original painted portraits and photos since the birth of photography. This adds to the timeless experience, this hotel could have looked like this 20 years ago. This being said, the hotel is in the ventre of Bruges, it is nice and clean, has all modern necessities, the rooms are pleasant and the breakfast is quite good. If you expect opulent luxury, fully airconditioned rooms, LED mood lighting and other bells and whistles, you will not find it. This hotel is eco friendly, true to the heritage of the building and Belgian hotel tradition. I loved it. If there is an upgrade available, take it, some rooms are surprisingly large. Collapse

We stayed in a family room, which didn't quite suit us, but the staff were really helpful moving us to a different room. The hotel is 5 mins walk from the town centre which was great. The only comment I would make about something to improve is changing the limit of 2 devices attached to the hotel wifi. Not enough for a family of four these days! Collapse
