I debated between 4 and 5 stars (4.5?). We had a group of 6 using two rooms. Location is great for a lot of normal "tourist" stuff, and Bryant Park a couple of blocks away during Christmas was really nice. Easy access to subway. Chick-fil-A and Dunkin' Donuts right on the street if you just need to grab something easy to eat. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Rooms were very nice. They are small, but you should expect that in NY. No problem for 2, but with 3 and using the pull-out couch, it was crowded - but we didn't go to NY to sit in room very much! The only drawback was what seemed to be paper thin walls. Both rooms, on separate floors, had problems at times with hearing a lot of noise from other rooms. But all in all, a great visit. Collapse

We've been Marriott members forever and as most Marriott members know - it can be good and at other time very disappointing. Pulse is a new Marriott concept - and this was our first stay at a Pulse property. We were here with two other couples for a few days. The location is really great. Very close to 5th, 6th and broadway. Very close to empire state building with nice views from the rooftop bar. Service was very friendly, but seemed understaffed and unprepared at times. There were special events in the evening at the rooftop bar that made it pretty inaccessible to the guests. There is a small bistro restaurant but the service ranged from good to awful for breakfast - and to open all day. The rooms were small (expected for NYC - but not family friendly) but the surprising part was how the noise carried from one room to the next. The parties on the lower floors had trouble warming up their rooms and with street noise. Collapse
First visit here - will be back!

December 3: My first stay at this hotel - a unique twist on the very popular resort Vacation Clubs. Obviously, there is not a pool - this is NYC and guess what you experience instead: the Rooftop Bar!! Oh yes, this is incredible with fantastic views and very talented bartenders. I may just return for one of their drinks. Fantastic location - walked to the hotel from Penn Station. Walked to Rock Center for my Teuscher's addiction and battled the crowds looking at the gorgeous tree and the lights. Hospitality is fantastic here - everyone was so gracious and welcoming. I was able to have breakfast on my departure day. Seriously, this frittata was outrageous - I couldn't even finish it. My bartender/server Carlos, told me that their Executive Chef Kelvin Fernandez, was the recent winner of the People's Choice: Best Savory Dish at an annual awards. So I googled it and there was the entire story - their Executive Chef won this award at the annual Forbes 30 under 30 Summit Food Festival - he's a CIA grad, French trained, runner up on Food Network's "Chopped" and more. Food chops!! worth the visit to eat his food! My room was recently renovated and the colors/decor is sleek and contemporary. Excellent soap & lotions too! I will definitely return and the room rate was very very reasonable! Note: Not sure what some Yelp reviewers experienced but they are just plain mean and should just stay home. Collapse
Good location, small hotel, can use Marriott Destination points to secure

So we are Chairman's club members with Marriott. We have been to most all the NYC properties so have something to compare to. As Marriott timeshare owners and in the destinations program this is the only property you can use points to secure a room. For us we had points which we knew we weren't going to use by end of year so rather than lose them stayed a night at the pulse. The staff was attentive and nice, a plus. The room, clean and efficient, for NYC standard with Marriott properties. So price point on points was so so, for sure my guess is you can work the system better than I did if in advance more. Overall a great way for timeshare folks who want to go to a city experience without paying the big costs for a hotel should go this route. As they claim since a vacationclub entity they do not provide free breakfast which is the case for almost every other Marriott property in the city to Chairman club members so a negative for us for sure. All in all, if right for you go to it, nothing negative here. Collapse

Seriously, the people at this hotel could not do enough to make our stay an enjoyable and personal experience. How many hotels greet you by name when you arrive back after a days' sightseeing? Nothing was too much trouble from booking the car back to the airport to finding a UK to Us plug adaptor for some obscure piece of tech' lurking in my son's kit bag, they just wanted to help. The rooms street side all had a great view of the Empire State building and the roof top bar is a great place to spend some time relaxing after taking in the sights. The rooms were well equipped, comfortable and contemporary. We stay here again in a heart beat. For the Marriott Vacation club readers be aware the rooms are not normal vacation club level in terms of size, but who cares right. you came to New York to sample the energy, not sit in your hotel room and watch the TV. 5th Avenue is less than 1 minute from the lobby, masses of places to eat within ten minutes including Broadway and Time Square. Only issue with such a positive review is that you all now book this venue and limit my chances of going back again soon. Book it now. Collapse
