Not often do I get the distinct impression that a hotel is well run ie to its maximum potential. That is the case here at the Riviera Marriott, Monaco. From the moment we arrived the front office staff were focused and genuine in their welcome. Efficient and yet gave us maps and the information we needed. Thanks to Julie who despite being very young is extremely effective. The staff in the restaurant were just as efficient and the 3 meals we had were better than we expected! Thank you Stefan(?) The cleaning staff did an excellent job each day. We used the hotel's free shuttle service on a few occasions and then caught #4 or #6 bus back @ 2.50€ pp. The hotel is an old'ish building but well maintained and the WiFi worked very well. I can only think of two areas that could be improved on: 1) the internal bathroom is pitch dark at night, so a small night light would be a big help. 2). The tables, chairs and furnishings in both the restaurant and bar are dark and dull. I must say that the staff generally were excellent and whoever is doing the recruiting should be congratulated!! Highly recommended. Collapse
Very good hotel, couple of little niggles, but would return.

The location is good, you have Monaco on the doorstep quite literally, and the hotel is priced a little lower than 4 star hotels in Monaco. Heliport is around the corner and a sea view room will give you a spectacular view. The staff are great, every staff member I spoke to spoke perfect English. The rooms could do with a little more attention to detail. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is in no way a 3 star, however for a 4 star hotel there are things that need improvement. I have worked in the property maintenance industry for a few years at this stage, and have an extremely eagle eye for 'the little things' The best recommendation I could give to the hotel would be to implement a maintenance schedule that is more rigorous than the current one, and use the room as a customer would. From the doorway the bathroom looks very good, but if you sit in the bath you notice things which can only be seen from the bath. The furniture is all good quality, however the carpets need replacing. Throughout the halls and in the rooms the carpets are dated. They are not dirty, they are infact very clean, it's just the design and the lack of pile under your foot which makes it obvious that they have been there for sometime. I am assuming the rooms have been renovated in the not too distant past, but the carpets have been overlooked. The little little things like mildew around the bath, and the tired bath handles are not acceptable for a 4 star hotel, and easily rectified for very little cost per room. Small things annoy me, like only having one light switch by the bed, so either all of the lights are on. Or all of the lights are off. If I wish to switch off one or two lights but leave some background lighting on whilst in bed, I need to get up and swtich each off individually. On the plus side, this hotel caters for British nationals very very well. I didn't pack an adapter for european plug sockets, and was pleased to see a UK plug socket on the wall. Only one, all the rest were two pin. But that was still a lifesaver. The food in the restaurant is very good, although expect to pay £100+ for two people to eat dinner and hae a glass of wine. Prices in the bar are as expected for the area. Spirits are on average €10 a shot. Add €5 for a mixer, though if you are on a budget there is a supermarket a 5 minute walk away where you can buy a bottle of good Brandy for €15. Another thing which wound me up was the lack of bar service after midnight during the week. I wanted a coffee but the night porter was unable to serve me a Latte at half past midnight. I asked for a few sachets of coffee to take to my room only to be informed that he could not provide me with any coffee but would get housekeeping to drop me some coffee sachets up to my room in the morning. Not much good when you want a coffee 'now'. In all honesty though this place is good, and I will return. It's not a budget hotel, there are cheaper hotels in the area but if you're heading to Monaco, it's worth paying the little extra to stay here, whilst not breaking the bank. The sea view rooms have a magnificent view, you wake up every morning to amazing sunshine pouring through the French doors of the balcony. One evening I bumped in to Duncan Bannatyne in the lift and had a little chat, so you never know who you might meet. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to various parts of Monaco which is extremely handy, I only used it upon checkout, but the concierge dropped me off to the train station. Another bonus. Collapse

Great guest services team, very helpful. Clean and tidy rooms. Located on the French borders of the Monaco, so transportation or a long walk required to the main city centre. Good views of the French Riviera as the hotel is located on a port. Tasty food and prompt room service. The room comes equipped with iron facilities. I stayed in a lovely double room with balcony, plenty of good light. There's a gym, pool, pool side lounge area and bar for evenings too. I would certainly recommend you stay here. Very good mixture of guests from all around the world. Collapse
