The room was pretty decent, but not great. The hotel itself was difficult to get around as it is set up on a circle and directions/signs are not well marked. The room service guy was really nice and parking was okay at $35/night, bu tit took at least 20 minutes to get my car every day. I think the parking was pretty far away. Common areas also confusing as you enter on the first floor, check in on the 3rd floor and then need to take either the high-rise or low-rise elevators. Collapse

Had a recent 3 night stay, rooms were ok, fairly standard, few more stains on the carpet than I'd like and the odd little visitor (see photos). Service very good all round, desk staff very helpful and pleasant, great guy waiting on in the restaurant, food in the bar/restaurant good and well priced. Breakfast also very good if a little pricey. The underground maze took some navigating and a little unfinished feeling with all the bare concrete. Overall decent enough, wouldn't rush back but wouldn't shy away either. Collapse

We stayed here for a wedding. The poor service started with the reservation. The initial phone call was 1 month prior to the wedding- for some reason they couldn't book us with the wedding block so I was assured the "local" marriot would call me the next day (Monday) to straighten it out. I ended up calling the local number Tuesday to follow up because I hadn't gotten a call. Both times that I called and left a message, no one called me back. Wednesday I was finally patched through to someone in marketing (Lord only knows why Marketing) and while the young lady couldn't switch our reservation, she did assure me that rooms were left in the wedding block. I was able to connect to the website provided by the bride & groom and make a 2nd reservation and cancel the 1st one. I waited another day and called to verify the reservation was complete and to request an early check in (since I would be arriving before 3pm). The women was rude & unfriendly but put my early check in on the list. Upon arrival, the construction around the hotel made the GPS directions useless. Their signage to find the Marriot parking was confusing so I ended up using *valet (Thank goodness- they were the BEST service and kindest individuals we dealt with all weekend!). The check in staff were moderately kind and handed me a gift bag which was intended for wedding guests. I was asked if I wanted to switch to a King sized bed room- I said sure. Note to future travelers: the "King size bed" is really a Queen plus. I didn't really care but wanted to note this. So the ELEVATORS. I get that you have to swipe your room key to get to guest rooms, only, their "swipe" pads were touch pads and they were TERRIBLE. After trying 2 different elevators, getting the card "re-keyed" back at the front desk and trying a 3rd elevator, I finally got the card to read. (Note: there are specified elevators for upper floors and lower floors, yes, I was in the correct elevator for my floor). So, I got to my room and dropped my bags....only to find out the gift bag I was handed was intended for the BRIDE & GROOM not a guest of the wedding! So, I called down to let them know of the mistake but the woman on the phone debated if I understood who the bag was for....I said, "yes it says Bride & Groom". She reluctantly agreed to send someone up to take the bag back to check in. An hour later (no hurry to fix the problem apparently) a young lady showed up and took the bag with no apology. When the time came to take the shuttle to the wedding, I called down to check the times for the shuttle (it was 4:40pm). I was told "4:30 and 5:15". Ok...so the only shuttle left is at 5:15. Well, 5:45 rolls around (after the hotel staff told us, "we don't deal with the timing of the shuttles"....really? Then how did someone know that it was expected to leave at 5:15?) and then we finally were on our way. These experiences made our visit to this Marriot our 1st and last. Oh, another minor annoyance- the coffee shops and convenience stores in The Renaissance Center run on M-F business hours so don't count on getting anything on a weekend stay. Collapse

This Marriott is not the most cozy hotel I have been to.... It's biggg, difficult to find your way, architecture looks like the 70's with lots of concrete. It's a real conference hotel that can accommodate 1500 guests . However the rooms are comfortable and service very friendly. Nice views on the river. Best place is the restaurant on first floor. Cool interior. Nice food and local draft beers. Collapse

Went on vacation to Detroit and Canada for about a total of six days and after visiting a lot of the local sites. Motown, Greek town, two base ball games and the casinos. Went to Canada and visited the casino, park and even cooked out on river front over there. The sky line was beautiful from both sides of the river. When out to Bell Islse state park and walked two mornings. Also did some shopping at local mall and my favorite small store Hats Galores and Assessories on Graiot Blvd. Night life was fun but must be careful as with any big city. Did not get to play any golf this time but we are going back in 2017 and thats first on the list. They have a lot of wonderful golf courses in the are we are told. Well the five nioghts and six days were fun with and without relatives.By the way Hotel was a great place to stay. Had everything one could want right there. My cousin said it was as big as the small town we came from. Cowpens, SC. pop. 2,000 J.O'Neal Collapse
